I want to put my previous post into perspective. What does 160,091 lines of code really mean?



Lets assume the average line of code contains 8 words. This is probably an underestimation of my coding, as I tend to compact my coding into long lines, but I feel it is a fair average under-estimate.



That means the coding for VR is 1,280,728 "words".



Now let's compare this to a very large, well known book, War and Peace. Leo Tolstoy's classic has 587,287 words.



This means the VR codebase is more than twice as large as War and Peace.

160,091 Lines of code.

This project has grown so large since I started it in 2004. From the beginning, I am the only one that has ever worked on the code base.



Right now I am going through the 160,091 lines of code. I'm not re-writing every line, but I am going through and at least reading every line... and implementing changes where necessary. The new server is running newer software, so I need to update the VR code base to efficiently interact with it.



When I'm done, I need to do it all over again a second time.. Go through each and every one of the 160,091 lines of code. The second pass will be to mold each and every page into the new default VR layout, which is very different from how you're viewing Vampire Rave right now.



The new layout will be the default, but if you like how Vampire Rave is now, don't worry. You'll still be able to use it via the "Choose Layout" drop down menu. I don't remove VR features. I do my best to only add new ones and always make everything backward compatible.



The new default layout is what's called a responsive layout. The layout changes (on the fly) based on what your viewing resolution is. If you're using a phone it looks one way. A tablet or desktop, a different way. It will even change if you're viewing via desktop, but have the browser window resized small.



Then the third pass... all the updates. Everything from SSL site encryption to Google/Facebook logins to full social media integration.



The scope of this project is large, which is why it's so hard for me to offer a completion date. All I can say is I'm working on it every day. I do my best to log a minimum of 8 hours coding every day. In all honesty, I'll most likely still be working on this project through the end of the year and beyond.
