In sleep, he sang to me. In dreams, he came. That voice which calls to me and speaks my name. And do I dream again? For now I find the Phantom of the Opera is there, inside my mind.
This is Christine in 'Love Never Dies', the sequel to 'Phantom of the Opera' -portrayed by the beautiful and amazingly talented Anna O' Byrne.
In LND, 10 years have passed since the events of POTO, Christine is married to Raoul and they have a son together. She is reunited with Erik, the phantom and the love and passion are still there, burning brighter than ever..
In this, my favourite scene from LND, Christine goes against her husband's wishes and performs the aria the phantom has written especially for her, once again falling under the spell of her 'Angel of Music'. It is at this point that Christine admits to herself, and pretty much everyone around her, that she is in love with the phantom. She looks at Raoul with sorrow and regret, for she has loved him all these years, just not as deeply or passionately as she loves Erik. And she knows that she cannot deny it any longer. And you can see the love in her eyes as she slowly looks up at the Phantom. It's as if she is silently saying to him "OK, you win. I am yours. I love you and I surrender to you".
So romantic! *Sigh*
And the romance is heightened by the haunting melody of the song, the lyrics which so perfectly describe the experience of falling in love, and the beautiful and gothic 'Peacock' costume that Christine wears.
This is probably my second-favourite scene from a musical EVER. (After 'Music of the Night' from Phantom)
