1) In a famous line from the film A Few Good Men, Jack Nicholson confronts a badgering attorney, shouting, “You can’t handle the truth!” Is it perhaps a fact that Americans cannot “handle the truth” about their world? Explain.





2) Near the beginning of the film Lawrence of Arabia, T.E. Lawrence impresses the other officers in his unit by holding his hand over a flame longer than seems humanly possible. One of the officers tries the same stunt and immediately pulls his hand away saying, “Ow! That damn well hurts…What’s the trick then?” Lawrence replies, “The trick…is not minding that it hurts.” To what extent does mind over matter and/or attitude play a role in life? Explain.
