...to lie back on my bed, rest my knees and watch the new episode of ‘Doctor Who.’

00:14 Mar 31 2013
Times Read: 648

I was up early Saturday morning, ready to go traveling. Barry called just before ten with Mike, his nephew and, ‘we were off,’ traveling to Raby Mere first; just to show it to Mike. It was sunny, with a blue sky and got warmer through the day. We hit the coast road, only using the motorway when needed. First we went to Talacre, sometimes called the ‘The Liverpool Riviera’, having stopped off for a fied egg ‘tween toast and tea; then Prestatyn, Frith and finally Ryhll. The drive had been good, the weather pleasant and there’d been hassle free traffic, both there and back. That said, come the evening, it was pleasant to lie back on my bed, rest my knees and watch the new episode of ‘Doctor Who.’

"...wot, no cards?"

01:27 Mar 29 2013
Times Read: 650

After Thursday’s housework I settled down to write some letters, including one to my M.P. as I feel disappointed by my work programme provider and, the fact that I seem to be ‘parked’. Well, after that I needed fresh air and, a few stamps. There was a blue sky, some sun and, a distinct chill in the air, as I left the house. I got to Azda, eventually, then went directly to where I needed to go. I had got my DVD blanks, then went to the counter. An assistant had come over to serve me and reminded me, “Cash only… can’t take cards.” “Well, that’s alright by me,” I’d responded, as the tall bottle-blonde in blue-jeans behind me, with a half-full shopping-trolley showed panic on her face. “They’re not taking them on any of the tills?” She’d asked anxiously. “No…” she’s been told. And, seeing her crestfallen face, I got to thinking of the troubles in Cyprus, where not being able to use a credit or a debit card is the least of their worries…

... to live where I do!

15:51 Mar 27 2013
Times Read: 655

Well, I'm still not sleeping too well and, mostly 'coz I'm waiting to hear Dad's unwanted visitors return; and as I feeling run-down still, it's not helpmg my recovery. Anyway, that said... At the weekend I ate a chocolate, that bit back, as it were, removing a damn large portion of tooth with it. Thankfully, I had not swallowed the piece of tooth, but before housework on Monday I phoned the dentist and got an appointment for Tuesday at 4:45 and, after a quick walk, was seen to on time; then left after less than ten minutes had passed. Granted, I'd not had an injection for the filling, but it hadn't really been needed. And hey, where else would one get seen to so quickly, but the dear of U.K and the NHS. Heck, sometimes, just sometimes... I figure, I'm really fortunate to live where I do!

come the weekend...

01:40 Mar 26 2013
Times Read: 659

Come the weekend Barry came round and did a runaround with me. Normally we drive somewhere pleasant and, yet this time somewhere pleasant was a lump of cheese plus the other half of the household shop that I hadn't been able to manage. As we left Azda with munchies to eat on the way home, I turned to Barry and told him: "I've come to the realization why I start off the week heavier than I am at the end of the week." And it was as simple as my eats while travelling with Barry at a weekend and, with the ammount of walking I do, I get back to my target weight by the end of the week. "Just in time for next time," Barry had grinned at my observation...

On Monday morning, I made the Dad’s bed, observing that since the break-in Dad has a left-hand dagger at his bedside. I had a second coffee that saw Dad look out the front window to note that the gutter was bowing under the weight that had formed there, as the snow had thawed, then frozen and thawed, then frozen again. He had gone out, cleared what he could, then returned to finish off the housework. He'd been finishing off the front room, then come through to my room, opened the door and told me of the avalanche he'd just heard. It transpired that a whole sheet of snow just slid of; effectively an avalanche. Dad had then finished the housework and, as I'd looked out at blue-sky as he'd re-entered the home after emptying the hoover I'd made him a cup of tea, which I figured he had earned... Later, as I reviewed the photo’s I took of him clearing the roof, I noticed… just how much snow had fallen onto his head. So, that’s his reason for wearing a cap!?!

Anyway...

02:04 Mar 24 2013
Times Read: 665

British weather is changeable to the extreme: Wth that in mind, I had mixed up a few suitable describing words to illustrate the current weather of the day.

Ie: mist & drizzle = mizzle

It can be described in exactly the same manner as snow. And, speaking of snow…

Ie: snow & hail = snail, as ‘it snailed today.’

