I had a chance to see this show, and I have to say I enjoyed it, even though it was not what I expected. Like most shows on the Las Vegas strip, it involves music, magic, and topless dancers. The dancers are the stars of the show, but the aerial dancers, Ceese and Catie, billed as the "Rocket Man and Wife", truly stole the show. They were Awesome! The ribbon dancing acrobatics were amazing, too.
The stage dancers were gorgeous of course, and spent as much time in glamourous, erotic costumes as they did out of them. They danced to some great music, mostly 80's guitar rock, which I really enjoyed and thought in every case fit perfectly.
Until the "Rock Star" showed up. This is someone who is embraced during the show who is supposed to become a rock star. You know, I can't fault him for his singing, but instead for his choice of songs. After his embrace, he sang "Come Sail Away" by Styx. A great song, and he did OK with it, but WTF? did it have to do with becoming a vampire?? Later, he appears and sings "Stairway to Heaven" as the Queen beguiles us... again, I can almost... almost understand this. In both cases, it seems this is supposed to showcase his vocal range, I guess.
But the one who really was a disappointment was the "Lord Vampire". I've seen reviews of Garin Bader before, but have not seen other performances by him. He's supposed to be a top notch pianist and magician. He was sadly off his game the night we saw the show if this is the case. But he was good for a laugh. His magic bits were tired old tricks that everyone had already seen. I don't think anyone applauded his tricks, except for when he was locked in the trunk for his "esape trick", after losing a battle with the Rocket Man. As for his musical prowess, perhaps he is a fine pianist, but on stage he was obviously off the pre-recorded music track.
As for his piano serenade, however, I have three words that saved that bit: Topless Gothic Ballerinas. The dancers were quite skilled not only as stage rock dancers, but as classical ballerinas. They came out of the grand piano that he was playing, and they even seemed to change their costumes in there at one point (a good illusion). This explains why the piano was fake, but he was WAY off on his flourishes which cheesed up his part. But the dancing was wonderful.
The show is billed as "erotic" 18+ review, and it had some very good seductive moments. But the only thing that really had any bite was the price tag.
Only in Vegas...
Cheesy in that class ic RHPS way.
This is something I would see!! Cirque de Soile style, and possible a good story line.
