I stole an idea from Silverbow, with permission of course. The other day she posted pictures in her journal of the yarn holder she made out of PVC pipe and other odds and ends. I thought it was a great idea, so I made one for myself.
The measurements on mine are different because I wanted mine a little smaller. I also used spring steel for the cross bars instead of the threader bars she used because I had the spring steel left over from another project. I'm extremely pleased with how it turned out. I've been using it all afternoon and have to say it's very helpful.
I also work on Heroghan squares. I figured I'd post pictures of some of the squares I've made as well. I have 4 that I've finished that are completely different patterns. The others that I have done are the same patterns as these, just with the colors in different orders.
I'm not thrilled with the last one. I like the pattern, but it's skewed for some reason. I may take it apart and redo it.
Also, it's difficult to tell from the picture, but the second square is a bunch of separate crochet strips woven together and then crocheted around the edges to hold it all together. I thought it would be difficult to make, but it was actually quite simple and I was really pleased with how it came out.
Just downloaded GIMP. I typically use Photoshop, so if anyone has any tips/tricks/suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

It really depends on what you are trying to do. There are extensive tuts all over the web and quite a few video tuts on youtube. That should get you started ;)
erm, I still use paintshop 7, to my satisfaction.
