Written by the amazing Einar (who I hope to one day meet) and sung by himself and my darling Lindy, et. al. Please enjoy.

We are an ancient tree
With fresh blossoms
Towards the sun we stretch
Forward to grow
Listen!
Far down in the root and in the cycles of years
Chant the old
Listen!
Far down in the root and in the cycles of years
In the bark lay wounds
They attest of honor
They attest of misdeed
Some hurt more than others
Look deep into
my eyes so blue
You must understand
Remember that all people
will in future leave
The Night it will come
I give you your heritage
If you want
It will not leave
Heavy it weighs
Remember, do not take more than you can carry
Deep in the earth
Roots give you direction
When storms rage
The creaking
Chants
Look deep into
my eyes so blue
You must understand
Remember that all people
will in future leave
The Night it will come
I give you your heritage
If you want
It will not leave
Heavy it weighs
Remember, do not take more than you can carry
For every sprout
We become taller and deeper
For every sprout
We become taller and deeper

Wardruna and Aurora

I had the pleasure of meeting Lindy-Fay Hella (the dark-haired woman) many years ago, and we still speak on FB to this day. She sent me the link to this video, so I wanted to share it with you all.

Who shall sing me,
Into deathsleep sling me,
When I on the path to Hel go,
And this track I tread
Is cold, so cold, so cold.

I sought the songs,
I sent the songs.
Then the deepest well
Gave me tears so harsh
From the Slain-father's pledge.

I know everything, Odin,
To whom you gave your eye.

Who shall sing me,
Into deathsleep sling me,
Whence I on the path to Hel go,
And this track I tread
Is cold, so cold, so cold.

Early or in the day's end,
The raven still knows if I fall.

Once you stand at the gate to Hel
And when you have to tear free,
I shall follow you
Over Gjallarbrú with my song.

You will be free from the bonds that bind you,
You are free from the bonds that bound you!

"Cattle die,
Friends die,
So, too, must you die.
Though one thing
Never dies;
The fair fame one has earned.

Cattle die,
Friends die,
So, too, must you die.
I know one,
That never dies;
Judgement of a dead man's life."

We have a term in the Military...

18:06 Jan 28 2019
Times Read: 479

..That denotes the type of person that HAWK2K is. I am sure it's a term a lot of you know well:

Shitbag.

Now don't get me wrong, I am sure that this isn't the popular opinion, but after having the displeasure of knowing him for 10 years on here, at least, and giving him MANY upon MANY chances to clear the air between us, as per usual, the hand that is extended in acceptance and forgiveness is bitten off.

Sadly, it would seem that this is indicative of the sort of person that I really do not need to be around, or even acknowledge with more than a passing nod. This is sad because I try to be accepting of anyone, regardless of their faults. I am a US Soldier, and god knows that I have many faults - Serving Trump being one of many, I'm sure.

But when you keep an eye on your Block list to see if a certain person falls off than quickly REblock them after telling them that a mutual associate of yours (DistortedSmile, a former user that I brought here) sends their regards, then we have problems.

A man is someone who tells you they would prefer not to speak to you and tells you why.
A boy tells you to leave them alone.
An animal does something based on pure instinct.
A nameless thing does something because they want to be a shitbag.

I'm sure that some will quickly go to him and tell him what I've said. I invite you to do so. If I had something to hide, I wouldn't post it here.

It’s funny all those weird and strange terms you mortals seem to make up out of the blue. It’s makes me laugh which is good it helps fight the demons and urges that hide deep down within me. So, a big thank you is in order. ~ Lord Nico

Qntal and Middle German

13:25 Jan 27 2019
Times Read: 491

So this song is definitely sung in German, but I don't think it's contemporary at all. If I had to take a stab at it, I'd guess it was Middle-High German, because I know that the composer of these lyrics, Walther von der Vogelweide lived in the 12th century, and Old High German was extinct by the end of the mid 11th century. Mmm. So because Vogelweide was born after the language had changed, my guess is that this would be Middle-High German, since, though I'm not an expert of linguistic anthropology, it doesn't seem like languages evolve at a super-fast rate, at least not before a hundred or so years have passed.

Most definitely, and wonderfully, Medieval French. Based on the theme of the song, if I had to guess, it was composed by a troubadour, and if I really wanted to stretch my assumption, I'd reckon somewhere in the South of France, which might make this language Provençal. Further analysis of these lyrics tells me that this might actually be an 'alba', or 'dawn-song', which was a genre of medieval poetry that dealt with the emotions experienced by lovers 'parting at dawn'. Think of a.. hmm.. okay. Think of when you try to sneak a dude or girl up into your room when you were a kid, and then kicked them out at dawn, so your parents wouldn't find him/her buggering you. It's the same concept, but in these 'alba's, there was always an ally of the lady who would warn the lovers when dawn would approach, such as a watchman or, in this song, a lark. There's a key phrase in this song that tells me this might be true: "et ke I'alowe chantait, ke dit: "amins, alons an",', meaning 'And the lark, arising, sang, as if to say "lovers, away!".' But also a point in a lot of Alba songs, the gentleman always tried to milk the moment for all that it was worth, and steal as much time as he could with her, hence the response below. As a lover of the Medieval era, Qntal is my sublime.

"Si m'ait amors,

I'alowette nos mant."

"ll n'est mie jours,

saverouze au cors gent,

si m'ait amors,

I'alowette nos mant."

"ll n'est mie jours,

saverouze au cors gent."

"So help me love,

The lark lies to us.

It isn't nearly day,

Sweet, noble heart."

"So help me love,

The lark lies to us.

It isn't nearly day,

Sweet, noble heart."

Skald - "Run"/ Skald - "Rune"

Es macht immer Spaß, wenn eine Kultur die Kultur eines anderen umfasst. So wie diese faszinierende Band "Skald", die trotz ihrer Herkunft aus Frankreich altnordisch ist.

It is always enjoyable when a culture embraces the culture of another. Such as this fascinating band, 'Skald', embracing Old Norse despite being from France.

Long time indeed.

It occurs to me that I haven't been here in ages. Not since my.. disagreements with certain Moderators about how to run things.

I respect and admire most of them, but there are a few who make me laugh because they're so.. ridiculous. Shit, I remember when they were bloody Whelps, and I was a high level member. Ah, those were the days... So to listen to their passive aggression is not intimidating, but laughable to the maximum factor. However, I didn't want to get into Kindergarten bullshit, so I left.

So, life. What have I been up to? Well, obviously, the Military, just became a SSG, so I'm pretty excited about that. Changed my MOS to Counterintelligence, but thinking about switching to the Air Force after my current contract is over.

Or I might just return to Germany and study Medieval History for my secondary Masters. Good to be well-rounded, I guess.

Well, I suppose that's all for now, I'm sure I'll linger for a few days before leaving because some member who thinks they're a Vampire or can intimidate me pissed me off. Eh.
