...when the Doctor dies at Trenzalore, Gallifrey will fall No More...

At the end of Wednesday night I found myself believing I had mislaid my best pair of reactolite reading glasses, which led to a lecture from Father on the state of my room, which was a tad unfair, as I’d had a kinda extreme sort of day. I had risen early so as to be ready to go out to the doctors, for a spiro-wotsit test, in regard of the COPD and, as a minor storm had raged through the night I’d stayed awake thinking of the exam.

Needless to say, when it came to the test I’d been a tad stressed, which had not helped me exhale, at all. Anyway, after using a blue-ventilator I’d acquired from the chemist I’d finished the test to the Sister’s satisfaction, the wound my way home, taking some photos as the light was so good. And I’d cooked a chicken casserole, with a rich garlic tomato base for tea, before goin on the p.c. awhile.

Barry had called and we’d watched the first half of ‘Mortal Instruments: City OF Bones’, which he seemed to rate as highly as I do, so when he left before it ended I lent him a copy of the film to watch at home. Well, once Barry had left I decided to do something that Karl had shown me how to, when I noticed a particular video I wanted was on Youtube, an advertisement for the Doctor Who Anniversary Special, all in CGI imagery. To do as intended I had downloaded jdownloader and then Googled ‘how to’ do as I intended.

Well, getting rid of the add-ons like the toolbar was alright, but there had to be something to do with the missing plug-in’s, or the unsuccessful restart, but my machine froze and, froze good style. And, I’d a lot I’d wanted to do on the p.c.

After a while, instead of chockering my bonce, I had decided to press the start button on the tower for thirty seconds, force a shutdown and go to bed after a munch; to write, while I then watched the end of ‘Mortal Instruments: City OF Bones’, hoping that Karl might be good enough to help me acquire what I want, as his machine successfully runs the damn programme, while something went seriously wrong, for me…

Come Friday morning I woke early, to go to the dentist. I’d dwelled on the morning prior to sleep, so woke a tad hyper and, that had stayed with me as I walked to the dentist. Well, he had been as gentle as could be, explaining every action, which unfortunately I knew of and expected, so had squeezed the rubber ball he’d given me very tightly indeed. The day itself was pleasant as I left the dentists, with a chill to the air. I had slept the afternoon away and woke refreshed, but less hyper. Come the evening and the anaesthetic had worn off the mouth was sore, particularly where the needles had been…. And… looking inna mirror I figure that I now have the teeth of a horse, all at the front, ahem… with none at the side…

Then there was the Derby, the local match ‘tween Liverpool and Everton on Saturday. Barry and I had gone travelling, arriving in Frodsham in time to watch the second half at the Choldmondly Arms [or, something like that]. The match had been fraught, with action a-plenty, but we’d left before the end, as Liverpool had ceased trying and seemed to be coasting. Needless to say, it was as we trundled on with the way of our Saturday, we heard the final score was three all. And, we got back to mine in time for cheese on toast, preceded by a bowl of vegetable soup. Then come evening I lay down to rest my knees awhile, before rising to watch the fiftieth anniversary of a show so iconic it changed the face of Google, Doctor Who. The show had been good, with enough references to the past for an old fogey like me to revel in. Then once it was over, I’d turned over to BBC3 and watched the ‘aftershow party’, seeing the faces of many companions I’ve seen close to, at the conventions I’ve been to thanks Erica, a very special person; Ace, Leela and Jamie and, boy-oh-boy, Katy Manning still has magnificent pins! Anyway… having sat down to revel in my own televisual treat, I’m now looking forward to The Doctor’s next adventure, which once again takes him to where he will lie in death, the famed planet of Trenzalore…“Ah when the Doctor dies at Trenzalore, Gallifrey will fall No More.”

There I go again, trying to write the script…

Well, Dad being Dad...

