The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory

I'm not sure how alone I am on this, but I am very excited to see Vampire Rave evolve. I have been a member for over a decade now and love this site more and more everyday. The pictures and videos of the updates have got me waiting anxiously for the beta testing. My heart jumped a bit when Cancer skimmed over something called the "city", which I can only speculate is some sort of integrated game. I am very curious if this new layout for VR is going to include custom skins and graphics or if the layouts we use today will still exist. I predict that the much of the manual will need to be updated and this makes me slightly nervous as an Acolyte but also excited to help people with new questions and problems that will surely arise. What are your thoughts about these videos? What do you think the new VR will be like? What kind of updates would make you happy?

I have viewed and read about the updates, posted in the main Forum. That integrated game you are referring does not make me feel anything, as I am not all that a player or keen in getting involved in a RPG world format. I guess I am quite the conventional one, that way. Not necessarily "backward", but not much of a "futuristic" being either, if yo know what I mean. One thing that makes me sick is seeing all that alternative log-ins to Rave. I'd rather keep my online life private, even if that means lying my face off. I cherish the beings I have met here, spoken to, and interacted with. Seldom do I let my Nightside creep into my Dayside, unless necessary. *shrug* I am looking forward to the first release though! Yay to fun! :)

I know what you mean when it comes to keeping your day and night separate and agree. I do not however think they are alternate logins to VR but rather just easy access for sharing purposes... to share a page to/on those sites easily. I recall the days of hangman and super tick tac toe 5x5x5 being played constantly for society favor and would love to see that sort of competitive nature return.

I remember hangman. I looked at Cancer's latest Videos' he put up; that is some amazing coding going on. Very impressive the undertaking he is putting into it and the details. I am looking forward to the Beta. Also what other surprises I am sure he has in store for the site. My hope is when this is all rolled out that it brings new life in the form of members whom are of the quality of the past.

What VampireRave needs is (private) Coven cam rooms.

I agree with that, a private coven cam session would be good. The public cam sessions tend to attract idiots and while you can stop anons, you cant stop members. You can kick them but they can keep coming back I believe. So at the very least there should be an option to permanently ban members from your own cam session or maybe those that are your blocked list should not be able to enter the cam room. I don't really have a problem as it is now because I eat trolls for breakfest and it makes good entertainment for me and my coterie.

That said, there really should be a barrier to prevent idiots from joining this site as its folks like those that really drag the quality of the forums down, a new site or update won't really fix things if the same fools can still pollute freely.

Society Cams could be like an extension of the Society chat rooms however... this could cause issues with being moderated. "Vampire Rave Regents administer Vampire Rave Covens." There are only two regents that would theoretically have access to these society cams. With the immense amount possible webcams that the 21,862 members on Vampire Rave (no not all of them are active or in societies) could have online It would be nearly impossible to make sure they were all within the TOS. The current Cams use muting, blocking and flagging to help with moderation but how likely would a coven/house mate flag their own members espicially if they like what they see?

I do believe the standard cams were intended to be open to the world. "You do not need to be logged in to see Vampire Rave webcams." This means anyone that browses to Vampire Rave can view them. Currently muting and blocking will stop them from talking/chatting to you but not from viewing the stream. Premium members can block anonymous viewers from chatting automatically but not from viewing the stream. I some what agree that blocked persons shouldn't be allowed to view your camera, but what would stop them from logging out and watching it or even using another browser to view it anonymously?

Cancer may see it that if you want a private cam session you could easily use your webcam outside of the vampire rave. This is of course just speculation. I do not know exactly what Cancer intended.

As far as "a barrier to prevent idiots from joining this site" we do have that.

Account can remain inactive for up to 180 days before deletion,
Can't bite other members,
Can't reply to or start public Forum threads,
Can't submit entries to the Database,
Can't submit links to the Open Link Directory,
Can't stalk other members,
Can't post Announcements ,
Can't Post Events,
Can't post to Vampbox and other public Chatrooms,
Can't be inducted by a Vampire Rave Society,
Can't create Member Pages,
Can't create public polls,
Can't start a Dark Network Group,
Can't submit member articles to the Vampire Rave article base,
Can't apply to become an Acolyte,
Can't act as a Mentor,
Can't petition a Society for membership,
and Ratings are worth 1/100th of the rating of a level 100 member.

