Well I just finished my 2nd playthrough and the game as as much if not more awesome this time around. *nods*
There are spoilers below, just so you know.
The Comet Looms
So I didn't realise this the first time I played, but the shooting star is actually a comet, which is foretold in a prophecy, and it gets bigger as the game progresses.
Though this is not Ithlinne's Prophecy from the books and TW1, but the TW2 version which I believe Sabrina utters in her curse as she is burnt at the stake...
Geralt is Awesome
No explanation necessary.
Elven Ruin, or A Study in Perspective
Is this, or is this not, fantastic?
The Comet Looms More
Here we see the comet getting bigger the closer we get to the end of the game.
Yum
In Chapter 3 one of the quests is to get yourself an uber set of armour. This is what happens if you have the armour forged for you while you're wearing the base setting.
...I no complain...
Spiffy New Armour
And here is my spiffy new armour of uber awesomeness!
Owies
Here we have Geralt being munched on by a dragon. Look at the ridiculous amounts of damage reduction...
Dragonslayer
And here we have the dragon's ending. Geralt chose to kill the dragon in this playthrough (because it attacked, and he's a witcher and it's his job to kill monsters, and he had no metaknowledge...). He did give a rather mournful speech afterwards.
Slaying the Kingslayer
I've killed the Kingslayer both times. Sorry, but I don't see any reason why he should survive. He sold himself out. He's no longer a witcher, helping each other on the Path be damned. And supporting Nilfgaard... grr. Humph.
So for this playthrough Geralt had completed TW1 by: following the Order path, romancing Shani, sparing Berengar, saving Adda. In TW2 he followed Roche, slept with Triss and Ves (but refused to commit to either), spared Henselt, turned Anais over to Temeria not Redania, let Sile die, and killed the dragon, amongst other things. SO. MANY. CHOICES!!!! Oh and, he became arm wrestling champion (but didn't follow up on dice or fistfighting).
This is what I love about the Witcher. *nods*
I wanna complete my neutral TW1 playthrough before starting another TW2 game... so should get onto that at some point! LOL.
It is! I have written chapter 8 and am halfway through chapter 9. I'm just waiting on my beta to get back to me on chapter 8 and then I'll be posting it!
More The Witcher 2
01:19 May 23 2011 Times Read: 740
Some more screenies from my 2nd playthrough of the game, which I'm taking much slower than the 1st one.
In this PT I followed Roche, not Iorveth. Consequently, after Flotsam... it's a whole new game. I could have cried, I was that happy. In fact, I still might. *wipes away a tear*
In Foltest's Camp
The view overlooking the camp. The depth is spectacular.
Pirate Geralt Reporting for Duty. Arrr!
Okay I couldn't resist :D
Window
Geralt is sexy in this pic. Just sayin. I think it's the long, slim legs and the lines of the torso. And the sword. I do love me a blade. Mmm.
Regicide
Totally didn't do it.
We All Prefer Happy Endings.
I know how you feel, Geralt, I know how you feel.
Geralt In Chains
Also oddly hot. Well, maybe not so oddly...
Sneaky Half Naked Geralt
Mmm. I'll just... be over here for a while...
Flotsam Harbour
Finally made it to Flotsam!
Framed
At the elven ruins. Iorveth does name them but I can't remember what they're called. I keep thinking Caer'mille, or something like that. Oh well.
Capturing Iorveth
As part of our cunning plan. After here I chose to follow Roche... and suddenly I'm in a whole new game! Brilliant! I love you, CD Projekt!
Scenery
Game divergence. Here we are on Roche's path.
Check out the top right hand corner near the mini map. Shooting star! I totally didn't see that in game!
In Henselt's Camp
Again, the depth of view is stunning.
Ves
I got to romance Ves. With a sex scene and everything.
I totally think the censors don't know what the fuck they were on about. I saw EVERYTHING. And Ves likes to be on top.
Misty Evening
I love Geralt's profile. Just in case you hadn't realised that yet.
There are some abso-bloody-lutely brilliant side quests in Henselt's camp. The Truth Is In Beer quest is fucking hilarious. I literally fell out of my chair and lay wheezing on the ground during this quest, holding my aching stomach muscles from laughing so much. God. I love you, CD Projekt! I may just have to give up my Bioware worship in your favour!!!
TW2 is finished! It didn't take nearly as long as what I thought it would - from about 11am yesterday to about 7pm tonight, so about 32 hours. I will admit though, I cut alot out. I know I missed quests, purely because I got caught up in the action and forgot to do things. And there were some quests that I started and found too hard, so gave up on, lol (the disadvantage of playing a new new game).
Picspam! In chronological order.
Pretty Scenery
Right off the bat everything was just so beautiful in the game. TW was pretty, but the graphics were a bit limited (eg. yellow fog in the swamps, blue fog in the Outskirts, orange fog in the Fields...). This one has no such issues. See my scenery vids :D
King Foltest has a Potty Mouth
In fact the whole game is delightfully potty mouthed, exactly the same as the first one. The very first words Geralt said was "Fuck off" or something very similar. Ahh. Good times.
