She lay beside him, watching the shallow rise and fall of his chest. His cheeks, flushed with vitality and lust only an hour before, were pale alabaster. On his neck, blood flowed profusely from two small, deep holes. Slowly, he turned his eyes towards her.
“ You said you wouldn't”
“ You believed me” Her eyes were sad. She reached out a hand and stroked his cold brow. His breathing was slowing now, small, shallow movements like a dying bird.
“Foolish boy! Did I not warn you? When we take your heart, we take your soul”
He looked at her, his fading eyes flickering with shadows of confusion. The loss of blood was slowing his thinking, she could see the fear, the incomprehension in his eyes.
“Did I not tell you, when you first offered yourself, that it is you who lays upon the altar? Did you suppose I would seek to sacrifice myself? “
“I had hoped.....” His voice was fading. It rustled like autumn leaves upon the ground. She knew his time was near. She could not help the smile that croseed her bloodstained lips. The foolishness of mortals never ceased to amaze her.. She stopped stroking his brow and leant close, her breath warm in his ear.
“And how shall that which is immortal sacrifice itself? On whose altar shall I lay?”
He turned his head away, but not before she caught the glimmer of tears. Pulling her hand away. Claudia thought for a moment. When she leaned forward again, her voice held a ferocious intensity.
“I give you a choice I have given no other.”
Edmund’s eyes turned to her once again, searching, hopeful.
“ I have infected you. I can return you to life, but you are mine now. You will be destined to wander through your days seeking the taste of me, my touch...but you will not find it. Your hunger will never cease, never find satisfaction. You will go to your grave without love, without comfort”
His breathing was barely discernable..She knew.there wasn't much time.
“ Or......you can become one of us. You will still hunger insatiably, your soul will know no rest, but you will be with me for eternity......or.... I can simply let you die.”
Again his voice rustled from his throat , underpinned by the distinctive wheeze of the dying.
“Want.....to be......with …....you.....”
Sadly she shook her head. She had given him the chance of death, of escape. Foolish mortal, consumed by passion even to his dying breath. With a heavy sigh, she turned up her wrist and in one swift movement, pierced the flesh with a sharp fang. A river of blood errupted from her immortal vein, spurting through her skin in a volcanic eruption of life. Laying her head upon his chest, she counted.......four.......three......two.......one......
As the last beat of his heart struggled to keep him, she pressed her wrist firmly against his open mouth. Her blood flowed into him, an internal baptism. It took a moment and she thought she had lost him, but in a sudden convulsing movement he began to take in the sweet plasma,... with difficulty at first, but swallowing thirstily as the warm liquid strengthened him. It dribbled from the sides of his mouth, trickling down his throat and neck where his own blood lay. The two mingled upon his skin, and she knew it was complete.
Slowly his eyes opened, aglow with a new luminosity. He looked at her and a small smile crossed his blood soaked lips. She smiled back. and as she leant down to kiss him, whispered.
“Welcome to eternity”

As the plot thickens, what hard trials lay ahead for this new vampire and his maker, Claudia?..:) I will stay tuned for more..^^
