How to have a conversation..... updated.

I love the internet....

Because of it, people have forgotten to start a conversation with new people. They forgot how rude it is to come up to a person they have never met.... and just act like they already know each other. That's not how it works!

Yes.... I have a profile...

Yes.... it is visible to the public....

and yes..... I like to meet new people.....

but I refuse to allow good manners be sacrificed to the World Wide Web.

So here's a crash course on how to start a proper conversation:

Step 1: Introduce yourself.

this is your first impression to a new person. Starting this new potential relationship with the phrase, "Yo wassup?" or "Hey", says "I am not a person worth knowing". Start with something simple, like "Hello.... My name is (your name here), I just read your profile and I think you are really interesting". Then mention your common interests. BTW, "How you doing?" is NOT a conversation starter.

If the person wishes to talk... they will. Then we go to....

Step 2: Keeping the conversation going.

If you have actually read their profile, you probably already know their interests. Talk to person about what you actually have in common. If they like Edgar Allen Poe, and you like Edgar Allen Poe... I'm sure you both will have a hell of a time discussing what poems are your favs and why.

Or if their profile is cool, and you like the artwork, music, or whatever else that caught your attention..... ask them about it.....

But most importantly.... never send a message that sounds like it ends. It sends the person you want to talk to, a message.... and that message is, "this conversation is over".

The old Show-Biz saying, "Leave them wanting more"... is just as true for a conversation. Regardless of what is being said in the conversation, people who are actually interested in what you are saying... will not want to stop talking. They tell you their opinions, and will want to know yours as well. Remember.... a good conversation can last for several days if you pick the right topics.

Once you get the conversation going, you have started a relationship with the person. But where this relationship goes, depends on one thing....

Step 3: Respect

You are talking to a human being. They have opinions, they have thoughts.... and the like to share them. LET THEM!

You started this conversation to learn about this person. If you don't let them express themselves freely, they won't want to converse with you again..... ever.

It is also advisable to respect the person's beliefs and wishes. It's a sign of maturity and humanity, and best of all.... the person will respect your beliefs and wishes.

Ideally, in the end, Respect will be returned to you, and the person will consider you a friend.

By following these 3 steps.... you will hopefully achieve a real conversation, and start new relationships that will last for a long time.

Nicely written. I really wish the internet would blow up. Humanity today has lost touch with themselves and more into technology because they think its easier that way. Technology has only made us dumber as a society.
