I bought a robomaid the other day. He's pretty awesome! Amusing too. The first run he spent about half an hour merrily twirling about in circles under my bed. Then I caught him butting up against my PC tower lasciviously. (or you know, because his sensor didn't register properly or something)
Today he got stuck in between the legs of a dining chair and was bunting them over and over again until I lifted the chair off him. Then he managed to make his way under the couch when he was looking for his dock to recharge and got lost. So he sat there and chirped until I found him and rescued him. LOL.
Apart from that he's quite nifty and the ultimate lazy girl accessory. Now all I need is a dishwasher and clothes washer/dryer/folder (and *cough* sexbot *cough*) and I'm all set!
So a whole heap of people yelling out "remembrance" and shit today.
I don't really want to hear it.
Don't get me wrong, I realise what the day is. I remember what happened, the tragedy, all of it.
The main connotation it has for me though is the day I met the abusive, manipulative, violent ex. The one who abused me and landed me in hospital more than once. Who made my life a living hell for 5 long horrible years. Who I had to fight through the courts to get to leave me alone. Who to this day I cannot even think about without feeling irrationally angry and upset.
So no, I don't particularly want to remember that. One of the few times I actually wish my memory issues were more extensive than they are.
So I've been playing an awful lot of Deus Ex: Human Revolution lately (25 hours and counting, and I only got it Tuesday... Yeah, I don't sleep). And while it's a brilliant, brilliant game, there are some humorous moments in it.
And then I saw this, and now that's all I'm gonna think of every time Adam ducks for cover.
On a slightly more serious note, I was sitting thinking last night (while ducked for cover behind a crate waiting for Belltower guards to lose their alarm status, lol) about the game and timelines and whatnot.
The game is set in 2027. That's only 16 years away. The world is still quite similar to our own. If you run around and talk to people, they talk about real world issues. One guy says something along the lines of "Nobody cares about global warming any more. Back when I was growing up, global warming was all it was about!"
Back when he was growing up is NOW. The past they're getting over in the future set game is NOW. Adam Jensen, the hero of the game, is 34 years old in 2027. That means he was born in 1993. That was 18 years ago. 2 years after I finished Grade 12 (yes, I'm old, lol). Adam Jensen, if he were real, is doing his young thing now.
Admittedly I was more than a little sleep deprived (still am) so at the time I found that thought amazing. This futuristic game is starting now. Already we're seeing augmentation/cyborgism along the lines of what the game is proposing. I find this fascinating. I love this kind of thing. If I could, I would totally get myself altered. (Hell, if I could, I'd get myself a whole body transplant, lol.) People are doing this sort of thing now.
But to have new eyes that see properly... and even better... oh yes. A brain that doesn't fuck up on me and over produce its nestling fluid. Please. Augmented memory, so I no longer forget what I was doing yesterday, let alone 10 years ago. Strength and agility and competence, oh my.
Alas, however, in 2027 I'll be the ripe old age of 53. I'll probably be one of those old hobos on the street that Adam talks to, reminiscing about the problems the world used to have.
Sigh.
I will leave you with Adam being awesome (I totally LOVE the Icarus augment. I spam that thing everywhere for the pure awesome!). And sexy. Did I mention sexy? I totally have things for guys with scars and husky voices, I'm telling you.
It felt long. It took me 45 hours to get through. I have a friend who did the full sneaky route and it took her 60 hours. 40 odd hours is fairly average for a game these days.
