Darrien stood above his latest victim, she had been a succulent red-head with stark green eyes, watching her as her body twitched from the loss of blood. He picked up her discarded purse and fumbled through it, looking for any money she might have....the things women kept in their purses these days... and the money was always at the bottom. She would'nt need it now. Darrien quickly counted the money he collected from her purse. Seventy-two dollars, not a bad start for the night.
He took one last look at his victim, taking in the night air, the scent of alcohol and Urine wafting about. Over that, the night felt just like it did on his rebirth. He remembered the way he had taken in the blood that soaked through the dirt around him. It was animal blood from a butchery that had just recently been built. Remembered how he gained enough strength to rise from his prison. He clenched his eyes and shook his head lightly to shake the thought.
He left the site of his latest feeding, hoping that the council didnt know of his presence just yet. It had only been three nights since his rebirth after all. He hoped to kill each member one by one. After so many years underground (literally), he had come up with ways to kill each one. All Darrien needed now was time. Time enough to regain his full strength and abilities, but not too much time, someone might spot him and alert the council that he had awoken a bit ahead of schedule. Three hundred years ahead of schedule to be more precise. He had to lay low, for now.

As Darrien walked down an empty street in the ghetto of New York, he happened upon an abandoned house. From the outside, it looked as though it would be a great resting place for him. The windows were borded up to the point of no visible cracks, and the door was dead-bolted. Darrien could force it open easily, but did'nt want to leave an opening that size. He circled to the back of the house, where he found a cellar that was nearly invisible and wasn't too hard to open.
He wrenched open the cellar door, a musky, earth smell filled his nostrils. He almost fell backwards from the stentch. He had been underground far too long to submit himself to such a torture as the cellar, but maybe there were stairs leading to the inside of the house.
Darrien gritted his teeth and lowered himself down into the cellar, his eyes adjusting almost instantly to the darkness. He held out his arm infront of him and started to walk forward. He caught several spider webs and quickly brushed them aside. He found the stairs quickly and made his way up them. At the top, the door was locked, ofcourse, so he pushed against it, not wanting to make much noise incase the neighbors were outside. The door came open easily and he stepped through.
Darrien looked around his surroundings and said to himself " Well, it beats the underground, and it looks alot better than last nights place." He made his way down the cellar stairs and out the opening to the back yard. He knew that he would need atleast one more meal before he slept through the day.
Darrien was on the hunt again...

Standing hidden from view, Darrien awaited his next opportunity. He had found a small second story balcony that seemed like it hadn't been used in years. Dust covered the ground around him, barely touched by the light wind that blew through the city. Though the stone around him crumbled, the base of the balcony was relatively sturdy. It was the perfect place to jump from, should an unsuspecting victim find herself alone in the streets.
Many had passed beneath him, but none suited his thirst. Few had been alone, and those that were always seemed to be males. One had seemed promising, but he had just been a wolf in sheeps clothing, not what he was looking for. Why couldn't people just accept what they were given and quit trying to act the opposite sex?
From a small apartment complex nearby, he heard the sounds of fighting. Perhaps this was the opportunity he had been waiting for. Listening in, he heard one male, one female voice. The window muffled most of the fight between the two, but he could hear the guy yell "LIAR!" Then the sound of a slamming door and glass breaking against the wall filled his senses. He could only hope that it was the female who had left the apartment, and not the male. Darrien sat poised to strike, ready to jump from the balcony and intercept a victim.
After what seemed like hours after the slamming door, finally, someone emerged from the apartment. Their movement was quick and distressed. Looking closer, Darrien could see that this was indeed a female, and by the way she was moving, the one who had just been in a fight.
The distressed woman looked around, as if unsure of where she was going. Tears streamed down her face as she sobbed. Finally she wiped away the tears and hurried toward where Darrien lay hidden from view. As the woman passed quickly beneath him, Darrien leaped from the balcony and landed quietly behind her. Looking closely at her, he could see her ragged breaths. Crying or not, he needed blood, and she suited his needs.
He moved quickly, but efficiently. Placing one hand over her mouth to muffle any sound she may make, and restraining her with the other arm, he pulled her into a back alley where he could feed in peace. The woman struggled in his grip, but was no match for his strength. She kept screaming into his hand, but no one heard. Tears of fear flowed down her cheeks from somewhat bloodshot blue-green eyes, and her breathing was no longer ragged, but quick. Tilting her head to her side, her long tresses of gold fell away, exposing her neck. Not only could he hear her fear, he could now see it as well. Blood pulsed quickly through her veins. The fear only made his hunger grow. He could wait no longer, he needed to feed.
Plunging his fangs deep into her neck, he began to leech the sweet nectar of life from the pulsing vein. The woman gasped into his hand as his fangs entered her tender skin. Her struggles became weaker by the minute. Soon, he no longer needed to restrain her, but support her. After draining what blood he could, he set her softly on the ground. As he had done with the last victim, he took what money she had on her.
She didn't have a purse with her, that was probably still in the apartment. Searching through her pockets, he found lots of change, and a small wad of bills. There were nine ones, and a couple of fives. Between the change, which was mostly quarters, and the cash, she had about $22, however; change was a hassle, so he left it behind.
He hoped that he had placed this victim far enough away from the first that the council wouldn't suspect anything was amiss. Looking to the skies, he could see that it was getting late, it was time to return to the cellar, or face the consequences.
Though his hunger wasn't completely satiated, Darrien thought that he could make it through the day without making another quick kill before he actually returned to the cellar. At least the house that the cellar was attached to was easily accesed from the cellar. He already knew that much.