Anyway...

After helping Dad a little during a stressful Thursday, I finished a story, watched an episode of ‘The Walking Dead’, then got ready to go to the project. It was two stops into the journey when things went awry, on a cold, windy night. The train had stopped, with the explanation that British Transport Police were currently after a trespasser on the line at Green Lane, the station before the Liverpool Loop. And, just as I’d begun to write of the delay, the train began to move. Unfortunately any celebrations I might have made would have been presumptuous, as the train had stopped at the next station, for what had seemed ages: with the same apology and explanation concerning the trespasser several times. Well, finally the train had started up again, only to go two stations before stopping again. And still I had continued to write… And yes, eventually the train got to Liverpool, passing many people waiting oin the stations opposite, which showed how long the delays had been, from those who were there and, had missed several trains. Heck, when we got there, those boarding had been greeted by ‘the electronic display is wring, this is not going to Chester, but stopping at Liverpool Central, because of late-running. And then, I’d the walk up the hill to face, on a cold windy night.

Yet that said, on a cold windy night, after nearly fifteen years, I still do as I do, ‘coz I like to think we do actually meet a need, for quite a few people… Friday morning I woke with achy limbs, after a cold night and people being fed; 'an as I opened the curtains, I saw a world of white. It had snowed, again; quite thickly at that. Well, Friday being Friday, there'd been shopping to do and, with the snow on the ground, I knew Dad would not want to take the car out; so I went shopping, for our essential fuit and vegetables. Once I'd got the fresh produce I got some tins, that I had the cash for and could carry. Needless to say, come the evening I was shattered and, lay down to rest my knees, waking hours later and, I still had achy knees...

'For Sale' signs on Brookhurst Avenue...

14:40 Mar 20 2013
Times Read: 672

I awoke on Tuesdaystill feeling cloggy: so that was a third course of anitbiotics that didn't work, for me. So when I finally got ready to go out I was determined to enjoy the fresh air and, I had; even though it was a grey sky mizzly day, as I went for my Dad's meds, onion and, The Radio Times. Granted, I'd had to stop and hold up someone's garden wall awhile. As I had held it up, a passing fellow with a fellow with a fifteen week old Shitzu had asked me if I was alright and, I had been after a moment or so's rest. Anyway, come the afternoon I'd had a bath and then made tea for Dad and myself, feeling irked when he'd complained yet again at the variety of foodstuff's. The irkness had passed, after a rest and, we'd watched a documentary s...together. Later, I watched '500 mph Storm', starring Caspar Van Dien, some pretty good CGI and some tense moments. I eventually went to bed, after acquiring the latest episodes of 'The Following' and 'Once Upon A Time.' Come Wednesday I woke bleary-eyed, after a fitful sleep I rose to go shopping with Dad. On the way to Ellesmere Port I had explained what my word mizzle meant, for me; a combination of mist and and drizzle, which suited the day, yet again. On the way we had looked forward to the cup of tea we would have on our return home and, as usual we counted the 'For Sale' signs on Brookhurst Avenue. "There's less," I had noted. "Aye," Dad had reminded me, "but some of those had been on the market since before Mum died." Well, that's over three and a half years, I had pointed out, which is how long it's taken for those properties to sell.

the lack of the arms...

00:02 Mar 19 2013
Times Read: 674

I haven’t been sleeping well, with a heavy dose of paranoia denying me the arms of Morpheus. That said, I have plodded on with my given routine and, even got to do some work on the front lawn on a blue-sky Monday, after Dad and I had done the housework.

Oh, I’ve done some creative stuff I, pleased of, but I’m feeling so tired all the time and now, all I want to do is have a good night sleep. And to that end, I do wish Dad would invest in a new front door.

The doctor’s news

01:00 Mar 16 2013
Times Read: 694

The doctor’s news on Tuesday hit me badly: ‘your hip xray shows a little wear and tear… but, your lower back is what’s causing the lip’ had been the shorthand, of less than ten minutes of detail. And, as I say, I hadn’t dealt with It well; though, I did get another course of antibiotics though, to help combat the sinusitis, which just seems to linger. It’s my third now. Anyway… I was feeling low come Thursday, but went to voluntary work; which had been tiring. And, come Friday afternoon, after shopping, I’d finally some real ‘me time’, just lying back on my bed, curtains closed and, it ws sunny outside, as I played The Carpenters, recalling the seventies… all comfy cosy.

