I was outside and noticed a group of black vultures centered on the area. At first it looked like they were hunting but then I realized some of them were but mostly they were eating something just out of my line of sight.
At about that time I saw a black cat run across the road from the field adjacent the feeding/hunting scene. It crossed cautiously, which made me nervous because this morning the very same cat was being followed by a tuxedo cat who is called Grandkid's Best Friend. He was born a stray, lives as a stray but occasionally comes inside for food and sleep. The kid inadvertently named him when she was two and would pick him up, he was a kitten, and call him her best friend. The statement stuck and became a title.
Anyway, I was concerned because when he died she will be upset in a way that death has never upset her before. Naturally I had to check. I walked down the driveway and crossed the road; very conscious of 8 sets of eyes watching me. I approached the animal in the road, already aware that the fur was not tuxedo fur but much lighter, possibly brown or orange. I really needed to make an ID.
It was a rabbit, pretty big one too.
Grandkid came over last night, I decided to call my mom because I knew she would be home and the little kid has been wanting to talk to her great grandma.
We were watching the ball drop and my mom was watching a movie. She asked why we were watching a news event and I told her that the ball drop was on because it was a current event.
I do this. The kid watches some cartoons and kids movies but I also put on current events, music, documentaries and other stuff. She needs to know the world is not all Paw Patrol and Octonauts.
