I don't want to see
These red thoughts again
They hurt so much
And cut so deep
I don't know how much more
I will be able to think
If these red thoughts
Keep tearing me apart
You walk alone
Along the twisting path
Trees rise up to either side
Branches stretched
Out across the path
A tunnel with a ceiling
Painted in rich greens and browns
The floor is carpeted
With soft moss and grey dirt
This hall is dimly lit
By glimpses of sun like candle flickers
An endless dancing shadow
Stirred by whispers
Of a zephyr
I defy
Anything and everything
That will prevent me
From going beyond
The limits I don't accept
I will intensify
My life
In every aspect that matters
I'll become more
Than what was though
I will know peace
Happiness will last
From sun-up to infinity
For as long as I can
I'll hold on
So I will never cease
Striving to become more
Because I want to believe
More than anything else
To be
What a languorous day
Sitting back with cold pizza
Blowing smoke rings
To the sound of Alice Cooper’s Poison
The air is just cool enough to be noticed
Each breath a drink
Each movement an experience
Absorbing it all
Remembered moments
All those short bursts of pure life
The great indulgence
She had her hair in a ponytail
It was held back with a red hair tie
She looked back
At me as we walked down the hall
She was breathtaking
In blue denim capris and her mother’s flannel shirt
The sleeves were rolled just above her elbows.
I wished that she still liked me.
She grinned at me before turning around
I paid more attention to her than our Pokémon cards,
Nothing interested me like her
I will remember forever
What came next.
An imp looked at me from her eyes
“Let’s play truth or dare, I’ll go first”
We played the game tentatively
Slowly, it escalated until
She dared me to close my eyes.
A brief moment of warmth touches my face
“Just a friendly peck on the cheek.”
She says to me as she sits
Arms bracing her as she leans back
I knew what I had to do then
As she lay back, grinning
With lips shining like diamonds
Like she thought she’d won.
I leaned over her slowly
My arms vibrated
My breath shook
Then there was bliss
Soft cherry warmth met me
As the taste,
The texture,
The heat,
Stole my thoughts,
I knew true passion.
