I have Chronic Anemia, and crave a lot of red meat! Mostly just meat in general. I really have pale skin that sometimes yellows when my iron is really low. I have to get Venofer infusions in my port-a-cath(which I used to have to get in an IV), and it only works for so long.
People think that Anemia is also a sign of a Vampire attack. I have had this Chronic Anemia since I was 4 years of age, and had been bitten by something when we went camping.
My theory is that Vampire's become Anemic when they need to feed, cos I really have the craving to eat a nice bloody meal ya know!
I really believe that this could be a possiblelink to the lore of vampires..
I can't really find to much information to connect the two together, but would like to hear if you think this is at all possible..

Vampiric Medical Conditions:
Three medical conditions may have led to people being inaccurately identified as vampires: (1). Anemia causes a pale skin complexion. This may have looked like vampirism. (2). Catalepsy can cause a death-like state for a short time to several days. A person coming out of this state will appear to be rising from the dead. (3). Porphyria is a rare genetic blood disease. It causes pale skin, sensitivity to light, and makes the incisors look bigger. Porphyria almost certainly influenced the vampire legend.

Anemia Symptoms
Because a low red blood cell count decreases oxygen delivery to every tissue in the body, anemia causes many signs and symptoms. It makes almost any other underlying medical condition worse. For example, if you have an underlying heart problem and become anemic, you are more likely to have problems associated with your heart disease than you would have if you were not anemic.
How severe the anemia is will determine how severe the signs and symptoms will be.
* Signs of anemia may include the following:
o Black and tarry stools (sticky and foul smelling)
o Maroon, or visibly bloody stools
o Rapid heart rate
o Rapid breathing
o Pale or cold skin
o Yellow skin called jaundice
o Low blood pressure
o Heart murmur
o Enlargement of the spleen
* Symptoms of anemia may include the following:
o Fatigue
o Trouble breathing
o Chest pain
o Abdominal pain
o Weight loss
o Weakness
o Dizziness and passing out, especially upon standing

Umm.. I also forgot to put in there. When I was 4 I got really sick from that bite, and they had also come to find out that I was super Anemic. From then on it was iron pills, syrup, and then infusions! I have been very sick from it.. I get really weak, and fatigued easily. I need to constantly keep up with my treatments, or else I am down for the count...
In my opinion it can ve, most vampyres i've met are anemic, but thats not official
It most certainly did lend itself to the lore of the Vampire,as did a few other medical reasons that were not explained back then.
Anemia, or chlorosis as it was called in the Middle Ages, is a disease involving red blood cells and hemoglobin that has been loosely linked to vampirism. According to Karl Guggenheim, Department of Human Nutrition and Metabolism, anemia in the Middle Ages was associated with the group of “hysterical diseases” and was found mainly in women. In one case a girl diagnosed with this condition was reported to have a strong aversion to food, especially cooked meat and was referred to as exsanguinated by a prominent Greek physician who diagnosed the girl. These symptoms have a somewhat vampiric sound and can easily be related to vampirism. Vampires do not like nor do they especially need food, and most are considerably pale due to lack of sunlight. Another common symptom of chlorosis is that those affected by it often appeared a bluish-green color, like one might expect a corpse to look like. This symptom might have lead to the walking dead appearance of vampires as these people with anemia may have appeared corpse-like. People of that era would have considered anemia to be a cause of vampirism due to the lack of medical knowledge of that time as well as misinterpretations of the symptoms and the overall disease. Due to the advancement of medical knowledge throughout the ages, the mystery of chlorosis has turned into the modern disease of anemia. Modern day anemia varies in many ways, there are now several known types of this disease, including inherited and acquired anemia. Most likely the anemia people suffered from in the Middle Ages is the acquired version. This type of anemia can be caused by a wide range of variables. Including anything from inadequate nutrition, heavy blood loss, and a deficiency in the body’s ability to produce iron could have caused any number of people to develop anemia in the Medieval Era (Iron Deficiency Anemia). Anemia is one of the most common blood disorders, so it makes sense that many people in the Middle Ages suffered from this mysterious disease. It was not until the middle 1800’s that doctors discovered iron deficiency was the principal cause of anemia, and even then the idea that a nutritional deficiency could cause a disease was looked upon with disdain (Guggenheim.). By the turn of the twentieth century it was commonly accepted that iron supplements cured or at least alleviated the symptoms of chlorosis. Eventually chlorosis began to disappear from medical books and was replaced with anemia. Now the easily understood and commonly diagnosed disease of anemia has fully replaced chlorosis in the medical world.
Anemia may have been the one time cause of vampirism, but today there is no way anemia could cause people to behave as vampires. The vampire craze created with the release of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula may have caused people of that era to look for symptoms that were not there. Admittedly, there is a very real possibility that chlorosis sufferers’ may have seemed vampiric if the condition progressed to an extreme. It is also highly likely that this disease was capable of progressing into a severe disorder that caused the common people to believe their loved ones were turning into vampires. Overall, it must be concluded that anemia is not a cause of vampirism. Anemia may have caused vampire-like symptoms, and it may have even caused some people to believe they were turning into vampires, but it did not cause people to have a physiological need to drink blood.

