I hadn't yet opened my eyes, but with the rancid stentch of decay surrounding me, I knew that I was no longer the innocent girl I had been not two days ago. How did I become this thing, this... Monster. Yes, monster seems to be the best way to describe myself now.
As I lay here, I start to notice that the smells surrounding me as constantly changing, and I can feel the slightest breeze caress my skin. Is it supposed to feel this way? Knowing what I am, feeling the burn of hunger within my throat, and yet, still not afraid of what I have become?
I'm so confused, and yet at the same time completely enraptured with the fact that I am now no longer human. I am a creature of darkness, an immortal. No longer am I the angel others have always thought I was, I am now decending into the darkness, into the night where I have always felt I truly belonged.
With the knowledge that I am now who I had only dreamed of, I open my eyes. The stars above me shine with a shimmer I had never known possible, and the clouds rolling slowly by show a gentleness I had never noticed before. As I stand I feel my body vibrate with unknown wonder and I cannot help the smile that crosses my lips in knowing that tonight is the night my life begins.
Taking my first steps out the the overgrown sweetgrass, I can't help but feel as though I'm being watched. Though I've never been one to enter into an encounter, I suddenly feel bold, and quickly turn to see the intruder that has entered my solitude.
His skin is almost transparent, a slight blueish tint, and he stares at me with the blackest eyes I have ever known. It's as if he is trying to figure me out, yet can't possibly see the answers that he is searching for, and for once, I am glad that I have so much practice in hiding my emotions.
"Who are you?" I whisper, tasting my words as the flow softly from my lips.
He stares at me, as if trying to decide how to proceed to answer my simple question. Finally he speaks. "I am the one who made you child. I saw you and knew what it was you truly desired. It is because of I that you are what you are now, and it would be wise to learn who it is in this world that you must respect."
I blanch at him wondering how it is that he of all beings could possibly have known that this was the life I had wanted, but decide to ignore those thoughts as I concentrate on the fact that I need to feed.
I turn and stare at him allowing for a moment to let him know that I am not afraid and then softlybow my head. "Sir, I'm hungry and desprately need to feed, please either state your busniess or leave."
He was upon me in a moment. "You shall listen well child." he whispers harshly. "This world is a dangerous place for a young girl like you. You would be wise to find a coven and stay near them. We all look out for our own within reason, but I can tell with you, that could be a possible feat, and one that could cause problems. I suggest you go and feed, but beware of the choices that you make from now on." and with a suddeness like he came he vanished.
I took his words seriously, and started on my way. It would be awhile before he and I crossed paths again, but it didn't escape me that this encounter was the first of many with the messenger.
