Final results from Zimbabwe's one-candidate presidential election have been delayed, election officials say. They said they hoped they would be able to announce the results on Sunday - a day later than originally expected.

President Robert Mugabe was said to have won by a wide margin, after the opposition boycotted the vote amid claims of violence and intimidation.

But international observers have reported many spoilt ballots, which in some areas could outnumber votes cast.

Earlier, officials said the count was complete, but later reports said results from rural areas were still trickling in.

"Tonight we cannot give the results. I don't want to give a time-frame, but I hope it will be tomorrow," Utoile Silaigwana, the deputy chief elections officer for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, told Reuters news agency.

Mr Mugabe is expected to be sworn in on Sunday for another term in office.

Contrary to the state-run newspaper's report of a massive turnout in Friday's election, the head of the Pan-African parliament observer mission in Zimbabwe said turnout had been "very, very low".

But Zimbabwean journalist Brian Hungwe says that in some cases, voters expressed their anger against the violence by calling Mr Mugabe a murderer on the ballot papers.

Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), announced he was pulling out of the election on Sunday.

But his name remained on ballot papers after Zimbabwe's electoral authorities refused to accept his decision.

Mr Mugabe came second to Mr Tsvangirai in the first round of the presidential vote in March.

Since then, the MDC says some 86 of its supporters have been killed and 200,000 forced from their homes by militias loyal to Zanu-PF.

US President George W Bush has called for strong international action against what he called the "illegitimate" government of Zimbabwe.

In a statement, Mr Bush said his secretaries of state and the treasury were working on the penalties. He added he would press for international action, including an arms embargo.

He said the move was in response to "the Mugabe regime's blatant disregard for the Zimbabwean people's democratic will and human rights".

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are continuing to try to find a solution to the crisis.

Kenyan Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula has said sanctions against Zimbabwe are unlikely to work, and that Mr Mugabe and the opposition should instead be encouraged to talk.

An arms embargo and sanctions will not work on Mugabe, nothing will.

Mugabe and his inner circle controls militias and has a cargo ship full of brand new weapons from China.

Mugabe and his inner circle has bullet proof cars and millions of dollars, or billions and maybe trillions in Zimbabwe $

UNSTOPPABLE.

Never will work other than a few cruise missiles.

UN calls for Zimbabwe poll delay

01:57 Jun 24 2008
Times Read: 745

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said Zimbabwe's presidential run-off poll should be postponed following the withdrawal of the opposition candidate. Mr Ban said Morgan Tsvangirai's decision was understandable, and condemned what he called a government campaign of violence and intimidation.

Later, the UN Security Council declared that it would be "impossible" to hold free and fair elections. Zimbabwe election officials had said Friday's second round would go ahead.

Mr Tsvangirai has taken refuge in the Dutch embassy in the capital Harare.

A Dutch foreign ministry spokesman said Mr Tsvangirai feared for his safety, but had not requested asylum.

Zimbabwe's head of police, however, said Mr Tsvangirai was not in any danger.

On Monday, more than 60 supporters of Mr Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party were arrested at its Harare headquarters.

The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a statement condemning the violence and saying that free and fair elections would be impossible to hold on 27 June. UN chief says he is "distressed" by the situation in Zimbabwe

The non-binding statement is much watered down from a draft version circulated by Western countries on the council. But for the first time, Zimbabwe is criticized by South Africa, Russia and China.

Earlier, Mr Ban said that if the run-off took place as scheduled, it would only "deepen divisions within the country and produce a result that cannot be credible".

He said: "Conditions do not exist for free and fair elections right now in Zimbabwe. "There has been too much violence, too much intimidation."

He said the world had witnessed "fear, hostility and blatant attacks" against Zimbabwe's people.

After discussing the issues with a number of African leaders, he said he strongly advised President Robert Mugabe's leadership to postpone the election until the right conditions were in place for people to vote freely and fairly.

Mr Ban added that what happened in Zimbabwe had significance beyond its borders and was the "single greatest challenge to regional stability".

The MDC won the parliamentary vote in March, and claims to have won the first round of the presidential contest outright. According to official results, Mr Tsvangirai led but failed to gain enough votes to avoid a run-off.

The BBC's John Simpson in Harare says few people in Zimbabwe even know that Mr Tsvangirai has withdrawn from the race, because the country's official media mention him and the MDC as little as possible.

He adds that it is clear that on Friday, Mr Mugabe will be elected, by however large or small a majority, as the next president of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe's opposition is hoping neighbouring countries will put pressure on President Robert Mugabe to step down. In the past they supported him. How are relations now?

South Africa's President Thabo Mbeki is the key Zimbabwe mediator. He has refused to criticize Robert Mugabe but the ruling ANC and trade unions have urged him to take a stronger line.

Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa has taken the region's strongest line on Zimbabwe. He says Zimbabwe is a regional "embarrassment".

Angola's President Jose Eduardo dos Santos is one of Robert Mugabe's closest allies - they fought colonialism together in the 1970s. He has urged Mr Mugabe to stop the violence.

Botswana has summoned a Zimbabwean envoy to complain about the political violence. It has been supportive of Zimbabwe's opposition.

Namibia is a close ally of Zimbabwe - it, too, is planning to redistribute white-owned farms to black villagers. It has not criticized the election violence.

Mozambique has hosted some white farmers forced from Zimbabwe and is seen as relatively sympathetic to Zimbabwe's opposition.

Tanzania's ruling party has a long history of close ties to Robert Mugabe's Zanu-PF party and its foreign minister has condemned the violence.