Upon reaching the streets near his chosen place of rest, Darrien sensed that he wasn't alone. He wouldn't be able to approach the cellar without either removing this presence, or at least making sure that they were a safe distance away. He moved in closer to see whether the 'intruder' was foe, or meal.
Stumbling back and fourth, without much sense of direction, was a hunched over figure. Judging by its size, it was a female. In her hand were the remains of a large bottle of vodka. Judging by her staggered movements, she had been the one who drained the rest of the bottle. She tripped over her own feet many times while he watched her movements. She seemed to move around in circles, lost in her drunkenness.
Apparently, she wouldn't be leaving the area anytime soon, and Darrien needed to get out of the open air before the sun rose. Darting forward, he grabbed the woman by her wrists, and pulled her toward the cellar. The woman let out a few words of garbled English, but didn't have the sense to call out for help.
Darrien didn't realize that the woman wasn't the only presence nearby. Hidden in the shadows were two members of the clan Nosferatu. One of them had detected his presence earlier in the night, and had decided to investigate. The other had found Darrien's first victim. He had been out to check on his sister, and found her lying there in the alley, sucked dry, not even given the chance of being turned. He followed Darrien's faint scent, strong to the Nosferatu, back to the cellar, looking to destroy the one who had taken his sister into the lands of death. The second vampire remained outside, while the one who had detected Darrien first hid his presence within the cellar.
For being hunched over, much like the woman that Darrien was currently removing, though hunched for different reasons, this vampire moved quickly. The hunched Nosferatu was almost upon Darrien before he realized the other vampire was there. With lightning fast reflexes, though not as fast as they had been before his imprisonment, Darrien shot out an open fist, grabbing the enraged Nosferatu by the throat, and lifting him up off the ground.
Glaring into the Nosferatu's eyes, Darrien tightened his grip on his throat. "It's a bit early to be charging at someone you don't know the weaknesses of, isn't it?" With Darrien's tightened grip, all the hunched over vampire could manage were garbled words.
Darrien released his grip enough that the vampire could manage a stifled "You kill Thomas' sister, you kill her... not a chance of living, none, nada...you kill my sister!" before slamming him against the house.
"You never should have attacked me. Perhaps you would like to join your sister? You shall face the consequences of your actions against me." Darrien charged at the fallen vampire, knowing that there was nothing that the Nosferatu could do to stop him.
Grabbing Thomas by his throat once more, this time breaking the skin, Darrien slowly tightened his grasp. With each second, Thomas' face turned a lighter shade of white. Snarling, Darrien told him, "The consequences of attacking me, are death, and they will be met." With that, Darrien crushed the vampire's throat, then pulled outward, tearing it from its place.
Wiping his hand on Thomas' clothing, he though to himself... If that didn't kill him... the sunlight will. Then he mumbled to himself "Now maybe I can get some rest..."

After watching the scene below, Jessica waited for Darrien to enter the cellar. Finally, after what seemed like hours, he did, and sounds of another scuffle arose. She moved quickly, if she didnt pull him out of the sun, Thomas would die from exposure. She would have to alert the council as soon as possible, and with both her and Thomas' to vouch that Darrien had arisen, they would have to do something.
Though Jessica was a mortal, she followed the vampires, gaining the trust of many, often saving them from destruction. She had distracted many hunters, waking the vampire and allowing them to dispose of the hunter. She had pulled many into safe places when the sun peeked over the horizon. She always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. She didn't fear them as most others did. After awhile, the council begun hearing tales of a human who was preventing the destruction of vampires in the New York area. She never allowed herself to become close to any of the vampires, for she knew the consequences were dire, both for the vampire, and the mortal.
Jessica already knew that Darrien was one of those who had fallen for a mortal, and been imprisoned. She had been shown where he was imprisoned underground several times by various vampires. They always repeated Darriens story when they took her near his prison. She had grown tired of hearing it. Yet she had watched Darriens prison, night and day, watching for any signs of him arising. No one else had. They hadnt thought it possible for him to escape. Of course, had they been paying attention, they would have noticed that a butchery had moved in right above his prison. With its arrival, Darrien had a source of blood, a way of strenghthening himself for escape.
She wondered what the council would do when she showed up, a badly injured vampire with her. Sure, he would regenerate, but not in the time it took to get to the Council. She knew she was taking a great risk. The council might not take kindly to her, but this was necessary. They needed to know that Darrien had escaped.
Jessica pulled Thomas' limp body from next to the wall, then lifted him from the ground. It wasn't an easy task, especially for a woman. She grunted as she lifted him over her shoulder, her arm and back muscles shivering beneath his weight. Blood from Thomas' neck seeped into her shirt and some onto her hair. The hair saturated in blood turned to a dark brown, almost darkening it to the point of being black.
She would have to be careful not to be seen by the locals. Anyone who saw a lady carrying a limp body around would surely raise an alarm. The back alleys seemed a good way to get to her destination undetected. But then again, that is where the drug addicts and gangs tended to hang out. She made her decision, she would have to take the better of two evils.
Jessica thought about which path in the alleys would get her to one of the council members place of rest the quickest, without being seen. She planned out her course as she went, taking left and rights randomly, or so it seemed.
Her lower back muscles started to ache less than halfway to her destination. She would need to put Thomas down if she didn't find who she was seeking soon. She stumbled over an invisible hole in the street, but managed to catch herself with one hand, grasping an open dumpster. Setting Thomas down, she paused, only for a moment. The stench coming from the dumpster was nausiating. She had no choice but to breath it in though. She needed to catch her breath. Her stomach churned at the smell of rotten eggs and fish guts, among other rotten scents.
Once again, she lifted Thomas, which was more of a challenge this time around. Her muscles burned, screaming at her for lifting so much weight for so long. She would reach her destination, but at the price of using all her energy. She wouldn't be able to flee should the vampires decide her a nice meal instead of an informant. It was only a little further...
