Is there an overlap between Laveyan Satanism and
Theistic Satanism. Aren't they both really one and
the same in the end.
As I understand it, yes and no. While there might be some overlap in their respective philosophies, theistic Satanists believe that Satan exists as a deity, and LaVeyan Satanists are pretty much atheistic and see Satan as a symbol.
It is just my belief that somewhere along the way, the
being/deity and symbol/qualities do cross paths; if only
briefly.
Well, some people believe both sects of Satanism are more or less the same when in fact LaVeyan and Thiestic Satanist have very different beliefs. LaVeyan Satanism is ultimately glorified atheism. We use Satan as an archetype to represent free will and indulgence in our "sinful" human desires such as lust, greed, envy etc. I could go on and on about this. On the other hand, Thiestic Satanism or Spiritual Satanism holds the belief that Satan or Lucifer a real being. However they are not what the media deems "devil worshippers" nor is it " reverse Christianity".
Im probably missing a few things here but i hope this was helpful in any way.
LaVeyan Satanism views Satan as an archetypical manifested form, in its leader, Anton LaVey. Contrary to popular belief, it is not entirely atheistic, in the sense that its tenets are not as "hardcore" as another school of thought, called Rational Satanism. Rational Satanism removes all of the melodrama and exaggerated behaviours that can be found in LaVeyan Satanism, as it is based on logic and rationalisations. Rituals, in LaVeyan Satanism are more often as an exhibition, and thus exaggerated in a small way. Not forgetting the name of the founder! Theistic Satanism does not consider Lucifer/Satan as an archetype, but, rather a living, breathing being who has attained personhood.
...Is only one Satanism, and that is the one governed, by Satan himself. Those ramification or different names, that you read around, are just people, who got no knowledge about the underground of life.