This is all intentional and in my opinion genius.

WISHLIST:

A chart showing which profiles belong to who OR a hard limit of two profiles per person.

I'd like the option of being factionless at level 60.

It would also be nice if you could filter members by their reported gender, age, and level.

A lot of the mentorships and covens are virtually dead, it would be nice to clean those out.

Its not really a barrier against idiots because even fools can have patience enough to get to a level that allows them to troll or be a nuisance.

When I say blocked people shouldn't be allowed in the cam, I of course mean posting rights, stopping them viewing would be better too but obviously that is easier said than done but if you can stop a signed in member from actually posting in the cam, then anon or not, they cannot post (assuming you have anon chat off), so while they can view, they cannot interfere or troll.

I believe that it is already that way. From what I understand, if you have a member blocked, they cannot message you in cam. I could be wrong though as I have no one blocked.

I am excited to see all the new things! I am a bit nervous on what will happen to our current profiles but oh well whatever not like we cant just code them again if need be right? I hope that it will bring new members and maybe even some of our older members that havent been active in a while back if the news spreads... I mean come on you know some of us older members are still in touch with other older members. :) While yes the chat thing in covens would be cool... I agree it would be impossible to monitor it all the time and make sure people are behaving... not to mention theres no real good way to see if someone is abusing the leveling up with the feature if its in a society. I mean how many society members are going to rat on another member right? It would be cool if there were a rule that you can't change your name more than a designated amount of times per month or year or something... lol. THAT gets annoying... Not because I am concerned with being in the top or anything, it just gets annoying in my opinion. All I know is I think is it is going to be great when it is all said and done and Cancer can sit back and take a break! Someone needs to buy that man a 12 pack of beer or a bottle of bourbon because he is working his fingers and brain to death. :)

Wouldn't it be interesting if, a coven master could be overthrown by a certain percentage of his or her membership?

By this I mean, if a certain percentage (say 80% to 90%) of a membership could take a vote and overthrow a coven master. Now, the coven wouldn't necessarily close. It would go to the next highest ranking sire in said coven.

The coven would only close if, there were no other sire in the coven.

Not that this is even possible. I just think it would be interesting.

Allowing a finite number of name changes would be most welcome.
Either that, or judt make a name change level the member back to Mosquito.

name changes can be a pain especially if said member changes it on a daily basis, I like the limit on how many name changes you can do top prevent members from trying to hide.

I've been here a long time too, a lot longer than this profile shows. I have never attempted to have more than two profiles at any one time. That's enough for me but if you want older members in here then making it more tech oriented just because you can is not a good idea. As soon as that happened before, people started to leave. I want to enjoy this place and not have to figure out how to do something that is too complicated. The majority of newcomers don't understand what they are supposed to do and I think that should be incorporated into the lead in page. I also think the person should be allowed at least thirty to sixty minutes to create a profile and understand that is the concept here and not "ask" before it shows up on the profile page. You can build a nice profile without giving away all your personal details. I hate rating because on many pages there isn't really a profile there. I've never understood the concept of honor so I don't give any. I think that could be dropped along with mentorships. They are just another form of coven and why I don't belong to one. I don't have the time to worry about posting in yet another group. Other than that, anything that makes it easier to build a decent premium or free profile would please me and not harder.

...I don't know if that is a good Idea. The members of the these sites got different "believe" and for so, I don't think will work. I do prefer if they stay separated.

You are right that the members could think and believe differently but this forum is already shared on all the websites, all our profiles are the same on all, ect. So the interactions are already possible.Im still undecided if I would like it or not

A forum search could be useful, it could cut down on threads needing admin interventions.

On the name change issue I would like to see some restrictions. One game I play you can only change your name once a week. Here I would like to see it once a month for Prem accounts.