Well needless to say...

00:27 Mar 11 2013
Times Read: 714

Well needless to say, I had not slept well and, throughout the night I was listening for my Dad’s unwanted visitors to return. So, when I rose after an hour or so’s sleep, to go shopping with Dad, I had been well shattered. Once home I’d answered a call from the police, with a PC telling me what they could do for my Dad. Much later, I had taken a second call from the police and, this time an inspector. He had told me what they couldn’t do, identify the burglars: which had not been surprising to me, after all they had no fingerprits. All I can say is that Dad was fortunate, as he hadn't got hurt. Anyway... Come the evening Barry had called, for awhile. Once he had left I sat to watch ‘Crash Of The Titans,’ the 2010 film, as I sat to type of the way of the day. The film had been a modern take on the old Ray Harryhausen films, I’d liked so much as a child; and thankfully, the CGI was an overkill, as it replaced the stop-motion I’d admired, so much they acted to prompt me to make some animated films of my own. And, the actor playing Perseus Sam Worthington was excellent, reminding somewhat at time’s of Jason Bourne, in full-on action man mode.

Early Saturday morning I rose, after a reasonable sleep. And, I got to speak to Mandy on the phone, to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Mandy, which I’d appreciated. A little later Barry called and we went a drive, on well-grey sky day, with sporadic drizzle. Our first stop had been Bury Market, which I do think is one of the finest markets ever; then onto the Radcliffe Archimedes Screw, which we’ve intended to see for ages, because of my interest in water screw technology. Then Barry had driven us through some beautiful countryside, littered with remnants of the North’s Industrial Past. And, we had parked on the road opposite Fred Dibnah’s house, which as Barry pointed out, has a pithead in the back, which links up to the graveyard. All-in-all, I have to say, I almost wish I’d gone on the tour round his place, as it looked very interesting. That said, I got photos of what I’d seen of the place and, that was good. From there we had driven what seemed a pretty fair distance, while there was a more than fair-sized traffic-jam on the other side of the darn motorway, to an area called Blackrod and part of the late Lord Lever’s estate, the vast grounds of woodlands, a lake; a long pathway leading to the lake with Lord Lever’s Folly built to overlook it, a castle ruin. I had thought the ruin, called Liverpool Castle looked awesome and Barry and I had toured the place all over, including inside one of the walls, that had an arrow-slit window and, an excellent view of the lake. It’d been a fantastic place and, I’m pleased to have seen it. Yet, time had been running out and, I had toasted cheese to cook, for tea. Come the evening I’d had to rest my knees, which wasn’t really surprising, after all the walking I’d done during the day. After I rose and made Dad’s drink, I wrote as I watched ‘Insidious’ and then ‘Limitless,’ which had held me quite spellbound, till the early morning.

...wrong house?

02:15 Mar 08 2013
Times Read: 722

Come Thursday morning I was up at 8:00, to get ready and out and, head for the village and the Wirral Sensory Centre, the shop where I go test food. This time I’d been testing cod on butter sauce, Belgium chocolate mousse and finished with more mints. Then I’d got paid, as I’d left. Once home I went on the PC awhile, before leaving home again, to go sign on. And, once more I’d been reminded of how immediate their access is to any data I input on their new Jobmatch site, when the staff member I saw began asking me about notes I had left there on my last visit. Anyway… I did rest a short while, again before the PC, until it was time to go to voluntary work. And the night was dank and dreary and only moderately busy and, I did get to see the fellow ho got hit the previous week. It seemed he had got broken ribs and nose and, I do wonder what might have happened if I’d not intervened. And yeah… talking of intervening: I got home to find that Dad had intervened, on a burglary, at our home. It seems that he’d gone into the kitchen after hearing a loud noise, to encounter two men who brushed passed him, one saying, 'wrong house'. They’d popped the front door lock and, waited in the kitchen, for about three minutes. And when I got home, he told me what happened and, that he’d already had the police in. Needless to say, when he went to bed, I was still well-hyper… so I’d typed awhile, as I’d watched ‘Battlefield L.A.’

86?

00:57 Mar 06 2013
Times Read: 724

It'd been a pretty good weekend and Monday, it got better still, after my housework.

