While slasher is definitely a satisfying type of horror, it feels like the fast food of the genre. It can be terrifying but, once your brain quits being quite so squeamish, it doesn't stick with you.
Psychological horror, on the other hand, is much more fun. I find I can only watch a few movies in this genre a year because it really sticks with me. Of course the moment I sit down to write this, examples escape me...
Like Scream vs. Gerald's Game. Gerald's Game was conceptually horrifying to me and I haven't watched it again. But Scream is a yearly tradition.
