I find it odd that some people hold themselves in such high regard that they can belittle the profiles of others, especially basic members who have little recourse, while expecting adulation from all for their own.
Not everyone is as computer literate as some Premium members seem to be, but I daresay, many have tried to overcome that deficiency and worked hard to express themselves. They leave it hanging out for all to see and put themselves at risk for low ratings that they are completely unaware of.
I have been told that certain houses and covens advise their members to rate their fellow members high and all others low in order to build favor.
Too bad. I rate a 10 or I don't rate at all. I would rather rate someone who really tried but doesn't have the experience or knowledge to do better, than to bow to someone who can create a beautiful Premium profile but can't put two words together in a sentence.
This isn't about Premium versus Basic. I respect those who have chosen to become Premium members, I might do the same myself. There are some truly wonderful Premium members here. And there are some truly self-righteous basic members as well.
I do believe though that if you are going to rate anyone you should have the courage of your convictions and not hide behind your membership so that it doesn't appear. Yes, that is your right. That doesn't make it right.
Well off my soap box and I will wait patiently for the attacks.

Thank you for your opinion and your insight. It actually is appreciated.
I personally don't mind what "I" am rated, really doesn't matter. I don't take it that seriously. And it will not affect the way I rate someone in return.
I do feel though for those who are trying and can't seem to get a break. There are many people here who are extremely helpful and are happy to mentor those who need it. I admire that.

The ratings (from those that I talk to and are all premium members like myself) are not just based off of the small talk that is placed into them or whether they are basic or premium members, but the actual work that is done to them.
Continuous types, poor grammar, bad spelling, and horrible punctuation come into play when one is rating.
I will rate someone a 1 if there is absolutely nothing on their page.
I will also rate low should the person be using their VR profile as a dating site (which it is not) or using it to bash someone.
I also wait to rate new members low- until they have something on their page- I give them a week nor more no less.
Also as you stated, it is our right to rate as we seem fit.
It is even stated in the manual- so it can not be wrong to rate some one low because you or anyone else thinks that it's based solely off of their graphics and their coding knowledge, because it isn't. There are plenty of VR members who have gotten 10's and 9's across the board and have absolutely no color or pictures on their profiles and are not premium members.
Want to know why?
Because their spelling, grammar, and punctuation is correct.
Also just a tad bit of information- as a premium member you can see all who rates you and what they gave you as a rate, also I am pretty sure basic members can as well now and if not, oh well it's a rate for pete's sake. They'll get over it. Also as a premium member, you can not "hide" what you rate someone. That is not within the premium member's powers.
Here is what a premium member can do as opposed to being a basic member:
What premium members CAN do
Taking rating as seriously as you are, you are missing the bigger picture of Vampire Rave. It is not solely based off of a rate some one gives you.
This is my rating stamp- and I stand by it, because I can:
I have rated you according to what I feel deemed fit for the work you put into your profile. Don't like it? Ask for a re-rate AFTER you have added to your profile. I will not just simply "re-rate you a 10" because you asked me to. EARN IT.
Perhaps you may need to re-evaluate your thinking, or at least I personally think so. :P

Of course, Nocturnal, you'll have to follow your own words and realize that the VR Manual does state that how a member rates is entirely up to them, therefore making shadowfever's rating criteria perfectly valid.

I agree Morrigon, Him and I have already talked about it. :)
He is allowed to think as he wishes, I was just throwing my own two cents out there. ;)