On the weekend, I'd been out with Barry and at the Azda shopping, after which we went roundabout, looking for a card and, small thingie, for Dad's birthday. While we had been trawling, Barry took me to a second-hand store and lent me the coin for a camera, a pretty good one, 'cept it lacks a lead to connect it to a pc and, it has a strange fitting. Well, as it transpires, I can utilise an older camera, to access the memory card and thus any pictures it take, which is a suitable work round, till I can get the lead that I need. And, I called on Mike from Bromborough, who can acquire stuff I find a tad difficult and, he'd put together a disc for me of three films I've been seeking for quite a while, 'The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc Sec', 'Batman Rises' and one I'd really had difficulties obtaining, in English, 'Abraham Lincloln: Vampire Hunter' and, though the qualities a tad pixelated, it's a delight to have them to watch. Anyway, after tea on Monday these smartly dressed young men called at the front door. The one at the front had shown his ADT I.D. "The only ADT I know are the burglar alarm people," I'd told him. And, he'd nodded, preparing to show me his bumf, until I started prattling on about thei competion in the area, from a few years ago, who I'd worked for at one point; the firm run by my ex best-friend, now married to my first fiancée. Well, by the time I'd finished prattling on, I'm sure the fellow was wondering 'who on Earth is this nutter?' While, I had walked away from the front door chuckling...

Tuesday and my Fathers 86th Birthday, the weather was good again, for the third day in a row. I took advantage of the day to get loads of recording done, as I pottered, doing jobs I’ve meant to see to. Then in the late afternoon, after finishing darning socks, I took myself for a walk to the Mere and I’d sat on the wall awhile, as I enjoyed a smoke, just people-watching. Then after the fish ‘n chip tea I made, Barry called and we went to Chester to check out a flat he was interested in, stopping off for some garlic mushrooms, to eat as a kinda picnic, on the way back to mine, to watch Man Utd lose 1 – 2 to Real Madrid, a score I’d relished.

...little Adventures

00:50 Mar 02 2013
Times Read: 749

I like my ‘adventures;’ but sometimes they’re a bit too much, sometimes...

Thursday’s adventure had started as I had travelled on the train to the project and, I’d opened my eyes as the bleach-blonde with the big chest and low-cut light blue tee-shirt got off the train at Moorfields. It’d been then that I had noticed she had left her large black and gold-coloured purse on the seat. I’d picked it up, seen that there were all her cards and internet details were in it, so ensured that I handed it in to the guard at the turnstiles out. Then later, as I was setting up the cups, I heard voices getting loud outside the main doors. I had finished pouring the milk into the cup, then went through the church, telling Roger, I’ll be back in five minutes. And, so saying I’d gone outside, to see what needed to be done, to find one old fellow at the bottom of the steps, bleeding from his face, a young man still hovering near him and, a young slim loud woman standing there, with a can still in her hand. It transpired she was saying the fellow still lying on the floor bleeding had tried it on, while the fellow to my left was telling me it was untrue. And voices were getting loud, with an air of real violence in the air, while I knew my limits as to what I was allowed to do, or prepared to do, because of my spine: “Keep the noise down,” I’d requested, “I would like to think that the neighbours don’t get too pissed off with us. I want us to be here next week…” And, the young slim, hard-faced but attractive drunk got her fellow who committed the assault to ‘quiet down and go.’ At leastI’d helped stop the fellow getting beaten up, rather just hit badly, till bleeding. And, feeling moderately satisfied, I’d gonet back into the church to help finish the set-up. On the way in I overheard the young slim, hard-faced but attractive drunk trying to justify her actions. Then, when the doors were opened and we’d been serving meals, I some of the lads talking and saying, she’d prompted such an action twice before, on the way to the church. An yes, needless to say, I had got told off, for going out on my own; but, Roger’s backs as bad as mine, [albeit operable] and, I knew my way of doing things might work, rather than his . Funny ting was, I was so calm and collected, at the time, but that had changed, much later. Either way, I hadn’t needed what happened after that - - I’d got to the station, after a much-needed whiskey at The Liffy, then realised I could not find my ticket home. Well… eventually… I found my ticket and, thankfully had company for the journey home, as I was so darn wound up. Saying that, I had been so wired I just couldn’t relax, at all… all night… again…
