To make it succinct, I appreciate all art and am a lover of all things dark.
Specifically, I have been a fan of horror for most of my life. This isn't just restricted to movies and books, but all forms; visual art (paintings, sculptures, etc.), performance art (film, plays, ballet, opera), literature (poetry, short and long fiction, non-fiction, comics), games (board and video games) as well as music.
I am a fan of most music, classical, jazz, rock, punk, electronic, progressive, even rap and hip hop to a certain degree, certainly not country though. My true speciality is heavy metal though. I own well over 1000 CDs, 300+ LPs, and a couple tapes, most of which are metal. I've travelled out of province and out of country (off continent once too) multiples to see metal shows. I also play the drums, and while I have played with small local bands in the past, now I mostly play on my own or with some friends for our own enjoyment.
At heart I am a collector, I told you of my music collection, but that is naught but a small part of my massive collections. I have around a thousand films or so, most of which are horror, though I do have a sizeable crime/noir collection. My favourite of which is F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent classic Nosferatu. I also own several hundred books, with a smattering of categories, mainly fantasical and horror fiction, but with a fair dose of most other types of literature. These days I have begun collecting rare and/or signed limited edition books, in this collection resides roughly 80 books at the moment. In addition to these collection I also have stacks of comics and graphic novels, much of it is DC/Vertigo comics and again surprise, surprise, horror comics.
When it comes to my collections (other than my metal collection) I have a bit of a love for vampires (an understatement). Some of my most prized possessions are limited or collectors editions of some of the most famous vampire stories in history. Amongst them is a beautiful leather bound signed and illustrated edition of Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla (with the Evil Guest) as well as a massively oversized printing of Stephen King's classic 'Salem's Lot with photography from Jerry Uelsmann.
I don't watch much TV but do enjoy some MMA every now and again, used to follow it intently. I also enjoy The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, American Horror Story and Hemlock Grove. Watched the first 4 seasons of True Blood, but I still gotta catch up. Normally when I watch a series it's a season or two all at once, most likely on Netflix. Can't stand watching shows week to week.
I am employed by a rather large retailer, which is an abysmally depressing job, but I don't define myself by it. I also write fiction, non-fiction and poetry, mostly with dark themes. I like to get together with friends and go out for drinks on occasion, but am not a heavy drinker in general. My social gatherings are more often sitting around the couch watching flicks with friends or playing games.
That's it, I got nothing else.
