Indian food

Indian food is different from rest of the world not only in taste but also in cooking methods. It reflects a perfect blend of various cultures and ages. Just like Indian culture, food in India has also been influenced by various civilizations, which have contributed their share in its overall development and the present form.

Foods of India are better known for its spiciness. Throughout India, be it North India or South India, spices are used generously in food. But one must not forget that every single spice used in Indian dishes carries some or the other nutritional as well as medicinal properties.

North Indian food

Food in the north India, to begin with, Kashmiri cuisines reflect strong Central Asian influences. In Kashmir, mostly all the dishes are prepared around the main course of rice found abundantly in the beautiful valley. Another delicious item cooked here is the 'Saag' that is prepared with a green leafy vegetable known as the 'Hak'.

But on the other hand states like the Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh show high consumption of chapatis as staple food. Again, these chapatis are prepared with a variety of flours such as wheat, rice, maida, besan etc. Besides chapatis other closely related breads baked in these regions include Tandoori, Rumaali and Naan etc. However in the northern region impact of Mughlai food is quite obvious.

West Indian Food

In western India, the desert cuisine is famous for its unique taste and varieties of food. Rajasthan and Gujarat are the states that represent the desseert flavor of Indian food. Here an immense variety of dals (grams)and achars (pickles/preserves) is used that simply substitutes the relative lack of fresh vegetables in these areas.

In the states like Maharashtra, the food is usually a mix of both north as well as south cooking styles. Here people use both the rice and the wheat with same interest. Along the coastline of Mumbai a wide variety of fishes is available. Some of the delicious preparations include dishes like the Bombay Prawn and Pomfret.

In Goa, that is further down towards south, one can notice Portuguese influence in the cooking style as well as in the dishes. Some of the major dishes of this regiun are the sweet and sour Vindaloo, duck baffad, sorpotel and egg molie etc.

East Indian Food

In the eastern India, the Bengali and Assamese styles of cooking are noticeable. The staple food of Bengalis is the yummy combination of rice and fish. Usually the Bengalis love eating varieties of fishes. A special way of preparing the delicacy known as 'Hilsa'(type of fish) is by wrapping it in the pumpkin leaf and then cooking it. Another unusual ingredient that is commonly used in the Bengali cooking is the 'Bamboo Shoot'. Various sweets prepared in this region, by using milk include the 'Roshogollas', 'Sandesh', 'Cham-cham' and many more.

South Indian Food

In the southern India, the states make great use of spices, fishes and coconuts, as most of them have coastal kitchens. In the foods of Tamil Nadu use of tamarind is frequently made in order to impart sourness to the dishes. It simply distinguishes the Tamil Food from other cuisines.

The cooking style of Andhra Pradesh is supposed to make excessive use of chilies, which is obviously to improve the taste of the dishes.

In Kerala, some of the delicious dishes are thelamb stew and appams, Malabar fried prawns, Idlis, Dosas, fish molie and rice puttu. Another famous item of this region is the sweetened coconut milk. Yet another dish is Puttu, which is glutinous rice powder steamed like a pudding in a bamboo shoot.

Indian Marriage

08:55 Nov 23 2011

In India how the marriage happens am going to tell about that . First of all parents of boys go to girls house and if they like that gal in all respect and if the gals parents like the boy in all respect then the thing continuous further .boy and gal see other also in that day. Then there is 1 thing which is not done so much nowadays but still done in many marriages that is dowry system that gals father will have to give gifts and quite a lum sum cash to boys family before marriage otherwise it cant go further but this dowry process has been legally band as due to this gals suffered a lot earlier from boys family. Now about ritual part first engagement is done by exchanging rings between gal and boy and gift exchange.then turmeric putting day comes where gal and boy are pampered with all sort of herb treatment made at home so that they glow more then there is other day is three when designs with herbs are made on gals hand where gals family have fun and song and dance. Last the marriage day when gal and boy take 7 round around fire taking 7 oaths in the presence of priest and family of both and the boy puts red powder like thing in gals hair. Which is most imp symbol that she is married. In India whether it is love or arrange marriage without that ritual marriage is not complete. After marriage they have feast.

