I am proud to announce the completion of SciFi Section. Today is the official launch date. The Dark Network also officially launches today, as there are now 2 fully functional Dark Network sites.
This has been a long time coming. I first conceptualized SciFi Section and The Dark Network over a year-and-a-half ago. I hit numerous snags during development, but it feels good to finally have completed the site.
At this time, there should be no broken links anywhere on the site. All pages should be functioning normally. If you experience any unusual activity, please report it.
SciFi Section offers a few things that Vampire Rave doesn’t have:
I noticed an Underline effect on the Groups. I don't know if that may be a bug that may need to be fixed.
SO , This may seem like a silly Question but it says here that forum posts go to level . On the Vampirerave Its the database . I notice that My level carries over to this site . Does that mean that forum post here will affect my level on vampirerave and so forth .
I've updated the page to say Database submissions.
Your status level is the same for whatever site you're on. The status name will change to fit the theme of the site.
i've been logging in to the site for about a week now ^_^ you did a great job on it, love all the green
I noticed it takes awhile for database submissions to take effect on your status, I was wondering how long it takes for your count to go up?
Will we be able to edit the sci fi profile like we can the vr profile? ie add a background, pics etc or will it be connected to our vr profile so that anything we change on vr will effect our sci fi profile as well?
great!!! My type of site.... I'm a big Stargate, Star Wars, and Star Trek fan. I will definitely fit in nicely!!!

You can edit the css style sheet, and that will be sepperated from VR. I beleive, and if you did edit your vr profile here it would show that on sci-fi section. If i remember correctly. Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

I'll be spending next week bug-testing and enhancing SciFi Section. The week after I start work on new Dark Network sites.
I don't have an exact schedule, but I don't think I am going to work on Gothic Invasion next. I've got another site in the wings that is almost done, so I think I'll finish it up first.
Gothic Invasion will take me about a month to complete, as it has some new sections: classifieds, profile search by zip code, "degrees of separation" (something new I am working on, and a revised poll system.
So in short, Gothic Invasion should be done before Christmas.
AnimeKikei:
Database submissions take effect (and affect your Status) when approved by a Procurator.
Jypcie:
You have one Dark Network profile. If you edit your profile, the changes will populate throughout all Dark Network sites.
If you are a Premium Member, you can craft the special colors of your profile on a per-site basis. This will allow you to make a Profile page that fits with the theme of each Dark Network site.
The best example I can provide is my own Profile:
http://cancer.vampirerave.com
http://cancer.scifisection.com
You'll notice the content of each of my profiles is the same - but the colors are different.
SciFi Section also has an advanced profile color editing system for Premium Members. You don't have to do anything with CSS anymore. Just fill in the fields with the hex color codes you want.
This is going to sound sort of noobish coming from me.
Say you have multiple Dark Network accounts. Can you be logged into one on SciFi Section and the other on VR and work that way?
Or will logging into the other account on the other site boot you off?
Its depends on your browser settings and how you do it.
Tabbed browsers typically share cookies within sessions, so under this browsing scheme it wouldn't work.
It would probably work if you used separate browser instances (windows) for each site (depending on your settings).
If you used two different browsers for two different sites, it would work.
Ok, just was wondering about that.
I normally just do it with different browsers so I'll stick to that.
Thanks. :)
There is a link at the top of this thread and a image link on the right side of this site....
Then you could always just type www.scifisection.com into your search bar.
I think the SciFi Section will get a lot of great new additions to it's database much like VR has to it's database.
Cancer
I just log in to the new site and I must say that you have done a great job with it and you always know how to amaze with new things :)
As unoriginal as it sounds, you've done a great job with this Sci-Fi section. Thank you !
As I have a great interest in scifi - this is going to be fun. I have, of course, visited it before now - testing to see if my name and password signed me in - and it did.
I've already signed up for the Star Trek group
SUPER GREEN!!
Look forward to adding to the database. Good job!
I love the site and it just adds to what all us members can do
Very awesome job Cancer!!!! I have already joined a group, too! LOL
Awesome work, looks like I'll be split between 2 now. I like it!
great site hopefully i wont go green after being on it for an hour. but you did a good job bro
will we be able to embed video on the custom pages. if we are premium members?
