SIN MORDARE

It was a wonderful summer night; he loved nights like this. He looked calmly above him at the gleaming full moon. A smile slowly stretched its way across his face as his eyes wandered lazily back down; only to rest upon the sight of her lying in the cool dark grass. This would be a lovely number ten, and with each before things had become amazingly simple. He stepped over to the lovely creature resting before him, and leaned down to gently re-position her arm.

“Don’t you worry beautiful lady; you will get all the attention you’ve ever wanted soon enough.” He chuckled to himself as he pondered the expression that would come across the face of the unlucky soul that would find her mangled body. Callously he sauntered away from her. In due time she would be found, just like the rest and the world would know that the killer of sin wasn’t going to vanish anytime soon; He was here to stay.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was four a.m. when the phone startled Sasha awake. Groggily she reached for the phone to answer.
“Hello, this is Mercer.” She waited for a response as she forced herself up out from the covers.
“Mercer? This is James. Someone has found another girl.” Sasha sighed heavily.
“Another one of the Sin Killer girls?” She rubbed her eyes and yawned.
“Yeah, and Sasha, this one’s really bad; really bad.” Sasha could hear the discomfort and disgust in James’ voice. “I’ve never seen anything like it, neither has the coroner.” She could feel the pit of her stomach twist as she listened to James.
“I’ll be there shortly James.” Sasha heard James’ usual grunt of acknowledgement and hung up. Placing both hands over her face she tried to gather herself and her thoughts. This was horrific, this would be the tenth killing and the department was no closer to finding the killer than they were from the get-go. She threw her hands down and screamed out. “Damn it!” She knew that she had to get this guy soon, or it was going to make her crazy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

James felt faintly relieved when he saw Sasha’s truck pull up at the edge of the park. Maybe it was just a reassuring to know that someone else, someone that was sane, could see what he was seeing and tell him he wasn’t nuts. He’d been working homicide for twenty-eight years and he had no choice but to admit that this particular murder really rattled him.

“Sorry I had to call and wake you up at this hour Sasha.” He watched as she threw a hand up and shook her head as a dismissal.

“It’s our job James. Where’s the body at?” James pointed to a clearing that was just past a row of hedges. He watched anxiously as Sasha walked over to the murder scene. He scolded himself, as he thought about how terribly sexy Sasha was under stress. What a shame it was that at such a young age she had chosen such a dismal career. He jostled to catch up to Sasha; the reaction that he caught on her face was enough to tell him that she had already seen the girl. Yet, what amazed him even more was how rapidly Sasha quelled the fear and disgust that showed so clearly in her face. Indifferently she rattled off her observations. “Same m.o. Young woman completely skinned. Arms, legs, and head cleanly severed from the body. But, the killer’s getting more macabre. The eyes have been removed. Maybe he kept them as mementos?” James shook his head, there wasn’t enough light out yet for her to see, so he handed her a light.

“Look again.” It was going to be interesting to see if she could calm herself when she saw where they had been placed. She stared blankly at him for a moment, and the commenced to re-examining the body.