In our tradition though parents fixd the guy for marriage yet nowadays younger generation do marry the person they love many times. I personally believe in humanity and love more than any tradition and religion because we are who made all this tradition nt tradition made us.though i respect my tradition and culture but i cant support each and every point . I wl marry the person whom i wl love but who so ever wl cum to my life he wil obviously have some good qualities in him as human being . I wl try to convince my parents abt him.if they stil dnt allow i wl prefer to be alone than marrying a person whom i dnt love, becoz i think if we marry a person whom we dnt love we may not be so loving towards them that will be hurting for both of us.

People of India

The people of India have had a continuous civilization since 2500 B.C., when the inhabitants of the Indus River valley developed an urban culture based on commerce and sustained by agricultural trade. During the second millennium B.C., pastoral, Aryan-speaking tribes migrated from the northwest into the subcontinent. As they settled in the middle Ganges River valley, they adapted to antecedent cultures. The political map of ancient and medieval India was made up of myriad kingdoms with fluctuating boundaries. In the 4th and 5th centuries A.D., northern India was unified under the Gupta Dynasty. During this period, known as India's Golden Age, Hindu culture and political administration reached new heights. Indian culture has certan important features like tradition of tolerance adding to richness and variety of Indian life, sense of synthesis reflected in racial harmony , universal outlook such as world is one family or world is one nest. Philosophical outlook with its basis in the belief in the unity of creation. And respect for individual based on the philosophical equation of the soul and oversoul.

A number of faiths and religions have merged in India and exist simultaneously. India is a country with "Unity in Diversity".. Traditions and rituals in India have become an integral part of everyday life.

Right from birth to death, an Indian keeps on performing various customs and traditions. Almost every occasion in India (birth, engagement, marriage, death and so on) has a ceremony attached to it. Following are some of the Indian customs:

Birth Ceremony

Soon after the birth of a child, a ceremony for naming the child takes place. A priest tells the first alphabet from which the name of the child should start.

Traditional Welcome

Indians believe in the phrase "Atithi Devo Bhava", meaning a guest is the reflection of God. In the traditional welcome, the guest is garlanded and a tikka (vermillion) is put on his/her forehead. Even the Tourism Ministry of India has launched the 'Atithi Devo Bhava' campaign to make people aware of India's rich culture and traditions.

Wedding Ceremony

Weddings are conducted in India with great fanfare, following various customs and rituals. The wedding is not a single day affair in India; rather, the functions carry on for 3 - 4 or even more days.

Namaskar/Namaste

The most popular form of greeting, especially the elders, is to say Namaste with the hands joined at the chest level. It is also used at the time of farewell.

Lighting Lamp/Diya

In almost every Indian household, a lamp/diya is lighted before the altar of God in the morning. Some people light the lamp in evening also.

Prostrating Before Parents and Elders

Indians prostrate before their parents, elders and teachers by touching their feet. The elders in turn place their hand on prostrating person's head and bless him/her.

Death Ceremony

After a person passes away, the cremation is done according to certain rituals. The rituals continue a few days after the death.

Love acceptance

14:36 Nov 21 2011
Times Read: 600

it is song not poem , i love this song

When ur heart begins to incline towards someone

When words rise to your lip only to halt

When eyes began to signal assent to each other

Speak off you are began to fall in love

When your heart begins to desire another persons happiness

This is not amusement this is true love

What is gained by trying to suppress sandstorm

What is the use of hiding love away in the heart

When a lover begins to be more precious than your own life

Speak off you are in love

If her fragrance is in ur own breathe

If her dreams in ur own eyes

When your heart no longer delighted by any other beautiful face

Speak off you are in love

When u find out life has no meaning without her

And when seems to be burden without her

Speak off you are in love