I like it awsome site special we can see who is online on the vampire rave and we can se our message center that's perfect
So I am a member of this site if im a VR member right? Is there a choice?
Hmm, am I missing seeing the Acolyte questions on Sci-Fi Section, or are they not there?
This might sound a little off of the wall. But I was wondering if by chance you were going to make the Sci Fi site like VR when it comes to accessing your groups that you are in? Right now the only way that I have found to get into the group is to go through the groups pages.
The other thing that I was wondering about is the same thing that Fizbop touched on is the underlines.
I have a silly question. Is there a list on each website that tells what the meaning of our status level is, like on VR?
Like on the SciFi Section, I am a Xenomorh.
I so love it!!! Thank you Cancer for the site
I am already finding the info I love and its awsomely great for the different group and all
I've been waiting and it was worth it!
for thosese starting a group. the best thing to do is play around with it. it is a new site and there will be bugs at first. hopefully cancer will get them fix and give us an outline on what we can use html wise. and if we will be allowed to use css code. also if you plan on having a coven when you hit sire then you might want to consider having a group. there about the same you just cant induct members.

I've discovered that my friends list count does not match between the sites. I have 49 friends in VR and 58 friends in SciFi.
I have also done a side-by-side comparison and find that the actual list is a perfect match. One of the sites cannot count.
I tried to log on with my VR name and password. I wasn't able to. I also tried to set up an account, and wasn't able to. I am wondering what I did wrong?
oh good I thought i was doing something wrong trying to set up my group main page so it's not just me then lol. has anyone tried coding on additional pages yet in the groups? I haven't made it that far on mine yet.
One thing I have noticed is that if I want to be on both sections at the same time I have to sign in to both sections but if i sign out of 1 it signs me out of both. I was wondering if it's set up that way intentionally?
I tried sending someone the link to my group main page and they told me it sent them to the sign in page instead. I'd like to be able to link to my scifi group page on VR and vice averse.
Over all I really like the new section even if it is green I can see why green is a good choice though.
ok so I missed the earlier post about sign in issues when I skimmed through. So do I understand correctly that it's going to vary between everyone how the sites inter react depending on browser used and settings? If that's the case then direct linking between say covens/groups will probably be hit and miss also then?
I was also wondering about the customisation of Group pages. I know that with VR covens there's a particular format of CSS to use in the pages - will this the the case on SciFi too? Ditto journals :-)
thank you for your hard work Cancer and thank you for that update LadyChordewa
I see we have Status's, but is there a Status System on the site. If it is, sorry I am blind. lol
I just thought it was really cool that it says I am a Steampunk and it just fits my profile. lol
BleedingMassacre:
I am still working out how Groups will function. I'll be changing a few things over the next 7-10 days.
Raziel:
Your Dark Network membership is for all Dark Network sites. You can't cherry-pick which sites you want to belong to.
You are under no obligation to log into any site.
xxEmaeraldxx:
Questions can be sent to the Acolyte Group via SciFi Section. However, questions can only be answered on the VR side. There is no SciFi Section Acolyte interface.
Cheetahcry:
I don't understand your "Group join" question. To join a Group you must go into the Group and click on the join link. How joins are handled are determined by the Group owner.
Regarding the "underlines", this is a browser-specific issue.
temptation101:
On the Status System page for each website.
LadyChordewa:
How that code will be handled is still being developed. Right now, no tags are allowed in titles and only basic (non-premium tags) are allowed in Descriptions.
I will be developing a system similar to that of SFS's premium profile editing, that will allow you to fill in hex color codes, etc. I will also develop a template system that will allow you to create one "scheme" and apply it to all of your Group pages.
LordVlkodlak:
I'll look into the issue. It would help if I had more details, such as which site's count is off. If you are talking about "online friends" (not total friends), SFS may be counting lurking members. But that is just a guess.
Tzaddi:
If you have non-standard characters in your password there may be an issue. I'd need more details to assist. You'll have to message me personally with all relevant data.
