one day my oldest son asked me if he can smoke in the house with his buddies, i said yes, but first i want you to make sure your room is cleaned, your laundry put away, no dishes in the sink, I need you to sweep & mop the kitchen floor, clean the bathroom, wipe down all window. And do your homework first! So he and his buddies did what i asked. They all helped out. Well about an hour and a half later i smelled something funny, I went into his room and asked what was he doing?? He answered "you said i could smoke!, but didn't ask what." OK, my fault, so i left them alone.
The next day my son comes home from school and asked again if he and his buddies can smoke. I said sure!. But first you need to sweep and mop the kitchen, vaccum, clean your room, this time i need the frig cleaned, wipe the bottle of mayo, put it on the counter, also the bottle of mustard, suryp, ect then clean the inside of the frig. also the top. after i need the blinds cleaned. He and his buddies did as i asked once again. About an hour and a half later the house got quiet and everyone left. I found my son in his room sleeping. I asked what happened? His reply was "Im too tierd to get high!!"
Well i sat on the bed and tried to explain to him that regardless of the law. ( i might get in trouble for this) I see no harm in drinking or drugs as long as you take care of your chores first. When you become an adult and want to do the same, make sure your bills are paid, rent, gas, water groceries, ect... your house is cleaned, then you can kick back and drink up or smoke up all you want. He looked at me and said "What Ever" and fell asleep.
Well many years have past, and this last time he come home from the army, he gave me his little pipe, and said "You can have this i dont want it. I was never able to get high in peace and enjoy myself with out thinking if my chores where done. Mom thank you for scaring me for the rest of my life I never smoked again but i did drink"
I put it away in a littlel memory box that i have for each of my children along with little things i've keeped like all his baby teeth.
