I meant to ask that diffrently. What do you know about glyphs ,and do you use them or would you if you knew them?
Glyphs of any kind, vampiric or not, are simply another method of communications either via this world with the other side, dimensional gateways, spacial distortions, or paper and pen. Nothing peculiar about them. They are the same as runes or any other way of communication.
Some do use them on a daily basis, it does not have to be for religious purposes. Though the older forms have been lost through the centuries, yours are half correct. I will not stated as to which ones.
I have heard of them dont know much about them but If I did I would use them.
i don't know nothing about them really. but they look really cool and i would use them if i understood them.
I dont really know much about them eiher but i am going to learn
thanks for this post .
any system of comunication has its good and bad points this one is a simplier one for vampire and the vampire society, allowing to create its own writing, plus a language weather it is writen or spoken is what base the a society, its soul sort of speak, so it is a good thing, but as we live amongs others we have to adapt and mealt in sort of, not totaly but fit in to be able to fonction.
The Temple of the Knights of satan uses a form of glyphs for Temple log entries, new inductions, and ceremonial purposes.
I like to look at glyphs, the symmetry pleases me.
As I don't know anyone else with any real interest in them, I don't see the point in useing them as a form of communication.
I know of quite a few and use them sometimes.I use them in spell work. Also some personal information in my personal Grimoire.I useally use runes or Angelic.
KA
In the times of the ancients, some of the glyphs were used as a source of identity at grave sites, and or majesty sites...Such as thrones of power, temples etc. It is assumed correctly that very few use them in these future times, as there is really no need. But a few arcane societies still use them for clergical purposes.
There are powers in unknown things such as glyphs if use in the right ways, this goes for all items of power. Enchanted or not.
Glyphs themselves are given certain attributes from ethereal beings. Such are reasons why they are here in the material in the first place.
I am sorry, but these "gliphs" seem absurdly useless to me.
They would be, again it is only deep religious social structures that use them, such as the catholic church...As they have their own doctrine of glyphs. But the "vampire" glyphs are used only by role players.
I'm currently learning Theban for use in my own BOS but aside from that, I can't really see any use for them.
Aha I see, "vampire" gliphs for roleplayers, do not exist at all.
Who is discussing here what?
The ancient glyphs existed, what were believed to be the "vampire" glyphs, as I have stated in an above post, but the snapshot at the top post is for roleplay use alone.
I would like to ask the thread master what website...If any, he chose it from, a link will do nicely. Just to prove a point, or me wrong.
I dont see why is the capacity of the rave wasted on nonsense.
I do not use glyphs at all since that was the original post.
I do use runes but that is for another thread.
I know of them yet I have yet to learn them it would be interesting to know how to use / read them
I have used glyphs and runes in my magikal work also my name is in runes. I write spells in this language.
Thank you for your enlightenment and information Soulshroude.
As for anyone else who finds this information "useless" Many find this to be important. It is an ancient language and different mode of communication. It would behoove all of us to become more informative regarding ancient civilizations.
Ignorance breds intolerance afterall.
i do not know much about them but I am willing to learn.:)
I thankyou for the comment Mild, but as most in the present do not fine ancient civilizations as important as modern cultures, it would become futile to instill old idealisms on society.
But, as this would seem a bit contradictory, since most of the members of the Rave are involved in some macabre rites, I would reiterate into a more branching communicate...
Some writings, teachings, letterings, symbols and or allegories are best left to presumtions as the natural instincts of modern cultures tend to shun anything out of the ordinary...It may be mob mentallity, maybe not...but regardless, it is still present and cannot be avoided.
Glyphs are fascinating but I have never used them as of yet.
i have used many glyphs in the past. not necessarily vampire glyphs though.
either i was or wasnt a vampire, i think it would be kool to do, so if i knew about glyphs id use,
I can't see how glyphs can really be vampiric
If you type english words in wingdings, you haven't made a new language, you have simply put the same language in a different (odd looking) font is all
The picture kindly supplied above is like a spy wheel which will tell you what letters represent what glyph character - it won't work a great deal of eastern european or ancient languages.
