I went last Friday, July 21st to see Monster House. It's a kids' movie, but it's not bad. There's some laughs and some touching parts and of course, the always present 'happy ending'. If you have kids, take them. Little ones might get a bit scared, there are some scary parts. =)
HIT!
Ok- so I am one of those absolutely nuts people who went to the midnight (late Thurs/early Fri) showing of this movie. They started seating for this showing at 9PM! Needless to say it was like a big party. People in their PJs, blankets laid out on the ground, and games being played (lots of cards!). Oh and don't forget the beach balls! There were a few dressed up in pirate gear, one guy in particular was dressed like Captain Jack Sparrow. Head to toe completely identical down to the compass and rum smell! He walked like him, talked like him... you get the picture. And I, as usual, forgot my damn camera!
The movie itself was a little slow starting, there's a lot more story in this one. The action sequences were great. I really liked the 3 way sword fight betweeen Jack, Will, and Norrington, especially when Elizabeth starts yelling at them. Davy Jones and his crew were done up very well, I loved all the different looking faces and such. The Kraken was a great piece of CG. Unfortunately towards the end when it attacks Jack, it looks a little fake.
I really enjoyed the movie and was not wanting it to end when all of a sudden, it did. I have to admit- I HATED the ending. I'm not real fond of the cliff hanger ending, because it really doesn't bring any closure to any part of the story. You'll still have all these little subplots going on. Well I will say, they've got me wondering what will happen and have sold me on coming back to see how it ends. Now I have to wait a whole damn year to see it! =(
This is definitely a 'must see' movie- 'HIT'!
This movie is definitely not for those who can't deal with criticism or those with body issues. Even I, who am comfortable with my body, had a hard time listening to what was being said at times.
Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway) goes to work for Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) editor in chief for Runway magazine. Andy comes to New York to be a journalist and instead ends up working as Miranda's assistant at the premiere fashion magazine.
The movie is based on the book by Lauren Weisberger. I have not read the book myself, though I have heard that it is a good adaptation.
While I enjoyed both Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep in their roles, I'd have to say my favorite character in the movie was Nigel played by Stanley Tucci.
Once again- overall, I say: 'HIT!"
I went and saw Superman Returns this past Saturday. Brandon Routh does a very good Clark Kent/Superman and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor was a brilliant choice. Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane and Sam Huntington as Jimmy Olson were good as well. I feel almost sorry for James Marsden though, he always seems to be part of some love triangle!
The movie itself was entertaining, and I found myself getting teary eyed during a scene toward the end. I won't tell you what happens because it would spoil the movie. Let's just say they left it open for a sequel or two. =)
Overall- 'HIT!'
