18) FORGOTTEN
I walked along a rivers shore
Until I couldn’t walk anymore.
I looked in the water,
But could not see
Any reflection, not even of me.
I asked a bystander,
If he knew
Where I could see through,
To the under there.
He said he knew nothing,
He must have forgotten,
Right here in this very spot,
All of the things
He was ever taught.
He looked so confused,
So utterly used.
He mumbled some things I didn’t understand.
He rushed me away.
He couldn’t explain,
But all he would say was,
“This place will cause you ,
Nothing but pain.
One day
You’ll try to remember,
But only in vain.”
He didn’t look stable,
He didn’t look sane.
I walked away hoping to never see him again.
In the murky water
That rushed by,
I saw some forgotten dreams,
Forgotten dates,
Forgotten times when someone was late.
I was looking for answers
Where none could be found.
Gray skies reflected in shadows on the water.
Foggy water rushing toward nothing,
Forgotten thoughts,
Moments, lost,
Untouched by an uncaring owner.
The River of Forgottens.
