To answer your question about the Guinevere/Modred connection in my profile:

Mordred is mentioned in many versions of the Arthurian legend and his role and relationship to Arthur differs slightly in each.

In earlier writings such as Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae, the story goes that Arthur left Mordred in charge while he went to war in Rome.

While in charge Mordred declares himself king and marries Guinevere. Guinevere is considered a traitor and adulteress.



It's not until later versions of the legend that Guinevere, still in the role of the adulteress, is connected to Lancelot.
