Turning 40 seems to be a big deal... at least for some people. I am about to turn 40. Yep, the truth is out. I'm not a teeny bopper, I'm not a 20-something or even a 30 something anymore. FOUR - OH.
The only birthday that I had that bothered me was my 25th. I dunno why I even cared about that one, but I did. Quarter of a century. If I were furniture I'd be antique. If I were a car I'd be a collector's item. If I were a dog I'd be DEAD. Yep, that was 25.
This birthday is supposed to be a big deal. I'm not excited. I'm not dreading it. Just another day. Oh yeah... *MY* day.
Back in 2000 I had just relocated to Alabama. I was seperated from my (now ex) wife. She had this odd habit of letting her clothes fall off whenever she was around other men. Anyway, back to the story.
I woke up and went to work as usual. I had been working 12-15 hours per day 6 days per week for nearly 2 months at that point. I got to work, deactivated the alarm and was getting my day sorted out when the phone rang. The phone rarely rang that early, but no big deal. I answered the phone and on the other end was the sweetest little 4 yr old voice singing "Happy Birthday" to her daddy. Nearly brought a tear to my eye. Ever forgotten your own birthday before?
Work had a surprise party for me today. I didnt even know that they knew it was my bday. I have about a half day's work due tomorrow, too. That's how I'll spend it...
