The Rhode Island Science Fiction Club is a social organization with a diverse membership. The group has interests in books, comics, movies, gaming, tv, art, writing, anime, horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and more.
Membership is open to adults (18+). There are approximately 25-30 members, ranging in age from 18 to 65. Meetings are generally the third Saturday of every month and include BBQs, going to the movies, bowling, visiting the zoo, PawSox games, Lazertag, or anything else the group can think up. Meeting attendance varies, depending on the the season and the activity for that month.
Besides the official meetings, there other group or sub-group gatherings, such as movie nights, and gaming sessions. The club also produces a cable tv public access show, Sci-Fi Journal, and a bi-monthly newsletter, Graffiti, which cover a variety of topics in science fiction, fantasy and horror. There is also a Yahoo email list which serves as the primary communication tool for the club, along with this web site.
Membership dues are $15 a year for individuals or $20 for couples/families. Anyone interested in joining is invited to attend meetings for a three month trial period before becoming full members. Dues cover operating costs such as the P.O. box, web site and newsletter publication.
