Chapter 5 - Danger in the Cavern

Paolo’s P.O.V.

The sky outside was till dark, I could see it from the window at the left side of my bed. It was almost one o’clock in the morning but I was still wake. I just could not sleep for she was there every time I close my eyes. She was all I could think about and I am so deadly worried about her.

A while ago after I arrived here in my home, I searched for Romina’s full name on the internet. I found nothing except a news article from a newspaper’s website. The news said:

"Clairson family was found dead in their house at Maria Cristina Village, Batangas, Philippines last November 30, 2000. The investigators said it was an animal attack since there was a small forest near the area of the village. The couples Alexis and Marriana Clairson and their eldest daughter Hannah Rose Clairson were found lying dead in their kitchen. They were all pale due to blood lost and they each have a pair of small holes on their neck. Their youngest daughter, Romina Rose Clairson, was in her friend’s house the night that the incident happened."

Her family died ten years ago, that might be the reason why she left our school. I did not know that because we were from different courses and I was too busy with my studies during that time so I had no time to wonder about that.

Now, I think the news was wrong. It was not an animal attack but a vampire attack because if not then why Romina did became a vampire assassin? Someone like her could not do things like fighting and killing vampires. She had to have a heavy reason to do such things. And yet that was ten years ago, everything had changed now. She was not the kittenish young lady anymore. The images of her being so sweet, playful and lively were already gone.

I could still recall how she used to smile at me every day at school even if I had always ignored her. She used to always greet me and she had always got no response from me. Truly I had been a snobbish jerk back then.

I also knew that she had always loved me in spite of the fact that she knew that I did not like her even a bit. Or so I was wrong, I have always loved her, I just did not know it. She had already left when I had realized how much she means to me. I was so focused on my studies because I had dreamed to be a successful computer engineer and because of that I had ignored my feeling for her but it was there, buried deep in my heart.

I had fulfilled my dream and even got a career here in abroad but I have never been completely happy. I had searched for her but destiny did not permit me to see her until I had this encounter with vampires.

Now I finally found her, but she was so different already, so cold and emotionless. She looked like she had long forgotten how too smile or laugh.

All I want now is to help her and show her again the happiness of life. I do not want her to live in the darkness and sadness. I do not want her to stay in the world of vampires. But how could I possibly help her when it is clear in her face that all she wants is a revenge for the family that she had lost and when it is also clear that she had already closed her heart to everyone.

She lingered in my mind and heart until sleep finally sank into the depths of me.

Romina’s P.O.V.

"Shall we have a sit my lady?" Jullius said and he directed me towards a seat near the bar’s counter when I gave him my yes nod.

He called a waiter once we were already seated.

A teenage vampire asked for our drinks, he have a very calm and gentle face. I would not know that he was a vampire if not by the color of his yellow eyes that signifies his being a class-C vampire, and if not by the dark eerie of aura that surrounding it. Yes, after years of fighting with their kind I could easily notice that weird aura of them.

"Chateau Margaux for me," I heard Jullius told the waiter. "How about you Celinea?"

"DRC for me," DRC or Domaine de la Romanee-Conti is my favorite brand of wine.

The waiter went to get our drinks and came back after a couple of minutes.

"So do you like the place?" Jullius said. He was sipping his wine while starring at me with such intense I knew would make the knees of any normal girl or woman shake with passion, but again, I am not normal.

"Yeah I like it," I answered, forcing another fake smile.

Then I heard the music changed from slow rock to mellow.

Jullius stood and went beside me, offering a hand, "Shall we dance my lady?"

I nodded and submitted my hand to him.

He then escorted me to the middle of what I think was a dance floor because it was a bit elevated and colorful lights were flashing around it.

I was really wondering at how they made this place a lot weird. One thirds of the room, the left side, was full of light, that part is where the casino games were being held. The other one third, the middle part, was flashing with colorful lights was the dance floor. The last one third of it, the right side, was dim and it is where the tables and chairs for drinking and chatting can be found.

The dancing continued and it made me feel more intimidated because we were so close that I could feel the coldness of his skin. Vampire’s coldness was literally like ice. But it’s not the coldness that intimidated me but our closeness that very moment and the deafening silence that surrounds us. I have never been close to anyone for the past ten years but I’m letting this creature to be this close to me just for the sake of the revenge that I’m seeking.

He was silent the whole time, starring at me like he was memorizing every inch of my face.

"Let’s go," he suddenly said, releasing me from his embrace.

"Where?" I said.

"Out here."

"Why? What’s wrong?" I looked around and saw that most of the other vampires were looking at us.