Wolvie:
I am trying to make it so you log in once, and log out once, across all Dark Network sites. It isn't easy. There are multiple browser security measures in place that disallow cross-cookies. I've had some success, but I am still working on it.
Eventually I will probably make a "launcher" page, where you log in once, then can browse to any Dark Network site from there without logging in again.
Maledicta, et al:
VR Style Sheets will not entirely work on SFS. SFS has different "elements" (windows, objects, etc) than VR. At the minimum, a totally new Style Sheet would have to be developed for SFS pages.
This is a pain in the ass, which is why I am working on an advanced style editing page, similar to SFS's premium profile editing page.
Scorned:
Definitions are here: http://www.scifisection.com/levels2.php
Definitions are down a bit on the page.
SFS also has a Site Map page that makes it a little easier to find pages.
Thanks for the reply Cancer, looking forwad to seeing the new CSS!
I've noticed another issue, but it may just be a deliberate (if slightly annoying) addition:
Each time you go to edit a group page, it adds another set of /br tags to each linebreak, which, unless deleted each time, result in the gaps between each line getting larger and larger. Is this done on purpose or will it be corrected in the future? It does get time consuming having to delete endless /br tags every time I want to edit a page :-)
Thank you for replying to the post and taking the time out to answer the question I had about the groups, Cancer. I did finally figure it out and it was something that I was over looking at first.
Is Gothic Invasion going to be a dedicated Goth site? You should consider adding a vlogging or social broadcasting feature to your social networking sites. This is becoming more technically feasible with the proliferation of affordable Content Distribution Networks.
I really like the music DJs and radio shows on Stickam which hold online parties but none of them play the kind of music I like.
Anyway, it looks like the new media isn't going to cater to our tastes so there needs to be some DIY.
For the sci fi section groups will there be a way to Fix and Center they main page background
And to make the other little box's transparent so that the main background can be seen through them?
AnimeKikei:
I pasted my css into the Specialized Style Sheet for your Profile from the VR side and making some changes and adding backgrounds and color changes in the Custom Premium Colors area below it, was able to make it so the background showed through.
You should be able to play around with the css along with the Colour Premium Colors with any backgrounds you are wanting. I got most of my halp by going to:
Custom Profile Colors and Layout Help
There is also a note at the bottom that says:
When specifying html colors, transparent is a valid color.
Keep that in mind--it works. :)
Just an idea, but I think there should be something showing what groups we are part of instead of clicking on the groups link, and scrolling down to find the groups.
Also I noticed that PREVIOUS 15 and NEXT 15 are flipped
Cancer... I am loving the SFS. Infact due to the SFS I have managed to pursuede my partner to join the Dark Network, as she is a massive Scifi Fan.
So in closing, thank you very much. I am enjoying both VR and SFS, and the G/F is starting to get into VR as well.
Thanks Lady Chordewa. I guess I didn't see it there before. Geez I must be blind
I have paid a visit and I am excited about the sight. Congrats
LadyChordewa:
Group owners (or detail masters+) can alter Group pages in the same way a Premium Member could edit their Profile. All the same tags are available.
A style box isn't included, but it isn't needed either. Style code can be inserted inline, or at the top of the description page.
For every page I have modified thus far, I have not needed style code.
nighwish1977:
That's the whole point of the Dark Network... Bringing in additional sites that appeal to a wider audience.
just wanted to say thanks this is definitely a biiiig plus
Forgive me, but something about this doesn't want to make sense to me....
so are the status systems for all the dark network sites the same? Like when you reach Sire on VR, you are a level 28 on the other sites as well?
isn't that kind of like cheating? it seems like you could just level your way up on one site, ignore the others, and then all of a sudden you're a high level on all of them. It seems like that should be changed.
XXgoddessXofXtheXnightXX -
All the Dark Network sites are technically connected. When you create an account on one site, you're automatically a member of all sites. If you buy a premium membership on one site, it works on all sites.
Just like how the Forum on all sites is the same.
You're not leveling up just on one site. You're leveling up on all sites. On "The Dark Network".
