Today, without any apparent reason, I had to think about the fact that some romantic nature lovers may not even know how cruel and pitiless nature actually is.
Of course, one hardly sees this in nature "pacified" by man. Not only the big predators can be dangerous, there are also deadly snakes and insects.

I like being in nature and I don't normally do anything threatening, but I can think of an attack by horseflies that I only escaped by running. And a whole swarm followed me. Luckily I was able to run away quickly on a paved path.
If that had happened to me on one of my moor hikes, it could have ended badly.
Swarms of wasps have attacked me several times, but this was comparatively harmless.
