Wow, Really?!!

It tickled me to see the Catholic Church is keeping up to date with their latest idea, an app that allows you to directly make a confession whilst on the go. This is of course for that busy person who can’t make a traditional confession. I will now see how far they get with this and if they will introduce a ‘mass’ through your mobile phone for those who fear crowds.

My own faith (Judaism) unfortunately would never condone an app for The Sabbath as it would mean using electrics or a battery which is a no no.

I’m not a good Jew, I fell by the gutter long ago, that’s not to say I’m not religious, I still have a strong Jewish identity. I’m sure my G-d will understand.

As this post is on the theme of religion I thought I’d share this lovely song with you. It’s sung at the beginning of Shabbat, around the festive table. It imbues an otherwise ordinary meal with the Sabbath sanctity. According to tradition, two angels enter our homes each Friday night to bless the family that celebrates the Shabbat properly. We welcome them with Shalom Aleichem.

The song has gone a long way from being a standard prayer and top singers have recorded it and added and shaped it. It now has a much larger meaning as we pray the angels will watch over not just our Sabbath table but all Israel and the middle east and show us the path to everlasting peace.

This is one of my favourite versions and I might add that Barbra Streisand

also does a mean version (but slower) too.

This is the English translation for those that have heard it and ever wondered what it meant.

Peace unto you, ministering angels, messengers of the Most High, of the supreme King of kings, the Holy One, blessed be He.

May your coming be in peace angels of peace, messengers of the Most High, of the supreme King of kings, the Holy one, blessed be He.

Bless me with peace, angels of peace, messengers of the Most High, of the supreme King of kings, the Holy one, blessed be He.

May your departure be in peace, angels of peace, messengers of the Most High, of the supreme King of kings, the Holy one, blessed be He.

For He will instruct His angels in your behalf, to guard you in all your ways. The Lord will guard your going and your coming from now and for all time.

The app is confusing a lot of people and sounds like a joke but it isn't. You don't confess to the app. It's material to help prepare the penitent for confession. It just helps you get your stuff together so you go to confess and not forget anything.

This day and age- many people haven't confessed since their first confession as a child, so they are not comfortable with the protocol and don't remember anything about it. This app is nothing more than an electronic leaflet that explains what it's about.

The app in iTunes states: ...step-by-step guide to the sacrament, the app invites Cathoics to prayerfully prepare for and participate in the Rite of Penance.

*

For the argument that may come of this from Christians that aren't Catholic-

People will say, "Why do I need to go tell a human, God is the only one that matters!" Priests are here to be that tangible, face of God that reinforce God's law and love- they say we are forgiven on God's behalf and it becomes real for us in a way that holding things inside does not. Of course God is the one that forgives, and God is the one that truly knows our hearts- but confessing *outloud* is a powerful thing. Even simply going through motions is important. Not taking the steps does nothing for us.

Confession releases burdens from people as well as shows ownership.

This app is no different than all the other educational apps out there. That's all it is. No one confesses to it. That would indeed be ridiculous. The rumor that has passed around about it was intended to make it look exactly like that.

I loved the beautiful rendition. Stabb and I both listened to it while in the Center and offering our service to the Lord. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Being Human…

He meets our hero outside a hospital… and walking up to Mitchell says,

“I’m like you”, he says in a very sinister way, ‘’a brother of the blood …. My names Graham’’!

Our resident ghost goes on to explain to another ghost........

"We’re all a bit different in this household …

‘’how’d you mean?’’

well I’m a ghost, Mitchell’s a vampire and Nina and George are werewolves ….

‘’ Fuck Off"!!.... in a lovely Welsh accent!
