Nayme squinted her eyes from the sudden brightness. Josh had turned on the headlights from his truck. "Fucking bitch!" Brian growled and grabbed Lynn's shoulder. She screamed and cried. "You, get the fuck out of the car and get in his truck!" he screamed at Nayme. She nodded her head and tears ran down her cheeks. She got out of Lynn's car and walked to Josh's truck. "Nayme! No!" Lynn screamed. She opened the passenger's door to Josh's truck, got in quietly. She watched Brian shove Lynn into the passenger's seat of her car and he continued to scream at her. Nayme couldn't hear what he was screaming at her as he stared her car. Josh lit a cigarette and stared at Nayme with a slight grin. Nayme wiped her tears away with her sleeve. Josh rolled his window down and stuck his head out to holler at Brian, "Go ahead, I'll follow behind you guys." Brian nodded and drove westward towards the city. Nayme locked eyes with Lynn as Brian drove her car passed Josh's truck. Her eyes were bloodshot and she was in a panic. Josh stared his truck and followed behind Lynn's car. "Well..." he said calmly and exhaled the smoke from his cigarette, "Hope you're comfy. It's gonna be a bit of drive until we get back into town."
"What did she do now...?" Nayme asked him. Her voice was faint and she was still shaking. "Well..." he said with a laugh, "What didn't she do this time would be a better question." Nayme continued to look down at her hands. Fifteen minutes of awkward silence as they drove down the dark highway towards the city. Nayme finally got the nerve to speak up again. "How much trouble will I be in?" she asked and looked at Josh. He took his eyes off the road for a few seconds and looked over at Nayme with a sympathetic look before returning his attention back to the road. He pushed his pack of cigarettes over to her and put her favorite rock station on. "Thank you," she whispered through tears and hardly looked up from her hands that were in her lap. More awkward silence between the two as they drove down the highway. Nayme's heart still raced. Josh's cell phone rang and he quickly turned down the music. Nayme got the chills when she heard the ringtone. Bad Company's Bad Company. It was him. Josh answered the call. "Hey Dude, what's up?" Nayme couldn't make out what the man on the other end of the line was saying to Josh. "She's in the car with me and Lynn's with Brian," said Josh. He went quiet and the man on the phone spoke for a while. "Okay man, we're on the way. It's gonna be about another hour or so before we get there," Josh said and Nayme still struggled to make out what he was telling Josh. "Alright, later." he said and ended the call. Josh sighed and tried to get comfortable. Nayme wanted to ask him what was going on but she didn't dare. "God, I can't wait to get out of this truck, kick back and smoke a bowl!" he said with a huge smile. Nayme sighed and looked out of her window. She knew he was trying to get her mind off what was happening but it wasn't working. The truck raced passed tumble weeds and every now and then she could see mice dash across the road. She wondered what would happen once they got back to the house. She wondered how bad it was going to be for her this time.