Throughout time the vampire has evolved with the knowledge and technology present in that era. Due to the ever changing image of the vampire, there are currently many definitions for vampires. The traditional or dictionary definition says that a vampire is a reanimated corpse that sucks the blood from sleeping people at night (“Vampire”). These vampires are the ones we read about in horror stories and watch in scary movies around Halloween. Current culture defines vampires as any human that drinks blood or feeds of the energy of another human (“Vampire”. Urban). Real people that walk among us every day are capable of being this kind of vampire. A vampire does not have to be undead, sleep in a coffin, have no reflection, or burst into flames at the sight of sun.
Vampire
Real vampires do none of these things. Many notorious historical figures have been considered to be vampires, not because they exhibited the stereotypical signs of vampirism, but because they had an obsession with blood that eventually led them to drink the blood of their victims. There is no known explanation for these actions other than these people were deranged. Science and medicine have attempted to explain vampirism by associating certain diseases and mental disorders with vampires. Each individual vampire throughout history and well into modern society had and has a reason for behaving the way they did and continue to do. That reason may relate to a physiological or psychological component within each of the affected persons. Vampire stories have become so convoluted that it is finally time to separate the truth from myth and fantasy.
Dracula
Vampires have existed for centuries. The fear of vampires has existed just as long. Ancient people feared their loved ones were turning into vampires at the first sign of vampire-like behavior. A pale complexion pared with bad sleeping habits and a lack of appetite caused people to fear they were in the presence of a vampire. There are now known medical conditions that caused people to appear vampire-like. The contents of this website include the information I found while searching for proof that vampires are real, and that most real vampires have a perfectly normal medical explanation for their behaviors, or at least as normal as a vampire can get.
I don't know the matter.
I think its only a blood related sickness and not concerned with dire.
but when honorable SkylarWolvesVein says that mostly sang vampires are anemic. it an be possible.
i am not the sang and i have enough blood cells and did donate time to time when here blood bank recommended my blood when ever for open heart surgery being Orh (-).
my dire for blood due to psych only and its breaks my body very feverly.
I would hate to have to feed off another's energy to feel good.
Seems to me that those who do have a leak somewhere.
you know, i think i do lol have a leak that is, sometimes i have to feed on blood or energy to actually fee better or get rid of a headache, tylenal or benadryl haven't helped me, but energy has.
Yes you do hate.
even they do hate.
but what about the instinct hitting them to have blood... taste the blood which shaken their psych sweetly and did fall tehm to reguler dire.
they do intake only one pint a month enough for their dire and mostly they do intake animal blood. can't say that we do hate killing the animals and feed on it the same is in blood case. if they fall to human blood crazy, most of them fall to autovampirism just like myself due to my psychic dire soem time in few year grows due to instinct. and if otehr vampire do feed on each other its not due to joy and play role, but they agree to share blood of each other due to dire and instinct. its the instinct similer to sucubi or incubi and some time its similer to feeding on sexual energy same kind of instinct do hit in blood dire.
please children this is not recommended to you to grasp it all bad for psychology and civilization to talk of sex before the recommended age and this talk harm the intellact and portfolios and profiles and fortunes due to stdent life get destroyed with this.
Honorable Oceanne
I do respect your stance and opinion and personal vision.
I did put my case and opinion only that why psychic vampire if fall to blood dire why they do. though the dire for energies an in that especially the blood is the nature of damned that human condemn and human must not do it or turn to this evil taste which may kill other being or kin if it went wrongly in mad nature.
this is the fear of human too that their generation must not turn to damned things and be saved from this plague.
but the incidence who are real vampire as myself is psychic vampire do not impact on human or beings at all what human call my type is divinity coz i feed on cosmic energy mainly. thats why i did place here my sang part mainly that i am not the so called divine person the things are lacking in myself too.
yes feeding on cosmic energy is the part of divinity if it is fed through the process to become high psychic and very much powerful its devastating too.
but i do not adopt those methods
I am in search of the knowledge of para-psychics and this quest has put me in the darkside.
and my dire do come in both darkness as well as divinity
in cosmic energy matter there very thin line in darkenss and divinity.
my matter fall in darkness coz I dogain it for dire.
yes, of course, many of superstitions that are attribuited to vampires was people that had anemia perniciosa
When I was born, I had to have a blood transfusion. And I am also anemic. I aways feel bad, until I started to feed on energy and now I feel so much more alive. Not as run down.
I had chronic anemia aswell (though not as bad as your's) and had a jolly fun time getting my iron levels back up. I don't think it has anything to do with vampirism really, but I am interested in what you said about Porphyria, although on looking it up I can't find anything about the disease which matches what you said. Can you give me a link or something possibly?
This is interesting because I have a blood disease known as Alpha Thalassemia.
What are thalassemias?
Thalassemias (thal-a-SE-me-ahs) are inherited blood disorders. "Inherited" means they're passed on from parents to children through genes.
Thalassemias cause the body to make fewer healthy red blood cells and less hemoglobin (HEE-muh-glow-bin) than normal. Hemoglobin is an iron-rich protein in red blood cells. It carries oxygen to all parts of the body. It also carries carbon dioxide (a waste gas) from the body to the lungs, where it's exhaled.
People who have thalassemias can have mild or severe anemia (uh-NEE-me-uh). This condition is caused by a lower than normal number of red blood cells or not enough hemoglobin in the red blood cells.
What Causes Thalassemias?
Your body makes three types of blood cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets (PLATE-lets). Red blood cells contain hemoglobin, an iron-rich protein that carries oxygen from your lungs to all parts of your body. Hemoglobin also carries carbon dioxide (a waste gas) from your body to your lungs to be exhaled.
Hemoglobin has two kinds of protein chains: alpha globin and beta globin. If your body doesn't make enough of these protein chains, red blood cells don't form properly and can't carry enough oxygen. Your body won't work well if your red blood cells don't make enough healthy hemoglobin.
Genes control how the body makes hemoglobin protein chains. When these genes are missing or altered, thalassemias occur.
Thalassemias are inherited disorders. That is, they're passed on from parents to their children through genes. People who get abnormal hemoglobin genes from one parent but normal genes from the other are called carriers. Carriers often have no signs of illness other than mild anemia. However, they can pass the abnormal genes on to their children.
People with moderate to severe forms of thalassemia have inherited abnormal genes from both parents.

