The Server Update

04:38 Nov 10 2016
Times Read: 652

This process is taking so much longer than I originally anticipated. I've moved the VR server 3 times previously, over VR's 12 years. This time though, it's so much different.

I'm rewriting every single VR page. There are so many pages. I'm rewriting both the processing code and the layout code. Sometimes the layout code is actually taking longer to update.

I just finished up a massive overhaul of webcams. The old system was flash-based. The new system is HTML 5, doesn't require flash at all, and works on most mobile devices (iPhone doesn't play nice). So with the new system you can log in via an Android phone or tablet.. and watch cams or even broadcast, right from your phone or tablet.

I started this project on May 22nd. It's been five-and-a-half months and there is still much work to be done. At this point I'm just scrambling, trying to get the new server online before the end of the year. I honestly don't know when I'll be done. I keep going into sections, and the rewrite ends up taking far longer than I originally thought (webcams was suppose to take 2 days. It took over 2 weeks).

What I can say, is this is shaping up to be the most amazing project I have ever worked on. I am so happy and pleased with the new system. It is absolutely amazing. I've also made a number of life changes. VR is and will be at the top of my priority list going forward. It's not just this transition to VR 2.0, I have many more updates planned for after the transition.

We'll get there. You will be so amazed when we arrive. Beta testing coming soon.

My mom always said: slowly but surely, instead of fast and paff lol

Plus its like the good things, wine , whiskey, rhum, cheese, those take times to be good.