“I see, one is in the opening of her vagina, and the other is in her rectum. Odd. They were not just placed in, but sewn in.” James pocketed his hands and watched as the gears spun in Sasha’s mind. Could she really see something that he had not? Would she be able to break the case with this one? God, he hoped so. Sasha looked over at James. “It’s like the eyes are meant to be a statement; like they are intentionally looking out. Was there another note left with this one too?” James could only nod at her as he called for one of the forensics members to bring him the note. He motioned for the note to be given to Sasha. James did his best not to stare at the remains of the girl as Sasha read the note aloud. “Let not the whores of the world be vain; for only the dogs of Earth and the demons of Hell see them. Let it be that they are witnesses to their crimes and see the filth of their souls. So on this night, as punishment a whore dies. Sin killer.” Sasha shook her head and James could see the anger spreading across her face. “Another one of his insane commandments; what’s next?” Sasha’s calm demeanor was cracking with the frustration that was surely building in her mind. This guy was finally starting to get to her. Hell, this guy was starting to get to them all, to the whole city even. Sasha took one more long glance down at the girl’s body. “Make sure that forensics doesn’t miss anything. They need to get EVERYTHING! Then you come and meet me at command.” James took the note as Sasha stormed past him back to her truck. He wondered if this was going to be the case that would break her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sasha slammed the door shut and started the engine. There were still fresh images of that woman in her mind, picture perfect as she drove out of the park. ‘Why such young women?’ When she knew that she was clear of the crime scene she pulled out a pack of cigarettes and slid one out. She flicked the lighter and watched as the flames devoured the paper at the end of the cigarette. That’s what this killer was like. He was like a hungry fire; starving for destruction and chaos. Leaving a bloody trail of mutilated women, and cryptic, but taunting notes he was gaining all the chaos he wanted. The police were scrambling to even piece together the evidence, only to have it lead them nowhere. Sasha slammed her hands against the steering wheel and cried out “FUCK!” Her foot dropped heavily onto the gas pedal as she rushed to get to the main road. She had to figure something out soon, she had to get this bastard and get this case closed soon. In the back of her mind she recalled that she had to meet with the adoption agency today. ‘Great. A mutilated girl, and I have to meet with that aggravating adoption agent.’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He watched eagerly as the woman entered the building. This was her second visit to the Altman’s Children’s Home. He knew that she was pregnant, and he knew as well that she did not want the child. It would be amusing to see what choice she would make when she was told that the home had no room for more children. It was no secret that every adoption clinic in the city was at its fullest capacity. The woman was probably in her late twenties and apparently quite a successful business executive. Time was quickly running out for her and she had only three options. Have the baby and keep it, something he already knew wasn’t going to happen. Adopt the baby out, something else that had no chance in hell. Or abort. This is what he was waiting for. It would only be a matter of time before she committed her sin. He focused intently as the vulgar headmistress handed her two pamphlets; one for abortion, and one for single parent support. It was horridly obvious that the young woman was more interested in the pamphlet about the abortion. Now, all that was left for him to do, was catch her when she was alone and vulnerable. If he was right about her, she would prance out of the adoption clinic and drive straight over to the clinic. All he would have to do now, was sit back and wait for things to unfold, should everything go as planned he would be able to punish her tonight.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The trip to the adoption agency had failed miserably. There was no conceivable way for her to go through with a pregnancy. She was due for a promotion that would make her CEO, which meant meetings abroad, and dinner parties. There was no room for a child in that equation. She had no option left; she knew that it was selfish but this was her only life and chance at success. She wasn’t about to let some little not-so-bundle-of-joy come along and ruin everything. The idea of abortion itself was frightening, yet she had no doubt that she would manage to get over it. She had already left the Altman’s Children’s Home and was headed to the clinic that was listed on the brochure that had been given to her. It was decided; she only hoped that it would be over relatively quick.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He stood silently outside of her window watching her. It had been about nine hours since he had last seen her, but considering the cocktails and pills she was popping; it was obvious that she had committed her sin. His eyes took in the sight of her lying sleepily on the couch. For a moment he debated with himself if she would be functional enough to get into the warehouse or not. Silently he walked up to her front door; he took a deep breath and managed the most panicked look he could muster. He then began to beat his arms on the door, as loudly as he could while he cried out through the wooden barrier.

“Help! Please! I need help!” He could hear her footsteps fall quickly on the floor as she approached. The lock clicked loudly, and he could feel his heart pounding rampantly inside his ribcage. This was going to be fun. The door opened and he saw her stare at him dumbfounded. “Please! Come help me! My little sister and I were playing in the warehouse down the road, and she fell through the floor into a hole! I think she’s bleeding!” The woman looked concerned but hesitant; he grabbed her hand and began pulling her out the door. The last thing he wanted was for her to get away. She tried to pull against him.

“Let me call the police so they can send an ambulance.” She turned to go back inside for the phone. He felt the rage pour over him and he tugged violently at her hand.

“No!” He shouted at her. He watched her eyes widen in shock and surprise. “There isn’t time, she’s bleeding a lot, and I think you can reach her. Please! Please just come help us! The woman had a slight moment of pause, in which he used to tug her out of the doorway and onto her porch. She was already out the door, so it was no surprise that she followed him down the street running. If only she knew what he had in store for her, she would be running the opposite direction. He looked back at her worriedly assuring her that they were almost there. The warehouse was about nine blocks from her house, and as they got closer he could feel the excitement swelling throughout his body. “It’s right there!” He pointed and jostled her over to the entrance of the building.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She had no idea why she was doing this, why she hadn’t just put her foot down and called the police. Maybe this little boy was just trying to pull a horrid prank on her. Her mind went over what the physician had said to her before leaving the clinic that strenuous activity was a bad idea this soon after an abortion. The fear of self injury vanished as she entered the warehouse. Faintly she could hear cries for help echoing through the building; she glanced nervously down at the boy.
“Where is she?” Earnestly she looked around as the boy led her to a small hole in the flooring. Maybe she could help save this girl, and she wouldn’t feel so guilty about the child she had given up. The boy pointed down.
“She fell down there.” She leaned down and tried calling out to the girl.
“It’s going to be okay; your brother brought me here to help you. Can you hear me?” Her eyes scanned the dark space below her as she awaited a response. Another cry for help issued faintly from the murky area below. It was far too dark for her to see anyone, and from the corner of her eye she realized that the boy wasn’t standing next to her anymore. She turned to look for him and saw a pipe headed full speed at her face. Quickly she threw an arm up to shield herself, but wasn’t nearly fast enough. She felt the sharp impact against her nose and cheekbone. The force threw her off balance and she felt herself fall into the same hole she was trying to find the little girl in. As she slammed against the floor she heard several snapping sounds, and realized that she had broken a handful of bones. Dazed she tried to sit, but couldn’t get the bearings to do so. She became dizzy and felt the searing rush of pain spread through her body, she slowly turned her head back up to the light from the hole and saw the little boy smiling at her; and then his face became fuzzy and distorted and darkness closed in as she lost consciousness.
