Unsure of where I was, I could see the murder in his eyes from across the way. The whistling of the winds blowing in all four corners of the Earth as if the ground cemented my feet. I couldn't move. Shivers, crawled up and down my spine and I could feel the back of my neck hair's raise with a bit of fright. He stood there, across from me. Starring as if he was contemplating on if I would be his next victim. I gulped and wanted to speak, or scream. But my lips wouldn't even part. They were frozen together by the deathly cold weather and the furious winds that glazed past. The tree tops over head swayed violently and the dead leaves scattered upon the Earth moved and danced near my feet. The sound of a "crunch" echoed through the woods as he had surely made a step closer from where he was. His blood red eyes pierced into my soul. I could feel it. I was nearly inches away from death and I started shaking. I closed my eyes and without another sound, I could smell his sweet intoxicating scent right before me. I could feel his warm breathe upon my head as he towered over me. I was too scared to open my eyes. But I knew I had to face him eventually. Unlike a nightmare, I couldn't shake myself awake from this...No matter how much I wished it to be just that. The base of his neckline was before my eyes. I could see him barely breathing. His chest lightly rising and falling. I glanced down to myself subtley...I was in panic mode. I tried to calm myself but it was no use. Hands sweaty and shakey. Legs about to tumble under me. I'm surprised I didn't lose my balance just yet. But the ground had me cemented in place. I glanced up to him, and he was already starring back down to me. His skin held a sort of porcelain look to it. So smooth and sleek. Yet it wasn't deathly pale either. It was simply flawless. A tendril of inky black hair feathered into his face and he grinned so wickedly. A thunderous voice made it's way towards my ears in a rather, smooth, melodic way. The way you would expect the Devil himself to sound. "It isn't safe for you here. Run home, Now". His voice was rather demanding. I gasped a bit by his words as they caught me off by surprise. I was afraid to run. What if he decided to just chase me? I knew I couldn't out run him. He was fast... faster than fast. It was incredible. I starred up at him in silence for another moment, unsure of what to do or what he meant by "it isn't safe for you here". Why did he care? Wasn't he the one I should be worried about anyway? "Go. Do as I say or you shall not see another sunrise again young blood". With his voice raised a bit more than before, I did just that. I turned and started running West. Which was the way I had come when my village had been burned. I could still smell the smoke and ash blowing through the breeze. I stopped for a moment and turned around...with no surprise, he had already fled. I continued running West, following the harsh scents of smoke in the air. I could even see it. The large cloud of dusty grey and black smoke once I past the hill that lead way to our village. Just as I reached the top of the hill that allowed me to see all the way down into the village, images of the dead and clouded things blurred my vision. I was surely the only surviver. The cold leaves and dead grass felt rather comforting under my knees as I knelt down. I could feel the tears swelling up in the corners of my eyes and lightly trail down my face. Sniffle. Sniffle again. My long black hair blew with the wind and swirled around my face. How could this happen? Weren't we so careful of who we let in and who we didn't? After so many years of privacy... How did they find us? I stood up, my legs shakey and I made my way down the hill. I stumbled a few times along the way as it had been an eventful night & morning. Our tents were slashed and burned to the ground. Our treasures had been scattered all over. Blood trickled down into random small rivers as they came from the one's that raised me. I closed my eyes at the sight. I kept walking along the cold Earth & came across a sight that would be etched into my mind forever. An upside down L had been made and stabbed into the ground. They must have taken sometime to built it as it seemed rather sturdy... And hanging from this structure.. Three of the Elders. One, that called out to me...She meant dearly to me as she was like a mother. I fell to my knees and began hyperventalating. In disbelief that this had all happened. I cried my soul out. My screams echoed through the burnt village and through the woods with a Rage. I caressed her cold dead feet as her body hung lifeless above my head. I placed a kiss on the top of her foot and cried. Everything I knew had ended. Everything we stood for, was now deceased. After long moments of sorrow and mourning, I took the three Elders down. It was only right that I give them a proper burial. I started digging. By mid noon, I had many graves dug up. And I began pulling the bodies and lowering them into the graves. Covering them up with the soft soil of the Earth and then placing Stones on top of them. Many of the others had been burned in large piles. I needed to know if there was anyone else alive. Anyone else that heard my screams of pain. "The Sanctuary", I mumbled amongst myself. If there was anyone else that survived the attack, they would have surely fled to the Sanctuary. It was a days travel. Surely. I walked around the village, gathering supplies needed. I was sure I wouldn't return to this site. There was no need... It was all gone and dead now. I found a tent that had been slashed and not yet burned. I crawled in. I found piles of clothes set in a corner. Long black robes. Surely, they more than likely belonged to an Elder. I threw off the dress I had on as it was cold and wet. From being tossed into a small pond earlier. The flash of his hand upon my small arm and throwing me about 7 feet, landing into a small pond flooded my mind. I shook my head as if to shake the image and continued changing. The Robes fit well. A black hooded cloak as it were. I came out of the tent after I was done changing and placed the hood up upon my head. I had a sachel slung around my body as I would be prepared for the travels that lay ahead. Some apples, rare pieces of jewelry that survived the attack and a sharp dagger. The hilt of the dagger engraved with Sacred writings and prayers written by the Elders. I recognized a tent that had been merely destroyed but not yet burnt. It was in the far corner, nearly in isolation from the rest. It was mine. I scurried over and tossed bits and pieces of this and that out of the way. It was still there. A wooden box with a locket attached. The top of the box had carved symbols that were meaningful to our people. The key was still around my neck on a long chain. I placed the box into the sachel as it made a fine fit. I grabbed a few candles and some matches and placed that in the sachel as well. I guess now I would be off towards the Sanctuary. I faced East and starred upon the horizon as the sky held a red tone to it. Blood had shed and the God's would take them to a better place. I looked ahead and followed the horizon as far as my eyes would allow me to. I lowered my head, said a prayer for my family and opened my eyes with a vengence burning in my retna.