I can relate to the cravings of red meat, being pale, and everything else associated with this. Do I consider myself Vampiric, no, but it's interesting.
I just up my iron and B-12 intake and I am extremely careful of what I do.
Vampyres do commonly have the case of Anemia. I know that I do. A lot of vampyres to come into being because of their anemia. Taking the blood of others is sort of a way to get the extra iron into their system.
I have always been curious of this as well...
I can relate to thallassemia..I do not have full blown alpha or beta but I carry the genetic trait and for some odd reason have exhibited symptoms of the disease..of course they arent as extreme..but i am constantly anemic and vitamin deficient...I do beleive this has alot to do with the vampyric condition...when I need to feed I am more anemic..it would make alot of sense..I prefer to feed sang..so that is my deficiency as a vampyre...in all reality though..its all about energy!
Yeah, I can completely say that my Anemia is not passed on by my parents. I have tried to overcome this disease, but its something that I can not deny. I wish there was a cure for it because right about now is when I start sleeping for days..
This as it is is just a yes or no question. Unless you wish to expand the topic further there will be no reason for this to remain open.
There are a lot of theories historically and within certain subcultures. I don't believe there is a break in the bioenergy field but to be perfectly honest no one knows...these are all theories but we have done surveys and we have watched others.
My opinion and nothing more as I am not a scientist but I have judgments from what I have observed. I did research on energy and energy units are calories. I believe the vampiric needs calories outside of what is provided in food. Many are allergic to a lot of foods and if they try to solely get the energy needs from food since calories are energy units it is either not enough or not of the quality needed. Some drink blood and all I can see is I have not found a reason connected to energy per se other than close proximity to the donor but the other factor is that it is living protein and I think this may be the reason and why many will tell you it must be fresh to be substantially of effect. Many who try to use food totally get fat and/or very tired all the time. It will affect the nervous system, auto immune system or major organs if there is energy deficiency. Many have said this including Michelle Belanger. I realized this from experience. Many will get diagnosed with lupus, fibromyalgia or CFIDS or all especially the females. Is there a connection, I think so because of the numbers.
There have always been disorders that resemble something else but I think Porphyria and things like that are totally separate but may have contributed to the superstitions. Many ancient tribal groups did ritual blood drinking and canabalism such as the Scythians and all the tribes associated with them. Shrugs...some things can't be explained and the names used perhaps are not the right ones but what remains to be seen there are too many who have similar conditions such as reversed circadian rhythm and the list goes on. I am not sure about the diagnosed condition of anemia but I can say extreme fatigue.
many medical dissorders have been associated with vampirism and honestly chronic anemia would not be suprising, it fits the bill perfectly, this could tie in with one of the other threads, they asked how it originated, could have been a genetic mutation of anemia
What got me interested in Vampirism is someone actually mentioning it to me in a casual conversation. We were discussing my disease and what theories doctors have given as to how Alpha Thalassemia is carried and passed on and how it came about.
My dear friend is a Vampire and he stated that he thought that maybe I was. I do not believe in that but I do not condemn those that do. I find the lifestyle entertaining and interesting and have a few friends that are and I love them dearly.
Whether Anemia relates to any of it, it could very well be true, I'm not sure though as my beliefs are different than others.
To throw out a theory that doctors have found with regards to Alpha Thalassemia is the inbreeding of families, although this is a topic that makes people cringe, including myself, it's happened all throughout Europe. Families marrying other family members to keep the wealth within the family confines. I know that my family has done it, there's records and whether I like it or not, I have to face that and it's quite a possibility as to why I have this and why my daughter is affected and my brother is a carrier, his wife has had several miscarriages stemming from AT.
It would be interesting to delve more deeply into my family archives to see if there's any mention of anything unusual such as vampirism...something for me to look into
Well thanks to those who responded.. This should be closed thanks!