I went to sign on Thursday, my first time after leaving the work functional skills course I’d been placed on, that hadn’t provided the two qualifications I’d sought and been told I’d acquire on said course. Needless to say, the only thing she’d wanted to know is how many actions had I filled in since such and such a date, being unaware when I actually finished the course. When I mentioned the first-aid and health and safety I’d been lied to about by the college I was told to take it up with the manager, in a letter. I already had. I had been also quizzed as to how many jobs I’d applied to on their site I’d said none, as I’d just left their functional skills course and, cannot currently find any suitable vacancies to apply for anyway. That said, I still have issues with the site that has partnered with the government, Monster.co.uk from the past, as they have passed on my information on an occasion. That said, as reminded, I have to use the site, so she tick-boxed several vacancies, [as required, I surmise] then told me to see which I could apply for. The reason I’d not looked further than I already had as two-thirds of the vacancies on the site are related to the agency Monster.co.uk

Typically, on one of the vacancies allocated to my ‘bank’ were suitable for me to look at, as the other ‘support’ vacancies allocated involved lifted, which my spine won’t allow. Heck, if the vacancies were there that were within any of about five fields, then I’m the one who would be applying, with said post being tick-boxed to my ‘account’ as happened on Thursday, as I had been reminded yet again, I have to use their site.

And, the other day I watched my Dad playing with the hose that connects with our Henry the Hoover, our vacuum machine. Anyway, it seems that the circlip around the end has broken and was missing. Well, Dad being Dad, he sat there awhile puzzling on the problem then disappeared into the garage, for several hours. Well, come the afternoon and a cup of tea I noted that he’d found an answer that would ensure it’d do the job, through my lifetime. It’d been well-cool to note that “Mister Fix-it” as we used to call Dad, could still do as he has.

Then a few nights later as I’m getting ready to write, late on, Dad rose torch in hand, to bring the bin in, having gone to bed with too much on his mind and getting a tad confused upon waking after a little sleep, Well, it hadn’t taken too much to re-orientate him. But, having cared for Gran through her dementia, I do get wary and worry myself, at times… Then again, while he’s awake, my eighty-six year old Dad done more than most forty years olds do in a night, then he sleeps, or ties to that is…

...the one in a casing of gold.

I had a real runaround Sunday with Barry on a wet, wet day, travelling to a shoe-store in the middle of green hills, with his son and grandson. The store had not been as big as Barry had recalled, but still far bigger than most stores I’ve seen and, I had been able to find a pair of workers steel-toe cap boots that did not cost a lot. And… Eating in the café had been fun or should that be, ‘interesting.’ Chris had got Oliver into a highchair to eat with us, but had given him a small spoonful of his rich-looking Black Forest Gateau after being pestered. Needless to say, having tasted the cake, Oliver had not been at all interested in his children’s meal of chicken nuggets, chips and baked beans. As Chris had admitted a little later it had been an ‘epic fail.’ Anyway… I was late getting to class on Monday, after another rotten night. And truth be told, I’d nor been in a hurry to get to class. Well needless to say, sods law set in and something had occurred that led me to wish I’d kept to my ‘normal’ schedule. While we were in Maths dash English class, one of the girls who lives near me and gets the same bus told me that Beverly had got on, nodded to my classmate and smiled, a little. Hells teeth, I cannot get my head round her doing that. Then again, she followed her own way, then and now, it would seem…Come Tuesday Alex called round, with the results of his filming himself doing king fu, with his new camera: the one that’s a newer and better version of mine, the Olympus. He had been filing himself doing some Wu Shu Kung Fu, so I’d illustrated what could be done with the clips and, I’d made a film for him, to go on dailymotion. He’d liked what I’d made.

Come Thursday I attended a mock interview, dressing smart and ready to play the role that college wanted. And then I found my interviewer would be my old boss Lesley and all concerns were gone. And, I even got some useful feedback from the event. It seems I have a problem seeing my ‘qualities’; skills, yes; but not qualities, like helpful and caring…. Well, come the evening I went to the ‘Pool and the voluntary work, as enough work had been done on the church for us to open up to provide meals. While there I had been reminded, [if reminder had been needed] just how judgemental towards the unemployed the woman is who does the cooking, at present. This time I’d found her snide comments just too much so told her not to talk to me. When she had a second time, I’d said I meant it… She had retorted, “I’m more than happy with that.” To which I had said, I know… I left the church knowing a few tums had been filled.

On Friday, the last day of the course, I’d had a mock interview, with my old boss as it happens. During the talk, which had mostly been informal, I’d spoken of our groups replacement tutor Ravi, a little woman who considered my remarks about the way policeman have got shorter to be heightist. I told her I thought she was projecting and that we’re too revisionist with that came before. Well, once over, I decided to walk to Birkenhead from Wallasey, because I still can…

Come the weekend I had ‘celebrated’ my 54th birthday with Barry and we had a run out to New Brighton, enjoyed a walk on the beach and took photo, thankful the weather was good and the light perfect for photos. I’d had a good day… tiring, but good. And, I keep reminding myself that papers recently said that 54 was the new middle-age… sounds good to me.

