Happy Samhain!

21:05 Oct 31 2007
Times Read: 992

Samhain (Sow-inn, also goes by the name Halloween by the Christian community. This is our time of endings and beginnings, so many Pagans celebrate the New Year at Samhain. This is a quieter time, a time when the veil between the physical and spiritual world is at its thinnest and spirits may pass between more readily. At Mabon, the God Lugh died in order for us to live through His abundance. During the intervening time, He has gathered the spirits of those that have died over the year and waits for the night so that they may pass through the gate to the other side. This is the time to revere our ancestors and to say farewell to those that have passed this last year. The abundance of the fields now gives way to the power and strength of the Horned God of the Hunt. This begins a time of darkness, when the land begins its slumber and from now until Yule, the days grow shorter and darker. Winter storms begin to sweep down from the north. The time when the earth rests is begun at Samhain. We celebrate the year passed and the year to come. We light bonfires and perform rituals to honor those that have gone before. A sacrifice of bread and wine is offered to the Gods as thanks for Their guidance throughout the passed year and in advance for the year to come.

I wish everyone a peaceful time of rememberence.....

The question is this:

Why is it that when someone helps you out and had already been on a friends list come cuss you out 3 to 4 months after the fact?

I just got a new PC to replace my ten year POS laptop.....

my old PC had 18GBs of memory and other limited programs.....

My new PC is almost 200 GBs....

and other headaches...

My new PC only cost me $850.... and another $50 to transfer all my files into it....

but their was a problem....

the transfer was not complete, and I had to spend two days to bring over the remaining files.....

and then I needed to get on-line and upload everything else....

the messengers I used were free... but the Word Processor programs cost me an additional $400.....

ugh...

But I'm now done.... and it's good to be at the forefront of technology again....

I have a PC that does what I want it to and is as fast as hell....

I even have new programs that let me do a lot of new stuff....

:: evil grin ::

but now I need to fix my car... and myself.....

My car needs to go into the shop ASAP....

and my head is pounding like a bass drum at a Metal concert...

Why is it when something good happens to me...

I get a lot of bad syuff happening along with it?

Game On!!!!!!!

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!!!!

it's the first game of the 2007 - 2008 season for

the New York Rangers!!!!!!

Tonite we play the Florida Panthers!

RANGERS WIN!!!!!!

Score: 5 - 2

In truth, every Rangers fan among the sellout crowd gathered at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night knew that the team's 2007-08 roster simply had too much talent in its ranks to lose a season-opener to the Florida Panthers. And certainly not in front of their own fans.

So even after Florida took a one-goal lead into the final period with a wide advantage in overall shots on goal, that fervent belief in the Blueshirts remained palpable throughout the arena.

The Garden Faithful's confidence in the home team was well deserved, because the Rangers came out and took care of business in the third period -- scoring four goals to sink the Panthers 5-2.

It was a season-opener to remember, as an emotional pregame ceremony featuring Brian Leetch was followed by all the positive things that have been expected of this very deep Rangers team.

All great things, and certainly worth the fans' wait until the third period to see them happen.

In each of their past three season-openers, the team has scored five goals. This win came by the same score, 5-2, as last year's home opener against Washington, although the script unfolded in a different manner.

By the time the third period was half over, it was already game, set and match.

Although the finish was spectacular, there was also a tremendous start to the game, thanks to No. 1 star Drury, who fed defenseman Michal Rozsival for the season's first goal just 37 seconds into the opening period.

Coming over center ice, Drury took a pass from Jagr and cut into the zone toward the left circle. Pulling up, he spotted Rozsival pinching in toward the slot. Rozsival collected Drury's pass in stride and unleashed a shot that blew by Vokoun for the 1-0 lead.

The goal was reminiscent of last year's season-opener, when Jagr had scored just 29 seconds into the game en route to a 5-2 win over Washington. Both Rozsival's goal and Jagr's tally last year came on the team's first shot of the game.

The Rangers ran into trouble in the second period, when Florida came back for two goals on 12 shots. Through 40 minutes, the Panthers had outshot the Blueshirts 21-9, but needed a pair of picture perfect shots to beat Lundqvist.

"We struggled a little in the second period," Lundqvist said. "You know as a goalie that when your team struggles for a little bit, you just have to hang in for a few minutes. You just have to stay in there and hopefully things will turn around and they did."

Prucha got the ball rolling at 6:07 of the third, erasing Florida's only lead of the game when he drove home a blast that resulted from Malik's brilliant pass in the offensive zone.

The tying goal developed quickly after Florida had cleared its own zone. Malik picked up a loose puck along the right boards of the neutral zone and swooped over the blueline before spotting Prucha all alone at the top of the left circle. Prucha wasted no time, unloading a slap shot that caught Florida goalie Tomas Vokoun (20 saves) under the left arm before angling back down to the ice and continuing its momentum into the net.

Drury broke the tie with the eventual game-winner at 8:46 of the third, capping off a run of heavy pressure that began with a long blast from Malik at the left point.

Malik's hard shot was kicked out by Vokoun, who fell off balance in making the save. Captain Jaromir Jagr (two assists on the night) picked up the rebound in front of the net to Vokoun's left and fired another shot that the diving goalie stopped. Only this time, the puck came out to Drury -- wide open in front of the crease. With his career-long knack for being in the right place at the right time, Drury picked up the rebound and flipped it into the unguarded net.

Twelve seconds later, the Rangers had the game's first two-goal lead. Callahan made it happen, sending the home fans into a frenzy when he pounced on a Mike Van Ryn giveaway between the circles and rifled a high shot against the grain into the top of the net. That made it 4-2

Straka finished off the rout with 6:58 left in the game. Another Malik shot led to that final goal, as the defenseman's left-point drive bounced off the boards behind the net and out to Straka, who put it in to reduce the final minutes to garbage time.

"There were too many turnovers," said disappointed Florida head coach Jacques Martin. "We gave them some goals in the third, and they took advantage. They have players that can capitalize. We changed our game. The first two periods we made good, short passes. We had good support out of our zone. In the third period, we started to leave the zone."

Thursday's game marked the Rangers debuts of Drury and Scott Gomez, as well as the NHL debut of defenseman Marc Staal, who was paired on the backline with Paul Mara. Staal saw 16 minutes of ice time.

"I was just hoping that I wouldn't fall," said Gomez of his first introduction to the Garden Faithful. "I have been on that side (visitors' side of the ice) enough to know that there is a little lift there. That's definitely New York for you. It is an awesome experience, and I am just glad that we could get (a win) for them tonight."

The achievements were numerous. Newcomer Chris Drury scored the game-winner and added two assists in his Rangers debut. Defenseman Marek Malik picked up three assists. Petr Prucha indicated there would be no early-season slump like a year ago, rifling home the first score in the four-goal outburst. Youngster Ryan Callahan continued to build on his success last season with a beautiful goal, and goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was his usual self with 27 saves, keeping the team in the game until the third-period eruption.