This can only be a modern thing surely
I am not familiar with vampires using glyphs in the books that i have read. I guess the value of the writing would be based on what the author of the book they were in intended for them. If you were to use them yourself they would hold like anything else the amount of energy that you give them based on your belief in them.
I would use them if I had more skill..but for now I think I will just stick with english.
well, the druids used glyphs known as ogham, and they bare not a true written language like futhark or greek, but more a sort of code or cypher. they could communicate in a crowded room using their hands to make oghams, and nobody else would know what they are on about. i dont know if those "vampire glyphs" are historic runes, or something invented for a modern game - they look Klingon to me.
whether such sigils have any magical power, i cannot say - other than the fact that any symbol or image can be used to concentrate the mind on a single purpose - be it an ancient glyph, a family seal, a flag, or a corporate logo.
oh - i would like to point out that the above alphabet is the modern 26 letter alphabet - there is no theta in it, and the letter V is a modern letter that did not exist in ancient times. it wasn't added until the eleventh century
Glyphs are very intriguing. I do not know them, but, if I did I would use them. I do, however, know runes, and use them.
It's just like learning Chinese or German, or something, it doesn't matter if you can use them if noone you want to communicate with can read them.
found this very interesting. But the problem is English is hard enough.
Very cool looking symbols, where did this exact set originate from?
Well any types of symbols were used to transfer information or messages aka possible types of technology i would use them as well
The name of the true glyphs was lost centuries ago, thus the term "vampire" is used in any language. I think the glyphs dated back into early Mesopotamia...Early records of relics found near certain locations proved the existance of such glyphs.
A short rundown is an example website
here
The assumptian is also correct from the posts by Karnstein, about the greek symbol of Theta (V), is not in the glyph system. But as the glyphs themselves were not nessessarily a form of writing, more along the lines like that of the Egyptian heiroglyphics. Telling a story, not a sentence structure.
Another piece of information is the fact that the early Sumerians, Mesopotamiam's, Arkadians etc, used ruffly the same form of "vampire" glyphs for ceremonial purposes and various other reasons as well.
I personally would not use them i mean they would probably be good or fun for people to write with them, but i see no point in using them when i person knows how to write normally...
I've only heard of them in the movies and am not sure if I would use them
They look similar to Cuneiforms - a valid language system in it's own day (circa 3000BC) but does anyone know how to write and/or read them now?
I think while we might know individual symbols, stringing them together into coherent thought patterns might be beyond us. Therefore their relevance in magical practices could be debated.
I have never seen your system of glyphs, but one can use glyphs as a means to summon familiars.
In a nutshell, a familiar is summoned to perform a specific taks. Glyphs are identifed from the first inital in each word of the task. The identifed glyphs form a sigil which is used in a ritual to summon the familiar. The familiar's name is also formed from the first letter in each task.
Check out the book:
Familiar Spirits: A Practical Guide for Witches and Magicians. by Donals Tyson.
I have no idea about them and yea.. I would use them if I could understand it
i have no ideal but if you gave me a link i would like to look at it sounds intresting
Soulshroude,
I can understand that glyphs would form a sort of picture story board, but the vampiric glyphs of the original post provided a direct 'translation' between individual letters of the a western alphabet and each glyph
I guess it would depend on what exactly you were using the glyphs for.
I do not know enough about them to decide if i wuld use them or not.. Will have to read more on them.
glyphs are a great thing for decoration as well as spells
I would use them most deffinatly if i knew how to read them. I may have to read more into this
I don't know a lot about them, so I don't know if I would use them if I did.
The glyphs look really cool but it would be a nightmare getting my computer to reproduce them. I could see using them for logs but I wouldn't use them to mark members. For me it makes it too easy for people to find you if they are looking. For example, Blade is able to find each human helper and vampire place because it was marked by glyphs. Maybe he wouldn't have had such an easy time if glyphs weren't used. (I know it's only make believe but I thought it would make a good example)
many glphs are forms of old writing, yes i would use them. much like kids today that text message and have there own unique version of the alphabet.
I guess I was mistaken on my perception on what glyphs were. I assumed that they were nothing more than another written language with the purpose of communicating to certain select people that knew it.
i dont know much about them. but this seems like sumthing vimpires might use.
