The story takes place in an age where demi-humans, more casually known as "demis", have slowly started to become accepted into human society. Tetsuo Takahashi is a biology teacher who ends up teaching three such demis, hoping to understand more about them while also managing to catch their attention. (from Wikipedia)

Tetsuo wants to write a thesis on demis because he thinks they are cool. Initially he is quite distressed at how he will meet demis to interview. Imagine his shock when he finds himself not only teaching three demi-humans but the school has also employed a demi as a teacher!

The first demi Tetsuo meets is a vampire girl, Hikari Takanashi. She asks for his help when her friend becomes ill and needs to be carried to the nurse's station. He arrives to help her friend to discover the friend is a dullahan with her head missing. Hikari quickly explains that she has already carried the head to the station bu the body was too heavy.
On the way to the nurse's station they meet with a snow woman who has overheated during gym class.
Hikari especially loves the snow woman because vampires love the cold and the snow woman is indeed cold; which leads Hikari to imagine the hot blood running through the cold body. Every chance she gets she attaches herself to Yuki(the snow woman).
Vampires hate the sun, it is simply too hot and they love the cold. Garlic tastes great. Crosses are so middle school! Stakes to the heart are definitely fatal but they are also fatal to humans. She has never sucked blood directly from a human but gets a supplemental blood pack from the government once a month. She loves tomato juice because it reminds her of blood.
Sucking blood directly from a human is sort of a closely bonding sexual thing which she has never done because she has never been in love.
She thinks vampires who live without drinking blood are amazing; the same way humans who live on a vegetarian diet are amazing to other humans.
