As I log in I get one that covers my entire screen and freezes it to a giant white rectangle with an "X" box in the top right hand corner and even with pop ups blocked, it still opens another tab.

No, this is one of the ads that shows in the right side margin. Instead of being a vertical ad it shows horizontally and stretches everything out. It pushes the entire center over to the left of the page.

3 Musketeers add does that once in a blue moon for me on the Nook.
I usually have to close my tab and open a new one for it to go away.
