The princess awoke early one morning to the sound of light bells in a distance. She stretched and yawned quietly, glancing around her room through the light blue transparent curtains surrounding her canopy bed. Gingerly, she climbed out of bed and pulled on her robe as she walked to her balcony to feel the morning breeze. The blue of the sky and formation of the pure white clouds resembled a Monet painting, making her smile at the beauty.
She walked back inside, after admiring God’s perfect creation, and got ready for another peaceful day in Heaven. She looked in the mirror, admiring her pale green dress that gently swept the floor as she moved and clung to her figure once it got up to her waist. Smiling daintily, she walked out of her bedroom, twirling her platinum blonde hair in her fingers. Making her way to the gardens outside, she heard the voice of her best friend behind her.
“Alexa! Wait up!” Samuel laughed as he ran to catch up to her. He kissed her cheek good morning and took her hand as he walked with her. Samuel was a tall, skinny boy with feathery chestnut hair that feel in his face. He always dressed in bold colors, which made him stand out from the crowd of pale pastel colors usually seen in Heaven, something Alexa always adored about him.
“Good morning, Sam,” Alexa giggled as she swung their arms gently. To her, Samuel was the one she was to marry. Together, they would rule Heaven when her father, God, finally decided to step down and allow them to take care of his kingdom. The two never discussed their future, as they were always told that as soon as it happened, they would know exactly what to do.
As they walked to see her father, they heard a screeching noise in the hall. Alexa froze for a moment, before running to see what the commotion was about, what she came across was anything but beautiful. A girl, a demon girl, was lying on the floor, beaten and bleeding, blood such a deep red that Alexa thought it was fake. Before she even thought about it, Alexa rushed to the young girls aid, looking for her wounds. As she helped the demon, she asked her name.
The young demon looked at Alexa as if she were crazy for helping her. She studied her before responding weakly, “Lexi.” Alexa nodded, smiling softly at her. Despite the fact that Lexi was a demon, she was beautiful and quite mysterious. She looked at Samuel to help her carry her to her father, but he simply shook his head. Alexa stared at him for a moment before pulling Lexi up and supporting her weight as she took her to the throne room.
As soon as God saw his angel helping a demon to see him, he stood up. He walked straight over to them and roared, “Alexa! What are you doing here?!”
Alexa looked at her father, scared. She wasn’t sure what she had done wrong, since she had been taught by the man that she was to give aid to those who needed it. She found her voice, shaky as it was, “Helping her. . . she’s hurt. . .” And so the argument began, ending with the death of Lexi by God’s hand. He did not want his daughter to break the rules and end up dead. He did not want her to grow close to a child of Satan.
She looked from the lifeless body in her arms to her father. Tears, so clear and full of hurt that you couldn’t bear to watch them flow, began to cascade down her cheeks and onto the body of Lexi. At this moment, she knew what she was going to do. The one thing she had wanted to do for so long, and now finally had reason to do so. She walked from the room, and traveled to the human plane.
