A small family of skunks crossed my path as I walk
Foxes fleeting across the beams of my headlamps
Mice racing across the on ramps of highways
Rabbits racing out into the path of my tractor from the edge of the road, chasing the beam of my headlamp and being overtaken before I have time to react.
A blue heron standing in a stream by the side of the road
Deer crossing the highway or standing by the side of the road
Hawks stooping in the air or perched on phone poles
Coyotes loping along the road in the dark
The sun setting crimson on the horizon, the clouds turning purple, vermillion and pomegranate
The sun rising golden on the horizon, the sky changing from night to day, shading from Cimmerian violate to cerulean blue.
The land changing through the seasons; the leaves passing from green to a riot of purple, red, orange and yellow, the branches going bare in the winter and budding in the spring, the snows melting in the rains and the rains turning to snow, storm clouds massing in the dusk, burnished by the setting Sun like bastions and ramparts of fire.
Surfers catching the waves on the shores of Lake Ontario at Hamilton Beach
Sailboats streaming across the bay, slipping out through the canal to ply the waves of Lake Ontario
Lake transport ships navigating the canal from Lake Ontario to Burlington Bay.
The lights of the city of Hamilton at night spread out across the bay like choker of pearls on black velvet, the gas flares of the steel factory smoke stacks glowing like beads of amber.
The fog swirling around light standards like faerie magic at work
