I am dissapointed and disheartened by California. I have yet to read the entire opinion, but the idea that the masses can alter the constitution to subjegate and discriminate against goes against the very idea of liberty.

What if this tactic was thought of earlier? The south could have easily passed constitutional ammendments declaring african americans as second class citizens. Inter-racial marriage could easily be unconstitutional with such amendments as well. Maybe they could have ebbed the whole voting rights for all nonwhite land owners from the very beginning.

What kind of country have we become???

"All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression." -Thomas Jefferson

Your words ring so very true and it bothers me greatly that we send our soldiers to fight for freedom while taking away the free rights of our own citizens.

One must remember that we are a country of the people, by the people, and for the people (or something like that).

And the people are too busy being self-centered and imposing their beliefs upon the rest of us.

This really is simple - but it's those people who have been put in the positions of power (by the people) that can't get it in their heads what their purpose is.

Why is GAY marriage being banned by the United States Supreme Court? Because it's not the Christian thing to do. Somebody forgot to remind them of the separation of Church and State. Our Government is not to take any side or position with any religious group ... that's in the Constitution also ... yet, you see it all the time.

And here's my question. I thought the Supreme Court was the law of the land. If the Supreme Court says "this is legal" ... then it's legal. What is with all this bullshit from each individual state?

And even worse, California has now become the most hypocritical state in the Union. Why? Because GAY marriage is now illegal ... except for those thousands who were married under the law when it was legal. So, it's okay for some - but not for others.

Marriage: It's about LOVE; not SEX

[end rant]

For clarification: the US Supreme court has NOT ruled on the matter at all.

You are correct Meeper, the US Supreme court has not heard arguments regarding the constitutional aspects of same sex marraige. Until they do and make a judgement of the constitutional rights re: same sex marraige, the states are free to make their own rules. The issuance of marraige liscenses as well as the rules surrounding marraige and WHO can be married are not assigned to the Congress in teh constitutioin, therefore it is reserved for each state to make their own laws. This is why until recently 14 year olds could get married in certain Souther states, it is also why more free thinking states CAN sanction same sex marraiges.

I am sure that eventually this will be heard by the US Supreme Court, hopefully after the court is more open minded! In this case it may be best to avoid this comming before the Supreme Court for a while.

Exactly what kind of Liberty is this university selling?

“The Democratic Party platform is contrary to the mission of Liberty University and to Christian doctrine (supports abortion, federal funding of abortion, advocates repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, promotes the “LGBT” agenda, hate crimes, which include sexual orientation and gender identity, socialism, etc.)”

I somehow doubt that God sides with one party over the other. That being said, why would a religious university ban one party and allow others to still stand? I am pretty sure stances made by all parties do not live up to all religious doctrines. To think otherwise is an uninformed/uneducated opinion.

But the other main party is huge for their funding, makes a lot of difference in their comdenation. Money can buy all kinds of acceptance and forgiveness as long as you "play" straight & "normal".
