The Empire Of Death - Art In Human Bone -- The episode introduces us to Paul Koudounaris who traveled the world in search of ossuaries and charnel houses. He managed to find more than 70 of these wonderfully elaborate houses of death and photographed them for his book The Empire Of Death. Its a travelogue for the macabre and the curious - but - as a catholic with a great appreciation for the veneration of the dead - i think its much more than that as Paul will explain. His book in not to be missed - it contains not only some of the most striking visuals, in some cases NEVER photographed, but contains some very interesting and in a lot of cases hilarious anecdotes. A few of those anecdotes will be available on our facebook page this month as bonus material. For more information on Paul's travels or to purchase his book - visit - EMPIRE DE LA MORT, Paul's personal website.

"Albert Pinkham Ryder (March 19, 1847 -- March 28, 1917) was an American painter best known for his poetic and moody allegorical works and seascapes, as well as his eccentric personality. While his art shared an emphasis on subtle variations of color with tonalist works of the time, it was unique for accentuating form in a way that some art historians regard as modernist."
This is a video with his works.
Albert Pinkham Ryder
There is a similarity with the name Pickman in my imagination. I think a few of Pinkham`s works could present interest to Lovecraft and it might be one of his sources of inspiration for his work "Pickman`s Model".Of course, it`s just a supposition but I couldn`t help it! Enjoy!
I have discovered this painter while I was wandering through the links from the quite unique Museum Of Vampires from Paris, France. My Bendis made me look into that site so: thank you my dear one!
