Struck by two sensational news stories this week. The most spectacular is the one about 29-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugards who was kidnapped when she was only 11.
The good news is she's still alive, although for 18 years she was held captive by a religious zealot. According to this article emotionally she is still at the 11-year-old level. How that is possible after two children, I'm not sure. Dugard
The other story is about the 13-year-old girl who thinks she has the knowledge, physical stamina, and psychological fortitude to sail around the world solo for two years. She's being preventing from doing so not by her parents, but by the courts. Sail
Two completely different stories, and I can't shake them from my mind.
What do you think about their stories?

I read the first story a couple of days ago, how very sad. Stunting of emotional development occurs quite often in these such cases, I think it is a survival mechanism.
HOLY CRAP about 13yr old girl.....are her parents nuts.. I think they should of said no, fancy letting her go to court to get permission. She is far too young, at 13 I was just starting to go to the movies without my parents.