Half Naked Geralt (or, pan down, damn you, pan down!)
I really love that slim hipped yet muscular look on guys... and scars... and long hair... and sexy golden kitty slit eyes... and scars... mmm... *wipes up drool*
Geralt is Sneaky!
One of the awesome changes with TW2 is the ability to sneak! You can sneak around, hug walls to avoid detection, blow out torches to get rid of light, and whack people over the head to knock them out from behind. It's awesome!
Geralt is Sneaky Again!
More sneaky goodness, coz I love it ^^
Horrible Beastie!
Chapter 1 boss monster, the Kayran (called the tentadrake on the Witcher Wiki).
The difference I found with gameplay in TW2 is you have to plan things in advance. You can't swig a Swallow potion mid combat, for example. Though you can add blade oils at any time. Also, individual monsters require different tactics as an absolute must, whereas in TW you could just whack a general blade oil on and hack in and you'd be right.
Oh and another thing. Those early combat gameplay movies that came out that showed Geralt rolling around the place like one of those bag-o-ferrets toys? Yeah, you actually have to do that. Or you die. A lot.
The One and Only Sex Scene
Thanks to Australia and its censorship laws, this was the only sex scene I got.
Mind you, how they managed to censor out a sex scene with someone else but kept this one in, with clearly defined full front and rear female nudity (including areolae, pubic hair, and labial folds), boggles the mind.
And of course we don't get to see anything of Geralt's, either. Hummmpph.
The Kiss
One of the best rendered video game kiss scenes I've seen in a while, though. Everything matched up perfectly.
More Pretty Scenery
In the forest!
Dragon Fight
Or: how to spend time rolling around on a rooftop trying not to get eaten.
Geralt and Iorveth
For this game I imported my Scoia'tael supporting Geralt from TW, who supported them again this time around. There was no Yaevenn in TW2 (unfortunately, because I liked him). The Scoia'tael leader we get is Iorveth. Who is also nice. Elves are definitely easy on the eyes. If generally grumpy :D
The End
Dun dun dun!!!!
TW3? It could go either way. War with Nilfgaard is on the lines, but then that's what the books are dealing with the entire series. Now it's just ramped back up again. It's possible. Definitely possible.
I ended up taking very few screenies, because I had to concentrate so damn hard on combat and environment that I just plain forgot! Oh well, next playthrough :D
I uploaded some vids! Whee!!!!
Scenery, from early on in the game (like, right at the start):
The view from inside Flotsam, a small village:
I'll do a forest one soon. Because that was so pretty! Need to cut it back a bit though... too long for Youtube.
Re gameplay and graphics - holy fucking deity of choice I am SO glad I upgraded my computer. That's all I am saying. Even with my monster it struggled at times (dragon fight scene, for example). Admittedly I have graphic options on uber high and am using DX11, but still. The rest of the game had absolutely no issues whatsoever.
So. Likes/Dislikes/General Comments.
I didn't like the fact that potions only last a short time. In TW, they can last 24 hours. Which is awesome for Cat (seeing in darkness). In TW2, I bought the extended potion speciality and they were lasting 17 minutes max. Frustrating.
Combat is a lot harder. A LOT. That's not necessarily good or bad, just frustrating in places. Death was a frequent occurrence. I made it less than halfway through the game on Normal mode before I gave up and went back to Easy mode. I have no idea how anyone would manage to do Hard, let alone Insanity. Godmode, perhaps?
Geralt is much more human in this game. You get to see more of his personality, which I quite like.
Much like DA2, TW2 is far more political than its predecessor. TW was about Geralt, what happened to him, and what he did; and just happened to have the stealing Witcher secrets plot tied into it. TW2 is really nothing to do with Geralt, he just happens to be there and gets swept up in it all. So it's not his story at all. A shame really, because Geralt (and Witchers in general) is AWESOME.
I prefer Geralt's face render TW style than TW2 style. TW2 is supposedly set 6 months after TW finishes - it look like he's aged a good 5-10 years. In some shots he's plain jowly. Here he is from TW as a comparison:
Also they got rid of his chest hair. Sadface.
Soundtrack is awesome. Similar to, but not the same as the TW soundtrack, which is great because that's probably my all time favourite game soundtrack ever.
Replayability? Oh yeah definitely. The difference your choices make in TW2 is even more pronounced than in TW. My next run through is going to be anti-Scoia'tael. *nods*
The game was quite short. A lot shorter than I expected. Given that TW is about 50-60 hours long, depending on how you play. That seems to be the trend with games these days though... like DA2.
Okay my brain is a bit fried because as with DA2 I've played this all in one sitting, so that's about all I can offer for this. I might add more later. Or not :D
And now I must go pass out, because I've been up for 2 days straight and it's hitting me. Caio bellas!