DR Congo's President Joseph Kabila is an ally of Robert Mugabe, who sent troops to help his father, Laurent Kabila, fight rebels.

Malawi is seen as neutral. But some 3million people of Malawian origin are in Zimbabwe, mostly farmworkers who have lost their jobs and were often assaulted during farm invasions.

South Africa's President Thabo Mbeki has been leading efforts by Zimbabwe's neighbours in the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) to mediate an end to the crisis.

Mr Mbeki is reported to be trying to arrange a meeting between Mr Mugabe and Mr Tsvangirai for talks on cancelling the election run-off and forming a government of national unity.

Mr Tsvangirai says pressure from the UN and Sadc could force Mr Mugabe to give up power.

"My assessment is that if there is a collective position by all Sadc leaders, that would be sufficient pressure - that voice is essential," he told US National Public Radio.

President Mugabe and Zanu-PF blame the opposition for political violence across the country.

How can Mugabe say the MDC is to blame for the political violence with a straight face ??!

Has any of the idiots at the UN realized Mugabe cares as much what the UN says and does, as Hitler did, or Bush for that matter.

What the world needs is kill Mugabe and his inner circle, right now.

I have a request

This is mostly due to Stephan Harper apologizing for the government fuck up with Residential Schools where Aboriginals have died (some vanished like ghosts -- 100s of unmarked graves, anyone ??!), others were raped, and abused by the church. They all were taught that they, the Aboriginals are sub-human, less than others. Worthless.

From the wiki: ""The Canadian residential school system consisted of a number of schools for Aboriginal children, operated during the 19th and 20th century by churches of various denominations (about sixty per cent by Roman Catholics, and thirty per cent by the United Church of Canada (and its pre-1925 predecessors, Presbyterian, Congregationalist and Methodist churches) and the Anglican Church of Canada) and funded under the Indian Act by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, a branch of the federal government. Similar schools in the United States were known as Indian Boarding Schools.""

So. Less food banks, shelters and churches ran by Christians.

I want to see Wiccan and Pagan versions or Satanist ran onces.

You asked something along the lines of: "How can you save me from myself ?"

I really do not know. I suppose there is a moderate number of people who are a danger to themselves. Dreams, the imagination and subconscious, is not helping matters either.

I'd know .... I too have a circus in my head, bizarre and very dangerous.

Fucking China

05:55 Jun 17 2008
Times Read: 777

I talked to a guy from Zimbabwe at work yesterday.

He updated me on the Chinese ship with weapons for Mugabe. The ship was denied entry in South Africa and Mozambique.

Flashback: April 23 2008

Prime Minister Brown's call for an international arms embargo on Zimbabwe comes after a Chinese ship tried to dock at several African ports to unload a cargo of arms destined for Zimbabwe.

The ship, the An Yue Jiang, has disappeared once again, but is thought to be heading up the west coast of Africa from the Cape of Good Hope. The Lloyds Marine Intelligence Unit (MIU) in London, which plots the location of ships around the world, says it is no longer possible to accurately establish exactly where the vessel is because readings are no longer being taken from its AIS (Automatic Identification System).

The AIS is a location beacon which every ship carries, with a range of 40-50 nautical miles. It is possible that the An Yue Jiang is more than 50 nautical miles from the coast and is therefore not being picked up, or that the AIS has been switched off.

But the DAR / Congo allowed the An Yue Jiang to dock, Mugabe got his WEAPONS.

Mugabe imprisoned his political rival on charges of treason which carries the death penalty.

And no military will show up as peace keepers or for a major civil war, no country is brave enough.

The South African military, likely only one in the region with any real firepower, will never be launched against Mugabe.

War profiteering in Iraq

18:38 Jun 10 2008
Times Read: 793

A BBC investigation estimates that around $23 billion have been lost, stolen or just not properly accounted for in Iraq.

For the first time, the extent to which some private contractors have profited from the conflict and rebuilding has been researched by the BBC's Panorama using US and Iraqi government sources.

A US gagging order is preventing discussion of the allegations.

The order applies to 70 court cases against some of the top US companies.

While George Bush remains in the White House, it is unlikely the gagging orders will be lifted.

To date, no major US contractor faces trial for fraud or mismanagement in Iraq.

The President's Democrat opponents are keeping up the pressure over war profiteering in Iraq.

Henry Waxman who chairs the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform said: "The money that's gone into waste, fraud and abuse under these contracts is just so outrageous, its egregious.

"It may well turn out to be the largest war profiteering in history."

In the run up to the invasion one of the most senior officials in charge of procurement in the Pentagon objected to a contract potentially worth seven billion that was given to Halliburton, a Texan company, which used to be run by Dick Cheney before he became vice-president.

Unusually only Halliburton got to bid - and won.

The search for the missing billions also led the programme to a house in Acton in West London where Hazem Shalaan lived until he was appointed to the new Iraqi government as minister of defense in 2004.

He and his associates siphoned an estimated $1.2 billion out of the ministry.

They bought old military equipment from Poland but claimed for top class weapons.

Meanwhile they diverted money into their own accounts.

Judge Radhi al-Radhi of Iraq's Commission for Public Integrity investigated.

He said: "I believe these people are criminals.

"They failed to rebuild the Ministry of Defence , and as a result the violence and the bloodshed went on and on - the murder of Iraqis and foreigners continues and they bear responsibility."

Mr Shalaan was sentenced to two jail terms but he fled the country.

He said he was innocent and that it was all a plot against him by pro-Iranian MPs in the government.

There is an Interpol arrest out for him but he is on the run - using a private jet to move around the globe.

He stills owns commercial properties in the Marble Arch area of London.
