"No"



"Why?"



"I've never seen one"



"Do you believe in God?"



"Yes"



"Why, have you seen him?"



Before I begin, to clarify, when I say the word, "God", I am using the broad universal sense of the word, meaning it could be Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Kali, Shiva, etc.



This was taken from a recent conversation I had with a good friend of mine. And while I haven't decided if I believe in Vampires or not, I haven't decided if I believe in God or not either. So why are people more likely to believe in something like a God rather than something like a Vampire?



For a couple of reasons:

God is good. People are more willing to accept a belief if that belief is based on good rather than evil. Here you have this supreme being that wants to love you, want to care for you, wants to protect you. Who wouldn't want that? And he even made you in his image so he's just like you!



On the other hand, here you have this supreme being that wants to take you into a dark alley, remove all the blood from your body and dump your carcass down the sewer. Hmmm, what to believe...tough decision!



Another reason is that God offers people a support system, gathering ie Church. People are more willing to believe if they are surrounded by a group that believes the same thing. I have yet to find a "Victims Of Vampire Bites Anonymous" in the Yellow Pages.



While the "God" entity has multiple witnesses, making it more believable, The Vampire's motto of "leave no witnesses" makes it more difficult to believe.