It is just a form of writing. What does it matter if we use them or not. It would be the equivalent of writing Aeremaic and saying that it is a secret code for blonds!
some people use them for protection some are seen to have magic powers.
I used to cast runes for meaning when I was younger. It was a lot of fun. Not always accurate but fun none the less. These though I am not familiar with. Might just be as had been said another form.
Very good conjecture Art, while some glyphs are used for story telling, others such as runes themselves are used for writing purposes. This is common sense to some. But the alphabet in general thta is thread is base for discussion are miscalculated.
The true glyphs themselves offer both story and parchment capabilities. Coming close to the true glyphs themselves are both the Theban, and Northman runes.
I have not heard of this before but it does sound interesting to have a way to communicate that no one else understands is cool
Really it would depend on what you
could do w/them and what the drawbacks
of using them was to answer this
question properly...
If there were no drawbacks and it wasn't
used only for bad things but could be used
for stuff that appealed to me (and were
fool proof, because I am a bit of a clutz),
sure...I'd use them.
I do not know them, but I would use them. I am planning to try to learn them now.
I think they have no use in modern times. Maybe they could be used as an entertainment purpose. In other times I am sure they were used for specific puposes as in any type of language used today. Decifering them is one thing and using them in there proper manner.
Something that would really make a good topic to learn more about.
i dont know how to read them or use them but if i did i would probly use them
i know very little about glyphs.
they are pretty radd.
i would use them, sure, if i knew more about them.
I worked with an artist once who for the purpose of the then project was recreating petroglyphs...I found the images to be simplistic and haunting as these glyphs generally are associated with prehistoric peoples...anyway...glyphs are quite elegant and for THIS reason I find them beautiful...if I understood how to use this system I would probably use it...
From an artistic standpoint I definitely would, though for secrecy in this day and age I would opt for a good encryption key.
i tend to use glyphs, runic messaging, if its something important/secret or if i just feel like writing in such a way i'll use them, i suppose it all boils down to whether you can be bothered learning them and if you know anyone who can read them
I probably wouldn't. Writing in English works better for me.
I think it is just another form of writing I do use glyphs of sorts. I have written whole stories in Ojibwe syllabics
I would be interested in knowing this, this is very interesting to know..would want to now more about this..
it is hard to get hold of to a point with the example that is up now it is just more of a code still English just substituted letters for glyphs where writing in Ojibwe Syllabics is in the Ojibwe language and there is a symbol used to show a syllable not a letter
I do use them every now and then, usually for spell work
Soulshroude said it well thru this entire thread. I personally like my own language because it is what I am accustomed to using. If I had to learn another language I would probably have to write in my first learned language and then translate them out.
I know nothing of Vampire Glyphs, but I have always wanted to learn the Maya Glyphs even though that maybe somewhat impossible due to the fact that only 4 remaining codex exist now thanks to the burning of their works during the invasion of their cities.
I know nothing about them, though it'd be cool to. I'd probably use them for all sorts of stuff if I did, they're cool looking lol
The "vampire Runes" shown above are a recent addition to lost vampire lore, which has been missing all this time. I wonder where it comes from?
I use the Norse Runes (FUTHARK) which are seen on standing stones, weapons, and jewelry in the north west UK and Viking areas in the north west of Europe since at least 800 ce. The other set of runes shown above are in modern use by Witches, especially those of the Gardenarian Tradition, and are called the Theban Alphabet. It is no more than 100 years old.
I have never used them myself but have seen my mom use them before. Personally I think it would just be to much work to use them.
i think one of the reasons they fascinate people so is because they dont understand them, much is our human nature like that, we become intrigued by that which we do not understand
Interestingly enough the vampire runes seam to be based on the English alphabet.
You speak of the same glyphs that was used in the blade movies. I would say yes and learn and study what ones means and stand for. I wouldn`t mind seeing it in this modern day high tech world we all live in.
I would use them with my friends and I would probably try and be the over achever and learn the language that was spoken.
It would be very interesting to learn about and I would say I would use them and enjoy teaching them to my daughter.
Never heard of them. Don't see any reason to use them though, unless for a secret message, lol.