Monday had been the last of the Maths dash English and, although I’ll miss many things about the course etc, I won’t miss the travelling, it’s taken it out of my lower back goodstyle, what with three connections.

Well I had meant to enjoy a long lie-in to ease the ‘old’ joints, as I felt I needed; then the phone rang. It’d been the dentist’s receptionist; bringing forward an appointment that I had with my dentist. I walked there, filled with trepidation, only to hear what I’d half-expected to; my last biting tooth, the one in a casing of gold.

All I can is that after the 22nd of November I’ll be looking to weigh the tooth in…

a break from the inanities of Life, right Now…

02:06 Nov 03 2013

Awhile back I contacted BT as the adaptor for my modem was shot and, they insisted that they could not change just it, so they changed the while thing, then complained when I didn’t send the old one back, after not sending me what I’d need to post it.

Well, the other day the new modem wouldn’t connect up to the net, for hours. Well, eventually I decided to try something I had done once before with the ‘new’ modem that had preceded this one. I dug into the cupboard and reached for one of my last small grey modems, that are not a BT Hub. I immediately had connectivity to the Net.

Yes, there’s a moral there somewhere but I don’t know what it is.

Anyway, the weather’s definitely changed: the wind and the rain has arrived and my knees have been reminding me of it. That said, the travelling to and from the college has not been good for my back either. I’m enjoying my weekends out and about with Barry though and have recently encountered another old friend, Alex. While we’ve been out amongst the green we sat and talked spiritual stuff, covering subjects that few actually think of, let alone talk about.

Aye, I might have the odd ache or two but, I’ve a lot to do and, that’s satisfying…

As there was no college Dad and I had gone shopping on Friday instead of Saturday, as we’ve been doing since I started college. On Saturday Barry had called round and he and I had gone travelling. We went to Walkdan, where his son lives, to take his grandson’s car-seat back, after it had been left there. So as we’d been running late, Barry set aside his plans to get boots and we’d gone to Ellesmere Port, to pick up a few odds and sods for Dad and fulfil Barry’s own list. Well, as we went round I began to realise just how much I’d been enjoying sharing moments of eye-contact and intimacy with every female in the Port that we pass on our regular shops at the weekend, bar the woman with purple hair and bunches, with rings in her lower lip. Heck, I even had the gumtion to ask the girl in the market at the food stall what the Rumanian for ‘Hello’ was and, then ask her what her name was. And, I’d got the answers to both. Then in the car on our return to mine I queried myself as to why I’d felt quite so high. And, I’d come up with the realization of my own potential. Come the evening the computer got the attention it warranted, while I watched the first two episodes of ‘The Tomorrow People’ and another ‘Crow’ film before writing awhile and finally bed.

And, this commuting is killing my lower back, yet thanks to my weekends it’s as if I have something to look forward to, like travelling the other weekend and parking up on one of the back roads, with a view across Elton to the left, the Welsh hills ahead and, to the left some fine looking pasture land. And, just as we’d been discussing the photo I’d wanted, of ‘that view’, as we had seen it on other occasions during the year, a car drove passed and parked nearby, finding a large deep puddle as it did so. Now, I’d seen several follow a similar route and not one got Barry’s car as he had, so I’m not surprised at Barry for being so damn annoyed. Little moments like that and, the young blonde at Meaney’s, or Elena from the market, for whom I’m trying to learn a little Romanian; they all make my weekends something special, which is well-needed when I learn of the project not rising again, perhaps; or having to live amongst the melee created by the two systems I’m caught between, that of the dole and, that of the college that I’m attending. And although I am trying to make the best of things, yet another Health and Social Studies course was not what I’d intended, when I sought out the qualifications I want. One bright light for me was when I’d learned that my Maths is not as bad as I had thought it was. I guess another is the camaraderie shared with the classmates remaining from that first day’s induction. Sometimes it is as though it’s us against them, with them being the dole, college and, our current ‘tutor’ who treats us as though we were at least fourteen. And as one may imagine, I find that her doing that is more than a little irritating, to the extreme. That said, one way or another I’m damn sure I’ll wreak some form of polite vengeance on her and her colleague at The Pyramids, who acted like such an ass, that first day of induction telling us that the college was more important than the dole, who pay our money and gives us sanctions, if we don’t abide by their rules. All of that brings me back to the fact that I enjoy my weekends, as a break from the inanities of Life, right Now…
