When I was a child, I saw things in my bedroom at night. I shared a room with my sister, who is seven years younger than I. We had a nightlight, so it was never totally dark when we went to bed. I used to see black shadowy figures hovering up in the corners next to the ceiling on the wall opposite my bed. They were small, similar in size to a dwarf, and they had wings. But not the typical feathered wings. More like the leathery bat-type wings seen on demons in many artists' renditions. They had clawish hands, similar to the Gargoyles in the animated TV series. They were always crouching, just watching, like they were waiting for something. I never really saw them clearly -- it was a spiritual image more than physical or mental. And somehow I knew they were malevolent. I could always sense them watching me, and whenever they were around I was afraid to go to sleep. I don't know what they were, or where they came from, or anything else about them. They would not go away until I prayed for God to make them go away and not let them hurt me.

Another unusual experience: When I worked at the Recovery Council (7/98 - 12/03) I found out the Green Building, the old building where the offices used to be, is haunted. Our client files were stored in its basement; we had to go down there if we needed an old file for anything. According to what I was told, at one time it had been a funeral home years ago, possibly in the 1800s. The spirit residing in it is called Sooty, and is the spirit of a black man. No one knew who he was or how he died, but he is not a nice spirit. When I've gone over there for files, I've felt a presence watching me, getting angrier and angrier the longer I stayed in the basement. When I came upstairs, it was like I no longer was in control and I couldn't get out of the building fast enough. And I could feel him right behind me, gaining on me, like he was reaching out to grab me, but I made it to the door and outside right before he did. My friend who still works there has seen things move and fly around seemingly of their own accord. Another time I went into that building in the middle of summer. It was in the 90s outside, and the air conditioner had not been turned on in the building. It was sweltering inside; it must have been close to 100 or more. There is a little passage connecting the 2 halves of the building, with a little room off to the side; they are directly over the boiler room and furnace downstairs. When I entered the passage to go to the other side, it was cold as ice. It was cold enough I got goosebumps. That's the only time I've ever felt a "cold spot" as talked about in popular paranormal research. I don't know what any of this means.