"It’s already dangerous here," he said in a low voice that gave me confusion. Dangerous? Seriously? I thought he wanted to victimize me and this is the perfect place to do that. Maybe he has other plans. But I don’t care whatever his plans are; I still need to stay in this place. I still have not what I need in this place and this might be my only chance to get inside this place.

"But I…"

He cut me off. "No more buts Celinea," he said authoritatively, grabbing my wrist and dragging me to the door. Two good-looking vampires blocked our way, one was class C-and the other was class-B.

"Would you mind sharing her with us?" said the class-B vampire. He was wearing a black to his leather jacket, which was zipped up to his neck, and a tattered faded jean.

I glanced at Jullius and wondered why he looked pissed off. Maybe he does not want to share his meal, which apparently was me, with anyone.

"No! Now get out of the way," he said, anger was obvious in his tone.

"Oh come on!" said the class-C vampire, who looked like an apprentice of the class-B, with his fitted navy blue t-shirt and bleached jeans. "You know the laws of the Black Hole; it clearly says that if a vampire brings a human inside the Black Hole they all the other vampires will automatically have the right to lay a finger to the said human," added by the class-C. The other vampire nodded in agreement.

And in one millisecond the two of them were already surrounding us, ready to attack. The other vampires in the room seemed to not have any interest with what was happening.

Jullius pulled me by his side. "Don’t you dare touch her," he warned.

"You brought her here but you do not want to share her with us! You should have consumed her outside the Black Hole in the first place. But now that she’s in here and we are too lazy to hunt so whether you like it or not, we will take her!" the class-B stated.

"No way! You will have to go through me first," Jullius bellowed.

"Then be it," the two vampires shouted in unison.

The two vampires growled and attacked us.

Jullius and the class-C vampire rolled over the floor, battling with each other. But with Jullius being a higher class of vampire, he was able to pin the class-C to the floor and killed him with a snap on the neck. The class-C did not turn into ashes though because only fire and silver metal could do that.

My attacker was so fast that he caught my arms easily. And I can’t move my arms anymore so I used my free leg to kick him right in his crotch and freed myself.

He shouted with anger. The next thing I knew was that I was being levitated from the ground, an ability of a class-B vampire that class-C do not have. He then sent me flying across the room. I landed on top of a table with loud shattering noises of breaking glasses.

"Celinea!" I heard Jullius shout my name.

I tried to get up and felt tiny aching on my arms; I looked at it and saw that I got some small wounds due to the broken glasses. Small drops of blood started to drip off from my wounds. The smell of my "intoxicating blood", as vampires call it, diffused in the room and brought reaction to all vampires, including Jullius. They all stopped from what they are doing and stood from their seats, ready to attack. Now they are all walking towards me like they had been blood thirst for a decade and this is the first time that they ever saw food again. Their yellow and orange eyes were flashing and their mouths were opened wide, showing their sharp fangs.

These vampires were only class-C and class-B so I could easily destroy them if they are not as many as these. There were about hundreds of vampires to attack me all at the same time. How stupid of me of not being able to depict that this situation might arise once I get in here. All I could do now is to trust my five kataras. How I wished that I had brought my katana.

I took a quick glance at the main door, blocked by dozens of vampires. I was in a basement of vampires so there were no windows either. Guess I have nowhere to run so I pulled two kataras behind my boots, ready to fight. The Katara and The Katana are the two signature weapons of the Crimson Rose Assassin. And after this, the whole vampire community would already know the real identity of the Crimson Rose Assassin.

Two vampires jumped on me; one of them was the class-B in black leather jacket. I stabbed them on their chest in one swift move and they crumbled into ashes. I grinned evilly at them. "If I will die in this place then be it but I will assure you that I would kill as many of these filthy creatures as I could until my last breath."

This time I advanced into them, slashing and stabbing whoever was caught by the blade of my weapon. Their ashes scattered under my feet like silver dust. Vampires fell one by one in front of me and soon, mounts of silver dust accumulated the carpeted floor.

I searched for Jullius and saw at the farthest corner of the room. He was gripping his head like he was having a massive migraine. He seemed to be fighting the urge of something; something which I could not tell, but maybe it was the smell of my blood that he was fighting with. The thought distracted me for a moment and unfortunately, that moment was grabbed by three vampires who launched their selves on me and pinned me on the floor. Their full weights were on me so I could not move even an inch of my body.

"Darn! Why do I have to be this stupid today; if I had not looked for Jullius I would not have lose my concentration."

One of vampires holding me growled with a grin and bent his head to reach my neck.

I struggled but I was of no use.
