My body was not alert or awake on the Friday last and, I'd been cold. Fatigue, due to a lack of calories and sleep. I could well imagine the diagnosis myself. But, the last fall and the abscess seemed to have drained me of all my reserves. That said, I did go out to the Co-Op for a few essentials, bead and milk and blueberries and cream. It had only been when I'd neared home had I recalled the other 'essential' I'd gone out for, tobacco. So after making and serving Dad his tea I'd gone out again and needless to say, by the the time I got home my left foot was a ball of fire and needing rest. So, I'd rested awhile, with the prospect of blueberries and ice-cream a pleasant thought as I planned the soup I'd make, knowing full well I had to get something inside me, albeit I'd no appetite, as happens so often nowadays.
My liking for listening to Doctor Who related audio's was mollified the other week, as I'd found that I had listened to ninety eight per cent of all the who -related stuff I had, which was irksome indeed.
So initially I went on the net seeking audiostories to listen to, when I had no Who, to listen to. Then as I searched I had found stuff like Lord Peter Wimsey stories and Paul Temple and Phillip Marlowe stories, to listen to, when needed. I'd heard one or two of the Wimsey stories and, a few of the Marlowe. To find so many stories that I'd want to listen to was pleasing indeed. And, talking of things 'interesting', the new netflix series, 'sex, death and robots' is really good. I'd read somewhere that it was 'Heavy Metal' for the millennials, which denigrates 'Heavy metal', just a tad. Although that said, I had found the stories both entertaining and interesting, through utilising a diverse mix of animation styles. And, the stories had been pretty good, I'd thought. And, having acquired one episode and enjoyed it, I'd then spent two days getting the rest – as I say, I liked it.
On the Friday night I'd acquired Voyage of the scarlet queen and the avengers , from South Africa as well as the Adventures of Raffles and some more Richard Diamond, as played by the ex-hoofer Dick Powell, who later went on to produce the tv series, starring David Janssen, of the same character. I even acquired some more Lord Peter Wimsey, with Ian Carmichael, which I find particularly enjoyable to listen to.
Then after a sleepless Sunday night, I went to the dentist again. He saw to the back of the capped tooth at the front, to the right of the remaining front tooth. The dentist had worked on it for quite awhile. But, after my evening meal with Dad, I went to brush my teeth and, the tooth Mister Nolan [my dentist] had been working on, just fell out and went straight down the sink plughole.
|When I looked to the mirror later I smiled, called myself 'Peggy' and wondered when the soreness to the side of my right nostril might die away – but, it hadn't that night.
So, it was back to the dentist again, with me being issued antibiotics, again... the same one's as the previous occasion, the one's that mean I couldn't drink, again... Then weeks later with the swelling down, I'd had the roots out. And, I did manage to find a suitable whiskey, to celebrate the lack of pain to my gum and face...
And, although I'd found that I've now listened to almost 6gb of Doctor Who audio, which left me with nish all to listen all; so Youtube and oldtime radio sites provided a lot of diverse material for me to listen to, on the occasions when I need.
I've located Humhrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in 'Bold Venture', June Whitfield as Miss Marple and Ian Carmichael as Lord Peter Wimsey and these and several others have been a real pleasure to listen to, when needed.
My listening to the writing of others has proven useful to me, in that it has acted as a catalyst for me, as I continue to write my own short stories. That said, the two falls I had did have a dramatic effect on my sentence construction, which has taken quite awhile to alleviate. But, I am writing... and, that's the thing... after all.
Then another Wednesday came and went, with yet another visit to the detist and the acquisition of my top set, renovated and improved; so as I left, I'd actually smiled.
Come Good Friday it had been sunny and pleasant, but having eaten the day prior, I hadn't want to go too far from the bathroom, 'just in case'. There are assuredly days when my body seems to hate me, with either my guts or my bones giving me gyp; and on the occasional day both.
But it had been my choice, after all.
That professor at The Royal had offered me three choices, a bag, opened up mornig and night with laxatives, or the control of my diet... and, I'd gone with the latter. Even so, there are days when the bathroom seems to be my best friend and, other days when being an ex- care assistant is useful... to say the very least.
And talking of distraction, which I had been – I do find the change in Captain Marvel from a hero I liked reading of in the late sixties and seventies, to this character, that has hit our screen. It just seems wrong to me, after all it had been a damn fine character, back then... with surreal storylines occasionally, but always superb artwork. And then, there's the question of 'who is Captain Marvel', 'coz to me it's Billy Batson, who is now Shazam, but was Captain Marvel way back when Superman could only leap over tall buildings, not having yet mastered the ability of flight. And talking Shazam, they were the gods whose poer the captain wields, when Billy Batson calls out 'Shazam'... with at their centre of the gods statues a bearded man in a robe, a mage, Merlin I recall. And, now there's a scene in the new 'Hellboy' movie, where Hellboy enters a cavern carrying Excalibur, to be met by a bearded man in a robe, a mage, Merlin probably. Yet, musings aside... I did like the last few minutes of 'Shazam', which had brought a really broad smile to my face...
Come Sunday morning I was up early, needing the toilet and painkillers. As I'd looked through the partly drawn curtains and out the back window, I'd seen a blue sky, a crimson sunrise to the far horizon and, low in the sky to the left, a fine full silver full moon.
It had looked good and, brought a smile to my face as I'd begun my morning...
